Instead of patrolling in warships, US or other navies should take a page from World War II and use merchant raiders. These are wolves in sheep's clothing. Small, fast, armed naval vessels with military crews masquerading as ordinary merchant ships. When pirates come in to attack, thinking it is a lonely mechant ship, KAPOW! or noises to that effect.

Yo Ho Ho for the Pirates and the Bailout Bums

    (Deadman's Chest)

The year 2008 has been one big treasure hunt
For Somali Pirates and Bailout Bums
Bankers and tankers and the devil done for the rest
Yo ho ho for the Pirates and the Bailout Bums.

Wall Street bankers plundering Paulsens's TARP

Somali pirates cruising in Donzis and living high on the hog

    An AK47, a cutless and a GPS

A subprime CDO, a SIV and a CDS

    Ransom and handouts

Yo Ho Ho for the Pirates and the Bailout Bums

Wall Street's creed is a sea of greed

The pirates creed is take whatever you need

Bankers and pirates are one and alike
    Take what you want and screw who you like;
Yo ho ho for the Pirates and the Bailout Bums

Is it better to be done by a banker or a scurvey ridden scrum?

Better yet, a Somalian banker pushing Wall Street dung!
Lets pump AIG and send Detroit the crumbs!

Lets steal some crude from those Arabian skunks!
Yo ho ho for the Pirates and the Bailout Bums!

Finally, a real action against the dark forces. Congratulations the Idian Navy. You prove that all those so-called great western powers don't really have any ball

It's ironic that Thai ships are being seized by pirates. Thai pirates slaughtered refugees and robbed refugee boats for years without much counter-force. Real pirates are not like Johny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean fantasy at all.
Now that global commerce is in jeorpady, the material loss caused by pirates ( not to mention the loss of lives) ultimately would cause goods and services including food on the table and groceries more expensive. It's no longer a problem that the world can just look away anymore, because we will all have to pay

The simplest solution would be to bribe the local warlords to take over the ports and establish order, then to declare the warlords are part of Al Qaeda and invade Somalia. This more or less worked for the yanks in Afghanistan and Iraq, surely third time is the charm.

Actually, the problem is that the Islamic government that took power in 2006 was successful at ending piracy that year. Unfortunately, fear that these "Extremists" might have ties to Al-Qaeda resulted in the US backing an Etheopian invasion that ousted that government and has resulted in the anarchy that has allowed piracy to resurge.

sir francis drake 'pirated" many spanish vessels and his queen received her share of the booty. these modern day pirates are the same...without the tacit approval of the islamic warlords they would not be doing this. true pirates can not be successful without political backing....they have to land somewhere

arm the ships. The pirates can't start a fire fight, it would only destroy the prize that they seek. They can't win an all out sea battle, they are armed with AK-47s and RPG's, which are no match even for a CIWS

spaddy: No n00b. The Indian Navy sunk a pirate vessel. Obviously you have sufficiently low comprehension skills to join the Somali pirates.
