    I would rather see Richardson, simply because I think he should have been the veep and he supported Obama over his friendship and many debts to the Clintons. That conviction of purpose and willingness to support Obama should be rewarded.

    I'm a republican and didn't vote for Obama. Having said that, and despite my party affiliaion, I confess a wee bit of excitement over Obama's call to change--and what his historic Presidency represents.

    Allowing a Clinton back into the White House--for any position--would damage Obama's Presidency and put into question his desire for change in Washington.

    The argument for Colin Powell as evidence for Hillary being a "no harm" candidate for Secretary of State is moot. Colin Powell is NOT Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama isn't Bush. This isn't about whether or not Obama can control Hillary...it's about the perception of allowing one of the most two-faced, shameless bureaucrats into what was supposed to be a new era of bipartisanship and productivity.

    Obama doesn't need this. He will have a difficult enough time rallying the country and his new cabinet around the awesome job ahead of him--ahead of us.

    The GOP will pick Obama to pieces over a Clinton appointment. Hard-liners will scream Quid Pro Quo, and even moderates such as myself will start to wonder. It's a divisive appointment that will do nothing for the country.

    Unlike Powell, Clinton doesn't need to be shunned by the new administration for failing to fall in step...she will do her damage before she even warms her new seat.

    It's so good to see Democrats are commenting on what our President is going to do next without being distracted by Republican distortions. We are on the right track and in 2010 we will increse our numbers in both houses again. in 2012 we will reelect President Obama to another term and further increase our numbers in Congress. Does this spell doom to the Republicans? It doesn't have to. They need to purge their ranks of those who have bought their party down. conservative Talk Radio and Fox News has slowly dwindled the ranks of the GOP until radicals are all they're left with. Heed the words of Chuck Hagel before it is too late.

    Repub, the Chinese have stolen unbelievable amounts of software from the United States and both the McCain camp and the Obama camp were hacked during their campaigns. I am glad you are starting to understand. I can give you more examples but I do not want to scare you I just want you to know that we are behind and do not have enough people in our CYBER ARMY. This issue needs to be spread across America before another 9/11 happens. We need to deal with reality and use overwhelming force.

      I don't disagree that the threat is out there. It wasn't that long age that Veteran's benefit files were hacked.. I just think it unrealistic to think we're not doing the same thing or that you are concerned but our CIA or FBI isn't. Maybe we're better at it. How would you or I know?

    Agree or not, it's good to see Democrats discussing real issues again. With the republicans no longer in the rear view mirror and soon to go several laps down. we can get on with what's important for the country. whether Hillary or Bill, i'm good with it. I trust President Obama to make the correct decision and I'll support that. Sorry, i couldn't resist the NASCAR analogy.

    Obama is about to make his first mistake, appointing Hillary to be Secretary of State. Hillary is more than capable but there are too many intangibles she brings to the table:
    1)Bill Clinton- I can picture the headlines now, Bill caught in a Hotel room with some exotic women while Hillary is in Middle East Peace conference.
    2)Clintons are too polarinzing- The Clintons will be the target of Conservative comeback. They have nothing else to attack do not give them something to feed on.

    Obama you are President now and represent America in the World. You have to appoint someone who is not so polarizing and political. Someone who you can mold in your image someone who is not so polarizing with their own agenda. Hillary brings too much baggage and has her mind set. We need a change the Clintons time has passed. Hillary has been a good Senator and could better serve America with Health Care and Education. The press will be all over Bill and we do not want anymore embarassements.
    GIVE THE JOB TO BILL RICHARDSON. He is perfect for the job. He speaks Spanish, he is a MALE and will listen to you. Barak do not wait. Hillary is already playing politics by leaking stories and forcing you to give her the job.

      eddiewhere - I couldn't agree more. Once again, Hilary's baggage - Bill - is the biggest reason to keep her out of high profile positions. Even though he is agreeing to be more transparent in his business affairs, he had not received any treatment for his sex addiction, and because he hasn't, he is still a liability to both his wife's political career and the country should she become an international figure. Even if he manages to behave, the potential for blackmail is high - just the suggestion of misbehavior even if totally false will be enough to cause severe embarrassment.

