To all the people out there that love meat and can't stand vegetarians. You don't have to eat only your meat but you can have theirs as well, and while your at it eat them too. Vegetarians, the other white meat.

  • Posted By: Haywood Jablomee @ 11/20/2008 9:41:55 PM

Vegetarians suck. "OOOOOOH look at me, I don't want anything to die so I can eat" F-you. Everything in nature eventially dies and gets eaten by something else- Including us human folk. Most of the animal protien that is eaten in america is from critters that would not ever have existed at all but for their utility as tasty nourishment for human beings. And as far as the health thing is concerned, if you want to be healthy do three things. Have parents with good genes, don't smoke and wear seatbelts. Everything else is a crapshoot. Now go have a steak.

you should be put into a living tomb for all your days, like animals on factory farms who do not have the space to turn around, or should get very, very sick. then you would know what you're laughing at.

    • Posted By: asmiththematrix @ 11/20/2008 10:11:20 PM

You should inform yourself before making a fool out of yourself. Meat is not only bad for your health but also for the planet. By the way, you're rude.

      HA, nice.

  • Posted By: RedBee @ 11/20/2008 11:49:27 PM

I highly doubt you eat more of a variety of foods than an omnivore but foreclosing a bunch of different options.
But you are right, in God's perfect world, we didn't eat animals.
I have compassion and mercy on animals, but I do eat some of them too. Maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I'm not ready to give up my meat. Believe me, I've tried the best faux-meat options out there... they don't taste like meat. Not only that, I don't like processed foods. I don't want to get cancer from crappy Tofurkey when I can have the real deal in moderation and as long as I am conscious about how the animal was treated in life and handled in death, I'll probably stay just as healthy as you.

OH, and I highly recommend the movie EARTHLINGS, you can type it in google, under the video section and watch it there.

    It could change your life.

I chose to become a vegetarian less than 6 months ago. I made my decision not only based upon the numerous health and environmental benefits, but mainly because from a moral standpoint I do not beleive that animals are ours to consume. It is apparent that like us, animals feel pain and suffering, so for us to kill hundreds of thousands of them DAILY is unethical. Vegetarianism wouldn't nearly as prevalent if slaughter houses used more humane ways of killing, but they don't, animals are treated horribly, and die horrible deaths.

Some of the greatest minds in history took this ideology upon themselves, such as ALBERT EINSTEIN, LEONARDO DAVINCI, PYTHAGORAS, GHANDI, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, THOMAS EDISON, MARK TWAIN, TOLSTOY, ISAAC NEWTON, CHARLES DARWIN and hundreds of others. I know this is a fallacy from authority, but the evidence is apparent. Now how can you look at all these names, all these brilliant minds, and not think about why they chose to adopt this alternative diet. It is a question of morality, and I beleive that we should treat animals with respect.

"What is it that should trace the insuperable line? ...The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?"
    -Jeremy Bentham

"For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love."
    Pythagoras, mathematician

Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. -Albert Einstein

"To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being."
    Mahatma Gandhi, statesman and philosopher

"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."
    Thomas Edison, inventor

LAND: Of all agricultural land in the U.S., 87 percent is used to raise animals for food-that's 45 percent of the total land mass in the U.S.

WATER: More than half of all the water consumed in the U.S. for all purposes is used to raise animals for food. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce a pound of meat, but only 25 gallons to produce a pound of wheat. A totally vegetarian diet requires 300 gallons of water per day, while a meat-eating diet requires more than 4,000 gallons of water per day.

POLLUTION: Raising animals for food causes more water pollution in the U.S. than any other industry because animals raised for food produce 130 times the excrement of the entire human population-

I am not trying to be stuck up or trying to shove this in your faces, but to all of you who do take part in the consumption of meat, take a moment to think about what you are doing, and for what reasons.

    "because it taste good..."

    • Posted By: tallboy610 @ 11/20/2008 11:45:31 PM

I suppose the only you don't have in common with your examples is that you are still among the living.

  • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 9:23:41 PM

Human beings are supposed to eat meat and turkey isn't even a real meat. Don't be difficult or rude to your hosts, one slice won't kill you. Just eat it, you'll like it. I love how we have such abundance in America that people will actually refuse good food, its almost as baffling as anorexia...maybe vegetarianism should be considered an eating/psychological disorder too.

    • Posted By: nln548 @ 11/20/2008 9:26:20 PM

who says humans are supposed to eat meat?

      • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 9:30:03 PM

        History and nature.

        • Posted By: nln548 @ 11/20/2008 9:38:46 PM

History also had blacks as slaves, women as subservient to men, and homosexuals as mentally ill, but that all changed, didn't it??? The whole point is that one slice "won't kill you," but the turkey had to die for those slices, and vegetarians don't want to support that. One abortion probably won't kill a person, either, but the baby dies. Same concept.

          • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 9:47:53 PM

Anything and everything that you eat had to "die" before your consume it. Further there is a difference between the rights of animals and the rights of human beings. AND if animal treatment concerns you learn more about where your meat is coming from and don't support cruel institutions... AND frankly as an African American I'm rather insulted that you would compare vegetarian/veganism to slavery...get a clue man.

            • Posted By: lupe1111 @ 11/20/2008 11:44:40 PM

The comparison is sound as far as animals are capable of pain and terror like humans are. That's the basis of the comparison, people who put it forward are not trying to blunt appreciation for complex humanity, they are trying to justly recognize animal suffering and put valid commonalities into relief. You don't have to jettison the comparison, just refine it. I'm a woman (women Today are sex slaves and I am reminded every day that some see me as an object, so please don't say comparing me to you is moot as well), and there is a book called Neither Man Nor Beast: Feminism and the Defense of Animals. It makes comparisons between what is done to both groups and how both groups experience what is done to them. It is a very sound book, and I do not resent the comparison, it resounds with me; and I am someone quite dedicated to the higher potentialities of humankind that nonhuman animals do not share. (In other words, because I see some basic kinship with animals, it doesn't mean I would turn my young out when they can walk and ask for food, etc.)

            • Posted By: DeerWhisperer @ 11/20/2008 10:46:40 PM

YOU get a clue. If you've never made friends with someone who is supposed to be only meat or "sport" you don't know what you're talking about

            • Posted By: nln548 @ 11/20/2008 9:53:36 PM

I'm not a man, man. And sorry, but I think I win. You make no sense.

              • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 10:11:17 PM

There are no winners when no on eats meat???ha. Reverse what I said earlier ??? insulted that you would compare eating meat with slavery and vegetarianism with abolitionism???or is that too much of an extrapolation for you? Finally, ???man??? is often used in contemporary dialect to refer to men and women, often but not always in a familiar. So once again, get a clue, man. You are not a better person because you choose not to eat meat and actually if there were a winner it would be me as you only addressed only one of my response, ???History.??? I assume that is because you concede that humans eat meat as part of the natural order of the world.

                • Posted By: nln548 @ 11/20/2008 10:20:11 PM

I didn't address your second response because it didn't make complete sense to me, but I think asmiththematrix did a pretty good job. Just what I was thinking but couldn't articulate.

            • Posted By: asmiththematrix @ 11/20/2008 10:04:19 PM

During slavery white people also thought black people's suffering did not matter. It's all about wanting to dominate and abuse another living being because you can, because you have the power to. And before you come with your " what-do you-about-being-black" stuff, I am black.

        • Posted By: asmiththematrix @ 11/20/2008 9:59:22 PM

Don't be insane! Human body is not made to digest meat! Inform yourself!

          • Posted By: Alexclarkus @ 11/20/2008 11:16:23 PM

Then what are these sharp pointy teeth for?

          • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 10:30:49 PM

WHAT?? thats just about the dumbest and one of the funniest things I've ever heard...not made to digest meat??..well...I'm doing it right now so i guess it sort of was. Inform yourself...lol, what a cop out, oh man.

    • Posted By: LMichelle @ 11/20/2008 10:00:00 PM

Well, and also, one slice may not kill us, but it can make us extremely uncomfortable. After not eating meat for a year or so, i get pretty sick when I do. My system just can't digest the meat the right way.

  • Posted By: Sarah-H @ 11/20/2008 11:42:34 PM

Even God's perfect world was "vegetarain". We=vegetarains= eat more varaity of yummy foods than those who eat corpses. Why killing masses of God's creatures to pass them through our bodies and bring about all kinds disease and an early death to ourselves? What's wrong with compassion and Mercy on animals?
We don't need animal corpses. We have all good alternatives now.

The this is same song I hear from every Vegan, they use the ???meat production ??? line to try to convince you that you shouldn???t eat meat. So why must I choose one extreme or the other, Veganism is just as extreme as eating ???meat production???. By nature, our bodies are meant to eat meat, just look at your teeth and tell me why you have premolars or can you name one vegi eating animal that has premolars?
There is moderation, I don???t need to buy meat that was produced by poorly treated animals, we have many other options.

    from time2evolve
"2) Meat eaters in this post have gotten mighty rude and defensive. After years of pondering, I???m certain though that this is merely because they didn't think of being vegetarian first. It can be very challenging and hurtful when some snooty vegetarian implies they are not as evolved as the vegetarian is, that they are stuck in a "herd state" going with the crowds and tradition out of comfort and can???t see how unnecessary killing multitudes of turkeys and other animals is. Well what can I say? It???s never too late to improve oneself."

Years of pondering? How many years is that? What exactly is it about you that makes you feel that you are more evolved than everyone else who eats both vegetables and meat, because your a vegetarian? And what exactly is it about this "herd state" crap that you're talking about?

