Bargain hunters are headed online again this year. But will they really find cheaper prices?

I have to say I DO blame the individual for excess consumerism for a lot of this problem. But certainly not all of it.
Americans (and presumably a lot of other people as well) have been the focus of a triple play.
We have had many government forces that do not believe in a "sustainable" economy. So Americans are constantly pressured to "buy", and never pressured to save. The economy, according to gov't MUST GROW!! ALL THE TIME!! EVERY QUARTER!!! or else we're DOOMED!!
When, arguably, there has to come a point where we really do all have ALL the crap we actually need. Lamps, how often do you actually need to buy a new lamp? Maybe every 10 years or so..but otherwise..WHY? And if you, for whatever reason (my cat knocked mine over and busted it), actually NEED to buy a new lamp..go to the goodwill store. They're about $5 and they work just fine.
And then there's Madison Avenue. As if being bombarded on television, radio, in every magazine, in every newspaper, on billboards, and online to BUY BUY BUY BUY!!! wasn't annoying enough. Madison Avenue advertising execs have managed to pull an even more pervasive fast one on the American Public. Mind you, most of us have swallowed it whole, which argues an overall lack of attention.
We will all be much better off if we take this one fact to heart. What you see on TV is NOT the "middle class". It's just not. When I talk to my friends in my living room about birth control..we're NOT wearing Prada, nor are we coyly pulling random brochures about it out of Dolce and Gabanna bags, nor are we casually sipping a martini at 4 in the afternoon.
And when I'm throwing a party, and I'm looking for something to wear..I'm NOT standing in a $27000 walk in closet the size of a bedroom looking through my acres of designer gowns and Jimmy Choos and throwing them on the floor one after another in disgust. That is SOOO NOT THE MIDDLE CLASS WAY OF LIFE.
And NOBODY I KNOW has ever gotten a new double decker convection oven just to cook thanksgiving dinner. They use the one they've got, thank you.
And then we've gotten slammed by irresponsible lenders who promise "low introductory rates" and all sorts of cool perks so that we are invited (although we certainly shouldn't accept that invitation) to indulge in this fantasy of "being middle-class" that our media sells us and our government supports whole heartedly.
We all need to grow up, and realize that the "I'm worth it" self identity has got to stop. Ask yourself this. Aren't your kids worth it too??
I've actually noticed that a lot of stores are starting to put out sales and coupons that are bigger than ever. This seems to be in line with the economic situation and competitive nature of retailers during the holiday shopping season. When you check the major shopping/coupon websites like Couponwinner.com, Promotionalcodes.com, etc., you see that all of the major retailer chains are fighting for the consumer dollars with big coupons and deals to get their attention. It should be an interesting financial season...
Stop buying crap and start saving !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do think we're have this economic problem? Corporate greed, and blind adherance to the old fashion idea of "growth or failure." But when has corporate America not been greedy? Politicians concerned more about re-election than doing their damn jobs had a huge part to do with this too. But it was American citizens who took the loans, who bought the houses they couldn't afford, who ran up their credit cards, who spent more money than they made. Those people deserve the real blame. We should bring back debt prisions! Start saving, you pigs........ Is it just me, or are the idiots outnumbering the intelligent people these days? They do seem to breed faster don't they, usually by accident!
