The Dems need him in the Caucus, especially if Minnesota and Georgia go Democrat. We have been down this road before. In 2000,it was Vermonts ''Jumpin Jim'' Jeffords, who left the GOP becoming an Indpendant and sided with the Democrats handing temporary control of the Senate over to them.[Clift treated him as a hero, however, and did not deal the kind of dross on him that she now metes out to Lieberman]. Ostricize Lieberman, and he goes into the GOP ranks perhaps for good, and will act as a foil to Democrat machinations.

Isn't it "lay"? As in the lions LAY down with the lambs?
In the strictest grammatical sense, 'lie' is an intransitive verb, whereas 'lay' is transitive. Conceptually, 'lie' is something you do to yourself, and 'lay' is something you do to yourself, and 'lay' is something you do to something/someone else.
    Word Example
lie You look tired. Lie down and rest.
lay Lay down the keyboard and step away from the computer!
The past tense, however, gives many people fits. The past tense of 'lie' is 'lay', and the past tense of 'lay' is 'laid'.
    Word Example
lay She lay in the shade, remembering her youth.
laid He laid the infant in the crib.

    Liberals and their short memories.

Didn't Gore endorse Kerry over Lieberman during the 2004 presidential primaries...after selecting him for his VP running mate in 2000?

Then...didn't the democrats try and cut Lieberman's legs out from under him during his last Senate race? They tried to oust him and he ran as an Independent and beat the Democrats endorsed candidate.

Now you liberal Alzheimer victims are trying to lay blame on Lieberman like he started this crap. How so very typical. You are lucky that he is even willing to still caucus with the democrats.

The" Democrats" didn't "try to oust" Lieberman. He was challenged in a primary, with the defining issue being Iraq, and lost, fair and square. Normally, when a politician loses the primary and hence the nomination for another term, they accept defeat and go home. Lieberman acted as if he had somehow been deprived of his constitutional right to keep his seat, and ran as an independent. The Republicans then nominated a complete nobody and basically decline to campaign for their own nominee. Ever since, Lieberman has behaved like a Republican.

Another article from the "in the Tank for obama" media. Newsweek will never print anything negative about Obama. And quoting CNN polls is like quoting DNC polls... Nothing but spin, bias, and slant from these tabloid organizations.

The fact is, Lieberman is a strong Independent, something not well tolerated by the left. Obama is worried about keeping his promises... and he knows he needs Leiberman as an ally when his promises 'begin to not materialize'.

And... where is Obama? How about some face time in person? How about a general press conference? What's he afraid of... questions?

Joe Lieberman is the most seasoned politians of all times. immediately after the election results with lightening timing he approached the Dems for a newer better tomorow.. In any other election case any one in his position be done. with his chairmanship of the Senate homeland-security committee. Sen. Joe Lieberman with his classic strength is once again working with both sides of his fellow Democrats.& republicans. His book on this would be worth reading.. After all there is no love lost in politics..

Joe Lieberman is a clown. All he lacks is greasepoint, or he could get a job in the circus. Nonetheless, Obama was right to let him slide. In case some of you haven't noticed, we have real prooblems to solve.

The days where we had the luxury of being able to decide elections based on who hated gay married terrorists the most are long gone, boy-os.

With the government concerns about the big 2 spending habits has anyone bothered to ask the question on how much money the government will be spending for this inauguration??

Are you doing drugs? Talk about majoring in the minors....

Thanks for staying so vigilant "ratait1". We just KNEW the Dems were going to get silly with all that money we saved up over the last 8 years, didn't we!

Personally the bigger the party the better - Bush is gone - this is one tax payer who will not care about this bill.

That by itself is no indication of brains. Just saying.

I had to say something to Rocky! Just sayin

      • Posted By: Kemosabe @ 11/22/2008 10:25:16 AM

So, you concede that George W. Bush is neither dumb nor an a$$hole. He won the Presidency twice.

        • Posted By: 40YearR @ 11/22/2008 8:10:21 PM

Maybe there are just a lot of dumb a$$holes...

  • Posted By: jncc1701 @ 11/22/2008 8:59:17 PM

    To Kemosabe
the issue is not Joe's speaking conscience but what he said, not just at the GOP convention but for other Republicans lower on ladder. Personally I think the Dems tolerate too much voting of one's own conscience - and they tend to point in different directions as a result.
But Joe is looking at this only through the lens of Iran and Israel - as if there are no other issues. Personally I do not think this country should bankrupt itself making peace in the middle east when some of the danger can be managed the same way the Cold war was.