I can see where you feel that being on your high horse gives you the (somewhat disillusioned) right to be condescending to others, but it is a high horse, and you need to step down. I appreciate people of all culinary preferences except snooty (insert preference here), only because, just like you, they become disgustingly condescending to others simply because their choice is DIFFERENT. It's this kind of crap that perpetuates hate and mitigates change, tolerance, and acceptance.

Thanksgiving is about giving thanks. I can see how being a vegetarian in non-vegetarian families can be difficult, but that's not Thanksgiving's problem, that's not tradition's problem, that's your family's problem and yours alone. These challenges are SOCIAL problems between members of families, and it is up to them to make a change.

But calling people who eat meat or even eat meat and vegetables being part of a "herd state," being "unevolved," or anything else your ego can come up with makes you no better than the people in this article making fun of their vegetarian family members. In fact, your worst.

2boys2girls, what are you talking about? you don't need cholesterol in your diet as your body makes all that is needed. I'm a nutrition student and that just isn't true. What is your source?

    • Posted By: 2boys2girls @ 11/20/2008 11:38:38 PM

To quote directly from my source americanheaheart.org
"Cholesterol comes from two sources: your body and food. Your liver and other cells in your body make about 75 percent of blood cholesterol. The other 25 percent comes from the foods you eat. "
This is just a small portion on good cholesterol and has items you can eat to obtain the "good" kind very interesting reading.

    Rparrish, that's good for you.
Its a choice you make for moral and health reasons and that's cool.
I like that you didn't push your choice on everyone else here. Very....evolved....of you.

Let's face it, people are going to be rude no matter what. If there is something about you that makes you different, it will be noticed by others. I have heard the comments from family, friends, and co-workers (not just at the holidays). I do sometimes get annoyed-esp. when people ask if I miss it , tell me I am missing out, or ask what I eat instead. Being veg is a choice people-I don't miss it-if I did, I'd still be eating it. And I do know what I'm missing out on. There's a reason I stopped eating it in the first place. As for what I eat-well just about everything else. It's pretty simple really. I don't know if the people asking these questions are curious or are trying to get me to change my mind.

she said God didn't say it. Well, at least TWO holy books say he did. (that would be Torah and Bible for all of you folks who are religiously impaired).

I was merely attacking her absurd assrtion obviously made without even the thought of backing up her statements. Think of it as an attack on her credibility. If she's making baseless claims about that, her whole post could be an assorted mass of baseless claims.

Can anyone tell me who actually wrote Genesis?? Was someone there taking dictation from God?

  • Posted By: rparrish_@msn.com @ 11/20/2008 11:30:13 PM

I have been a vegetarian for almost 1 yr after watching a video about the meat industry and I do not miss eating meat at all. Thanksgiving will not be hard for me because when I see that poor turkey on that table I will remember how much he suffered to be on the table. I sure don't want it I don't need to eat meat to survive. I feel and look a lot healthier since I stopped eating meat and dairy products . I lost weight the healthy way without pills and diets. cholesterol dropped. It's good to be vegan.

what ever get over it it is 2008 - no more salves idiot -

    • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 10:23:40 PM

Actually slavery is still an issue in some parts of the world. It is 2008 - there are still slaves idiot! ..lol But seriously this blog is not about slavery and I'm not the one that equated eating meat with owning slaves, I just pointed out what an absurd comparison it was.

      • Posted By: lupe1111 @ 11/20/2008 10:39:38 PM

well it's not so absurd. clarify on what points it is absurd and on what points it is sensible.

        • Posted By: bobby101 @ 11/20/2008 11:29:04 PM

Think about what you are saying... Slavery - an institution of degradation and deprivation of another human beings essential rights and all the other horrid things that go along with it. Eating meat - a life sustaining and normal healthy human activity...comparing the two "is not so absurd"???? wow.

  • Posted By: tallboy610 @ 11/20/2008 11:25:21 PM

What about the vegetables! Who will speak for them! I for one will swear off broccoli.

  • Posted By: RedBee @ 11/20/2008 11:24:59 PM

1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. Genesis 9:1-3.

You probably shouldn't talk religion, time2evolve, before making a quick google search to make sure you know what you're talking about. So I guess it actually WAS GOD who told us we could eat meat. Huh.

And as for karma. Good for you. That's not an element in Islam, Judaism or Christianity. It's NOT an element of every religion.

Now... the vegetarian diet can be healthier than an omnivore's diet. Of course, it's much easier to become anemic when you're a vegetarian. But I suppose you don't want to mention that. Or the fact that the people groups that live the longest in this world (see Sardinia, Okinawa) are not vegetarian. Moderation is key in life. I don't think you need to eat Turkey to celebrate thanksgiving, but I doubt your relatives are thankful that you're around to squawk and trumpet about how much more evolved you are at the Thanksgiving table. If I don't like the yams I don't eat them. I suggest you shut up and do the same regarding the turkey.
