Cyber War is what the Defense Department needs to concentrate on the Chinese and Russians are have a hay day. Colin Powell should be appointed to deal with this problem. We need overwhelming force in this Cyber War and are army is very weak in this field.

To all who are offended by the comments between 40YearR and I which Pocolodi seems to be so very bothered with, I apologize. An apology also from 40YearR. We enjoy blogging together and at times we get carried away and it shows. Again, I apologize.

Hilary would be better at Health and Human Services. And we don't need Bill running around loose - he still needs a keeper.

My bet, and hope, is that Hillary will withdraw her name because Bill won't want to disclose his financial 'dealings', although they'll come up with a different excuse which will be fine with me.

Bill is waaaaay too compulsive to keep from trying to take center stage, among other compulsions...

Can't we just be done with the Clinton's once and for all? And why would Hillary want to leave the safe confines of her NY Senate seat? Those poor, hapless, New Yorker's will just keep electing her, over and over again, just like Kennedy in Mass. and that big doofus Rep. John Murtha in PA.

    • Posted By: Pocolodi @ 11/18/2008 9:43:17 PM

The Clintons are still very powerful, and they intend to stay that way. Obama will have his hands full for the next four years, to say the least.

Electing Hillary to State would be a great way of trying to make peace with and reach out to her massive base of supporters, and I think she could be an asset to the position. I'm on board for it.

i knew that Obama ( lap dog) would hire a Clinton ... LOL !!! thats cool if it helps him meet his purpose.. Anyway !!! i just want to see how he gov.. the country ( that's what is important).

i thought that H.C. would make a good S.Judge/ but she is looking for the job of Sec. of State for her own reasons... i think Kerry would make a good Sec. Of State ( but if we need a Clinton so be it)...... we just have to have a Clinton in the new Administration i guess.... good old "Change we can beleive in" ... Heck !! i'll trust it agian a Clinton i'll see where this puts the Country. i'm not a Huge Clinton Fan so this pick is whatever to me, i think we should pick a Repblican but hell who am i ( just a voter that can vote in four yrs agianst Hope & Change)..... Sec. of State ???? Why ??? what a joke ! Obama ran agianst H.C. & her policy now he wants to make her Sec. of State? LAP DOG !!!!

I Actually agree with this! Why you may ask .. (incase you havent notice i dont agree with much) but because in american history this is so true if she doesnt obay obama wishes she'll be looked up in her lil room and later canned if he gets re-elected( well see about that) but none the less powell Could do great thing if obama lets him but i don't think he has the courage to do it one more time and take the beatting he did. Then there the last side hey you never know hillary might be good at this and do something right for once in her families history of failer. (don't worry yes i know there was some good that came out of the cliton administration!)

I agree there are similarities between Powell's role as Sec of State and Clinton's hypothetical role, but the comparison breaks down because of the differences between their bosses. Bush was a boy among men. Powell was railroaded by Cheney and Rumsfeld, because Bush was weak. Obama, on the other hand, is not so insecure and incompetent as to allow any of his cabinet to usurp his authority by force of personality. I think Hillary would be a great Sec of State in an Obama administration because Obama is in command. If say, Kucinich or Dodd were elected (fat chance, I know), Hillary would be more than they could handle. Sooner or later she would be at odds with other members of the cabinet while the president stood idly by and awaited the outcome. Obama won't be a spectator during cabinet meetings. Unlike Bush, he will be the commander in more than name only.

Hillary doesn't have much power in the senate now that ted kennedy has returned so this job may inteest her, but she will have even less as sec of state if this is true. It looks like a case of "keep your feriends close ad yiur enemies/rivals even closer" In the senate Obama has no real control over her, but as sec. of state. . well said in this article.

It would be a feeding frenzy for the right. They would like nothing more than to start dishing on the Clintons again. Yet, could she do a much worse job than Condi Rice?

18 million people would disagree with your premise.

  • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 11/18/2008 5:18:14 PM

The two-faced Republicans that wanted us to think Hillary should have been chosen for Vice President now want us to believe she wouldn't make a good Secretary of State. Why would anyone care what they had to say on the subject?

  • Posted By: markci @ 11/18/2008 5:08:31 PM

Close ties to lobbyists? What the hell is that even supposed to mean? If you work in Washington then you have a "tie" to lobbyists of some sort.

The actual fact is that Obama's transition team has set the strictest rules ever with respect to lobbyists having position in the administration.

  • Posted By: markci @ 11/18/2008 5:06:27 PM

I think you misapprehend the nature of the risk. The risk is not that Clinton will hijack foreign policy. The risk is Bill's globetrotting activities over the past eight years, the potential distractions that they might cause and ammunition given to Obama's enemies. There are plenty of foreign policy experts in DC. and Hillary isn't even one of the foremost. What exactly does she bring to the table that would outweigh the risk and distraction?

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/17/campbell.brown.lobbyists/index.html?iref=topnews#cnnSTCText

(CNN) -- I want you to hear something President-elect Barack Obama said just about a year ago:

"I am running to tell the lobbyists in Washington that their days of setting the agenda are over. They have not funded my campaign. They won't work in my White House."

Just this weekend The New York times published a list of names -- a rather long list of names of people -- who are working on Obama's transition team or who have accepted jobs in his White House who are either former lobbyists or who have close ties to lobbyists.

The Times reports that some of those people were lobbying as recently as this year.