Obama was right to be accepting of Lieberman. It is Lieberman who has shown to be childish, immature, and wholly inappropriate as a US Senator. I liked this blog about his bitterness towards the Democratic Party, and subsequent behavior.

    • Posted By: Kemosabe @ 11/22/2008 10:20:57 AM

Your "childish and immature" is my independent thinker and a man who follows his conscience rather than the party line.

While the Dems bashed McCain for voting with Bush 90% of the time, they DEMAND 100% "loyalty" (blind following) of their people.

      • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/22/2008 7:28:07 PM

That is 100% baloney and you know it! The very fact that Lieberman is keeping his chairmanship and that McCain hd been offered a high level position shuts out the silly argument of "loyalty" when you know very well that it was Bush who demanded "loyalty" (using that very same word) from his allies. Yet, it doesn't surprise me, because the Rovian trick was always to attack an opponent by blaming them of your own biggest faults! That ship has sailed.

I bet you my sparest change that the VERY SAME people who supported Bush's destructive policies, who gave him the benefit of the doubt every time and who never admitted that anything was ever wrong, will be the VERY SAME people who will try to bash Obama if he drops a fork at a state dinner. And the proof is right here, Obama hasn't even taken over and you are already attacking him when the facts should tell you otherwise.

        Whatever.

      • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 11/22/2008 2:02:32 PM

"While the Dems bashed McCain for voting with Bush 90% of the time, they DEMAND 100% "loyalty" (blind following) of their people."

If that was the case, Liebermann would be out on his ass, heading up a committee on annual turnip production.

  • Posted By: Brien Comerford @ 11/21/2008 9:44:22 PM

Joe Lieberman is a great asset to Democrats in reference to National Security, evironmental, wildlife conservation and Jewiish issues. It was very mature and astute for Obama to embrace the integral Joe Lieberman. An Obama Lieberman alliance is good for the United States.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/22/2008 7:05:26 PM

I didn't agree with that move but it sure shuts out any brainless argument that Obama is demanding "100% loyalty"... Hmmmm, who DID demand 100% loyalty from his followers to be considered for any position...

  • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 11/22/2008 2:18:09 PM

Liebermann has apologized for those thing he said. it's a non-issue for me now. I think he realized that mcCain might be his only hope. He won office as an independent but the competition was weak He figured his future as a Democrat was over and jumped in with both feet. He thought the Hillary vote would go to mcCain. He figured wrong and is lucky that we need his filibluster vote is essential to reed or he's be on the outside looking in. his first chance to make amends will come when the Stimulus package for the middleclass comes to the floor. Since it doesn't contain tax breaks for the rich, the republicans will surely oppose it. In 2012, 19 more Republican Seats are up for grabs and the democrats will get at least 3 and maybe 5. Leibermann's services will no longer be required at that point.

I don't disagree with your premise here, that it was in Obama's best interest to be the bigger man when dealing with Lieberman. I think this blog puts into perspective all of the reasons he is actually more dangerous as a Senator than he was before 2004. He has been frustrated and bitter towards the Democrats because he wasn't put up as the Presidential candidate. http://www.pragmaticpundit.com/2008/11/democrats-dump-principles-for-lieberman.html
He's bitter, and behaving like a petulant child. It's sad. He used to be a man who earned people's respect.

  • Posted By: JeffdelNorte @ 11/21/2008 10:04:16 PM

An independant? is that a joke? Leiberman is an agent of Israel and the AIPAC. So Obama is telling us, "Israel still owns and operates Washington and will continue to dictate our foreign policy in the gulf region." Same as the old boss.......

  • Posted By: PulSamsara @ 11/21/2008 8:00:02 PM

What is it, again, that they say about revenge ?
    All in due time Joe.

    Muuhahahahahahahahhahahahaaa !

They kept Lieberman because the Democrats want the majority in congress and because Lieberman has been a Senator for 20 years.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 11/21/2008 5:59:03 PM

Yes, and he said he would be a bridge builder. There's one in particular that I wish he would not, but he certainly does not look like he's unwilling to reach out.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/21/2008 6:46:32 PM

Obama is very diplomatic. That is one of the reasons I admire him.

      • Posted By: cobalt6 @ 11/21/2008 6:14:28 PM

I think the Senators who are willing to reach accross party lines have the best interest at heart for the United States. I have always been an independant and I think Democrats and Republicans should not just go along with their party, but should vote whats best for this country!

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/21/2008 6:45:02 PM

          I agree, cobalt. Good post!

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/21/2008 6:45:45 PM

I hope Joe Lieberman stays true to himself now.