      I don't agree that having a male in the role of Sec. of State is necessary for dealing with the Middle East - to the contrary - while they may mistreat their own women, that very mentality does not allow them to mistreat one of our woman - such behavior is the highest of insults and the fear of reprisal is therefore quite high. An female Sec. of State is actually an American advantage.

      Some have questioned if H. Clinton would give up her independence and be a spokeswoman for President Obama and the American people. I believe she would - loyalty is one of her staunchest qualities - after all, her loyalty to her husband has been exemplary, to the detriment of her own career, and her loyalty the to the democratic party as a whole is also above reproach. I believe she would transfer that loyalty to Obama.

      But your final point, about Richardson as Sec. of State, is the most important - without a doubt, he is the most qualified, has the most experience, and already has diplomatic training. The fact that he is bilingual is undoubtably a plus.

      H. Clinton's passion has always been better health care - if she truly wants to leave her potential for leadership in the senate and take a cabinet position, DHHS is a better use of her talents and her passion.

    THis side of the hemisphere has many problems, first Chavez and the leader in BOlivia. Colombia and all it's problems. Richardson would negotiate a proper Free Trade Agreements and has a better understanding of Latin American countries. It is time a Spanish person was refelected is reflected in the administration. All other minorites are. Alberto Gonzalez was a disgrace. Give Richardson a chance he is a great negotiater and is perfect for the job.

    hummmmmm. keeping hillary close would commit her to the team and provide some inroads into foreign governments. but barack needs to set the rules straight at the outset about bill (i.e., stop any inappropriate funding) and make hillary control him. that's asking alot of the clintons. she wise to hesitate.

    I recommended Bill Richardson not Warren Christopher. I mentioned I like Warren Christopher and we need someone like him. Hillary has the qualities you mention but she brings to much baggage. Do you know both the McCain camp and the Obama camp were hacked during the election. This cyber war has already been launched and like many Repubssuck, you have no idea.

      You couldn't know a thing about our role in Cyber Space. either. What makes you think the USA is deficient in that department? the fact that there are hackers is unconvincing. My guess is we're up to speed in that department. and hacking away as we speak. unless you have proof otherwise, why the contention that we're somehow the victim here! How about an example of where we're lacking in the area of Security as it pertains to Cyber Space.

      wheter Hillary or Bill both would shine in comparison the the dreadful job Rice has done.

      Well Warren Christopher is a MALE. He's a 83 year old MALE. Hillary would be a fantastic Secretary of State. She brings intellegence , temperment , experience and energy to the table. Bill Richardson would be an equally great choice.

      Colin powell sould head a Cyber Army? wouldn't Bill Gates or Steve Jobs be a better choice? What information do you have that we're so weak in the Cyber Space department/? Are you an insider or just jerking us around? be careful how you answer, There may be a pop quiz coming your way.

      Obama is NOT the president. George W. Bush is the President of the United States. Regarding Bill Richardson's ability to speak Spanish: The United States Government conducts its business in English. Therefore, being able to speak Spanish is irrelevant to being qualified to be Secretary of State.

      Obama is NOT president now. George W. Bush is currently the President of the United States. And oh by the way, speaking Spanish should not matter in regards to the being qualified for the job of Secretary of State. You see, our government conducts business in English..

    I have thought that Hillary Clinton would make a superb Secretary of State ever since she did not get the Presidential nomination. She is an intelligent, thoughtful person with a tremendous amount of experience in world affairs from her time as First Lady and her senatorial stint. Obama would do well to select her for this important post. She would have been (and, I hope, still will be) a fantastic President of the United States. I have no doubt that she would bring the same honor to the office of Secretary of State.

    I do not see Hillary working for anyone but Hillary. Many women in power are that way as I am one, also. I could not work for the Obama's in any fashion. I feel Hillary would be more of a hinderance than a positive. I also feel her chances for 2012 would be much greater if she remained a Senator and kept her own counsel for the next 4 years.
