Talking about the BlackBerry and energy saving

At least we do not need to be concerned about the energy being used by President Obama.

It consumes a mere 12,5 cents per year,

But here is the kicker, a typical user will waste $1,65, using their charger as a miniature heater while waiting for its device to return for the next charge.

Individually we may not see this as a problem, but it is a big issue in totality. We are pouring billions of $'s into the air on chargers playing heater ...

Please join us to to understand this issue, and put an end to this silly waste: http://open4energy.com/forum/hc/power/blackberry_charging

Obama should keep the Blackberry, how else is he going to successfully sling crack.

I agree with Mr. Alter that Obama should keep his blackberry, but for a different reason:

I think that the most piercing insight that Barack Obama brought to the presidential campaign, a message that carried him through both the primaries and general election, was his dedication to the idea of "change." I can't help but believe that Obama embraced not only the idea that we as a nation must change, but that we all must embrace the idea of change itself.

If you think about all of the biggest problems that face our nation today, you will find that at their root is a resistance to change. Why is our nation facing an impending energy crisis? Because for the past 25 years, we've allowed the interests of Big Energy to dictate our policy, and they have remained obstinately wed to 20th century energy sources. Instead of spending their time and money on developing the future of energy science, they've used it to influence government not to invest in fostering the alternative technologies that will eventually make fossil fuels obsolete. Why is our car industry failing before our eyes? Because they have fought emissions standards instead of challenging themselves to get ahead of them, and engineer cars that will sell in the 21st century. Why is our economy failing? Because the rest of our nations commerce has followed suit, and focused more on creating a virtual economy in which we play with the money created from existing industries instead of maintaining our dedication to innovating real, tangible industries that will create real, lasting wealth for our nation.

If our country can take one lesson from the last 30 years, it's that there's no such thing as standing still in history -- you're either moving forward or falling behind. No matter what the issue is, the answer must always be forward-thinking. It might often seem easier to stick with what works, but it will always be worth it spend or endure a little more now to prepare for the future. That's where Obama's blackberry fits in: it might seem easier now to make him ditch it, but the blackberry, or rather, the technology it represents, isn't going anywhere. Taking his blackberry away might solve the problem for the present, but it does so only by resisting change. If Obama's campaign has taught us anything, it's that every American must welcome back the transformative spirit of change.

Hopefully I'm not talking about something that isn't possible, but how about some sort of separate "internet" system for his desktop. As long as his desktop doesn't connect to the main internet system, it should probably be alright. At any rate, he should have at least a laptop that isn't plugged to the internet on his desk. Sure beats hand writing out the outline for tomorrow's meetings. As for the Blackberry, that is indeed a big risk. But I'm sure there's some way for him to stay plugged in so that he can read the news himself at times without it always being fed to him everyday.

"The Borgen Project has some good info on the cost of addressing global poverty.
$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.
$540 billion: Annual U.S. Defense Budget."

I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Alter; times have changed. If we could land a man on the moon in 1969, we must certainly have the technology in 2008 that will allow the president to use email and his Blackberry, and to keep his communications secure. I hope Obama will insist on this, in the spirit of staying tuned into the world, and I hope his advisers will support him all the way.

Alter does not explain how and how long it would take for the government to ''figure it out''. Alter can only be forgiven for his slavish partisanship and his devotion to the Expected One. Not for his desire that official communications be evaporated simply because they are on a BLACKBERRY while awaiting some means of collecting these communications. They can well become the ''Nixon Tapes'' of the new WH technology and as such there must be a solid means to track and record all e-mails and communications sent or recieved on the device BEFORE Inauguration Day. Not some Alterian and hazy ''someway'',''somehow'' nonsense. As to the ''harm''being ''minimal'',Alter will be reminded that when news was leaked on the capability of US intelligence agencies to track al Qaeda cyber communications which included the use of the then-rudimentary BLACKBERRY,the jihadists shut the deal down, massively damaging the means to fight this organization.

If Bush stayed in power, what wealth would even be available to keep or share?

