How Getting Married Made Me An Activist

it amazes me how humans treat eachother...with so much hate, agression, pent up anger and disrespect...

how far weve some since the civil rights movement of the 50's and 60's...

how far weve come as a world community since WWII...

how far we have advanced our technologies and understanding of the world and universe that surrounds us...

and more importantly how far we still need to go...

so much has happened and people stil dont understand that we are all humans, living on the only planet we know of that can support life of our kind, and that we are all struggling daily with our own demons... and people hate a human being that they dont know or have any relation to just for loving someone of the opposite sex... you hate someone loving someone else? you think its weird? that homos arent "normal"?

you know whats weird to me?

-parents that would cast aside their own blood because of a viewpoint, or being gay
-parents that oppose having they kids "exposed" to homosexuality but are the first to prop they're little tykes in front of cable TV and Internet
-people that oppose abortion but are the first in line for war
-people that claim a supposedly peaceful religion but shout at the top of they're lungs about how much hate or contempt they have for others, or they claim a righteous war...
-people that are the first to pull out a bible and quote scripture but are the first to turn around and commit sin or forget the ten commandments and are the first in line to be "born again" or repent.
-people that claim a tolerant religion, an all loving and accepting religion but are the first to turn around and say that all other religions are wrong, any other way is wrong and everyone is going to burn in hell that doesnt follow a christian god.
-people that claim freedom and human rights but cast aside the places where theres no profit in helping fight the good fight (darfur as an example)
-people with a blood lust for war (when was the last time war did anyone any good?)

know what i think is not "normal"?

-people that put they're life on the line for a book that promises enternal salvation
-people that have a whole world of problems for themselves but are consumed in holding back others and making problems in other peoples lives
-people that claim they are doing "gods work" or that they "are speaking with god"

i could go on and on about whats weird and not "normal" or all the worlds problems and our own problems as a country...and we are stuck on marriage? marriage between 2 grown sentient and consenting adults that care about eachother.... thats weird, thats not normal... its like people saying they dont wish to see love happen. or is it that most are so depressed about they're own marriages that they dont want to see other people genuinley happy?

I understand completely. Even though I cannot marry my boyfriend. I really wish I could. The Morons or you know should have their tax-exempt status revoked. They are embroiled in a political situation, isn't that illegal? Anyway I hope that you get to stay married. you are an inspiration to us all. I may never be able to marry my man, I live Kansas the bible slapping belt of the mid-west.

I don't understand why people think it's okay for a minority's right to be taken away through a ballot measure by the majority. This is not how African Americans gained the right to vote, and it's not how interacial marriage became legal. Issues regarding the rights of suspect or quasi-suspect groups are subject to greater scrutiny by our courts, and rightfully so.

I am a "born-again" Christian. Now, before any instantly puts up the bigot sign, let me say that I am not threatened by gay marriage. I do not consider homosexuality an affront to my life or to God. I think God has everything pretty much in hand, and my opinion on this one way or the other will have no impact on how He deals with His creation. I have more of an issue with Christians who will rage over the threat of gay marriage while there are children in their own community who go hungry. I can't understand throwing millions of dollars at an ad campaign to decide this issue when there are millions of people in our country who have no health care, inadequate housing and and many other life traumas. When did the focus of Christianity become so narrow? God help us everyone.

Ah yes. ''Enraged bigots''. KTVU [Oakland/San Francisco] shot a film earlier this week [YOUTUBE] of Christians holding one of these ''pray-ins'' in the predominantly gay Castro District where they were set upon and assaulted by a posse of gay men,and driven from the corner they were temporarily occupyng. The violence and bigotry eminated solely from gays,similar to what we have already seen in Los Angeles[racism,assault,intimidation] Lansing,[anti-religious hate crimes that police are investigating] and Salt Lake City [ terrorism]. In an excellent article in the conservative PAJAMAS MEDIA,the author makes a ''plague on both your houses'', case,criticizing ''The Church'' for its condescending attitude,and gays for acting like cowardly thugs.[Observe carefully that in the supercharged politically correct atmosphere of the gay movement,not a single protest has been lodged in areas that carried even greater votes for Prop 8,than white conservative regions,namely,Watts,Compton,Pico Rivera,East LA,South San Diego,Richmond,West Oakland,and the south valley interior,dominated by blacks and latinos]. Thus gays seek out ''soft targets'',knowing that riling blacks in Watts could very well become another Crown Heights, rather than the docility they have thus far garnered from their Mormon victims. Obviously,this is the backhand of the Ist Amendment,which allows free exercise of religion,even as it creates ''separation''[as interpreted by the courts], between it and government.

Personally, I would rather teach my child that loving, commited couples can marry than try to explain how some couples have more rights than others.
