Does anyone have Joseph Frederick's email address? I write a teen-law web site [www.askthejudge.info] and would like to talk with him for a story on the site. Thanks for your help - send it to me at tomjacobs59@msn.com. Regards, Tom.

yea...moses was just "talking to a burning bush" living in the desert eating weird cactus (peyote) and smoking herbs...many of peoples most spiritual experiences occured under the influence of drugs, natural or otherwise. people talk of "speaking with god", and "seeing the light", out of body experiences, and a whole slew of other situations...

why would it be hard to beleive that people of that time did "drugs"? most thought that eatin/consuming those substances brought them closer to god because of how they felt and what they saw while under the influence... and on top of it, none of it was illegal then. plus, humans have always been obsessed with altered mind states.

I am confused. If the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the school, what was "settled" in Nov. with the guy winning $45,000?

  • Posted By: Homeofthebrave @ 11/25/2008 9:31:45 AM

It was a settlement to save the school further expense. Funny... there was a time when the majority of parents would have been upset to find out their own kid was the "stoner" in school, but it isn't the case any more. Now they sue the school for not allowing the kid to destroy his brain at his choice under the mask of freedom of speech. Where is the ACLU when these poor kids after "exercising their rights" need medical treatment and are 60 year olds with limited brain functions. You know, if you just do what is right and teach your kids the same there are so many issues like this you never have to suffer through.

Pot causes lung damage. It doesn't cause brain damage. While I respect your right to your opinion, I'm really starting to hate how out-of-touch a lot of the oh-no-watch-out people are about the science of the situation.

I think this comic is a wonderful take on the ignorance of some of the "all drugs are bad and will destroy your mind" set: http://www.sinfest.net/archive_page.php?comicID=1535

All schools SHOULd be havens for Free-Speach outside the classroom, even on school grounds and at school sponsored events. I'm sick and tired of right-wing, cyrpto-nazis deciding what "right" speech should be. Jefferson and Madson are spinning in their graves.

What kind of reporting is this? Did Newsweek hire one of Frederick's high school classmates to cover this story...he loses at the US Supreme Court yet later wins $45,000 at the state level. Am I the only one who would like some details on how this was possible?

    "Bong Hits 4 Jesus". Classic.

There are some people who believe the holy anointing oil mentioned in Exodus (kaneh bosm or "fragrant cane") isn't actually calamus, you know...

Oh dear God. I wore a shirt stating, "Keep your laws off my body" during the 90s that I never got in trouble for, and then later taught English in China for two years after receiving my BA. No doubt he was one of the "Ugly Americans" I had to deal with, who took underage students back to his room. Your $45,000 is nothing more than a matter of how disgusting America is. Do you know how many things I should have sued for but couldn't because I was Appalachian. Seriously, Newsweek should do an expose on the "Ugly Americans and British" in China and other Asian countries. We're such rapists.