  • Posted By: MrDuffy @ 11/19/2008 11:35:19 AM

Barry better keep it. He's going to need the number of a good lawyer after his fraud is uncovered.

  • Posted By: marley07 @ 11/19/2008 11:11:54 AM

Is Obama going to hand these out for free like everything else? If a family has more than one, is he going to take them from some and give them to others who don't have them?

Very interesting viewpoint. If the email can't be salvaged your point that the old friends should still have access is an excellent one. Isolation isn't good for anybody, not even Presidents!

Anytime you log onto a network you can be hacked in real-time, so it does not matter if you store it on a server. The server can be hacked too. It is not like info goes to the server and then it cannot be hacked, although it would be more difficult. Keep getting hacked millerm84 its no big deal.

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 11/19/2008 9:10:34 AM

Millerm84 you have been hacked and you do not even no it. Oh well big deal just let it happen.
Let's just keep getting hacked until all of our secrets and schedules are known to our enemies.Great Plan millerm we have nothing to worry about.
OBAMA your BLACKBERRY has already been hacked by the CHINESE AND/OR RUSSIANS.
THERE IS A CYBER WAR THAT HAS BEEN LAUNCHED AGAINST AMERICA. AND THE CHINESE AND RUSSIANS ARE KICKING OUR A**ES. OBAMA NEEDS TO APPOINT COLIN POWELL TO ASSEMBLE A NEW ARMY. A CYBER ARMY TO FIGHT THE NEW WAR OF THE FUTURE. OUR ARMY IS VERY WEAK AND THE ENEMY IS USING OVERWHELMING FORCE AGAINST US. WE NEED TO ASSEMBLE A NEW CYBER ARMY BEFOR AL QUEDA CATCHES ON. IMAGINE LAUNCHING ATTACKS AGAINST AN ENEMY BY TAKING CONTROL OF THEIR OWN WEAPONS VIA COMPUTER. OBAMA NEEDS TO APPOINT RICHARDSON TO BE SECRETARY OF STATE. HE IS A CALM COOL NEGOTIATER. NON POLARIZING. HE SPEAKS SPANISH AND CAN REALLY IMPROVE OUR RELATIONSHIPS ON THIS SIDE OF THE HEMISPHERE. HE CAN BRING PEACE TO THE MIDDLE EAST. WOMEN ARE NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY IN THE MIDDLE EAST. THE LAST TWO SECRETARY OF STATES HAVE BEEN WOMEN. ENOUGH WE NEED A CHANGE. I REALLY LIKE WARREN CHRISTOPHER WE NEED SOMEONE LIKE THAT. RICHARDSON IS THE MAN.

Look the GPS issue is very easy to solve; simply have his service provider program him a phone that doesn't use GPS! And it is very easy, hackers all over Europe are using IPhones on different networks because of hardware, and software hacks, so I'm sure this should be a walk in the park for the people who design and sell the phones to pull off. As far as securing email; it doesn't matter. There is no such thing as a secure electronic communication, people will always find a way around it. For the sake of public record Blackberrys and other PDA phones use the IMAP protocol which stores the emails on the server not on the phone, so when the Archives needs the email just access his mailbox on the server and there you go all the email you could hope for. So yeah bogus security concerns show that the Secret Service is not keeping up with the electronic times.

I think it's insane that Obama is only the first president who will have a desktop computer in the oval office. Granted I'm a college student who is never without a laptop, but a computer just seems so essential for everything. I guess the internet was still pretty new in '92, but by '96 you'd think Clinton would have had one. Bush would have been distracted by freecell so maybe it's a good thing he didn't have one...or maybe that would have solved everything. wink wink.

And about the Blackberry: until would-be-assassins figure out how to make their emails emit a poisonous gas, Obama should hang on to it. He could solve international crisis while on his way over to main street to create some clean energy jobs.

Excellent points. The security argument is utter nonsense. Just don't send sensitive matters over eamil. Duh!

the question is have you gotten this information to HIS people? or is the security fence already closed
