Floridadave, Try using that, "if you're against the iraq War, you're against the tropps" line with the imbeciles that you pal around with. Won't work here. Bush and Bush alone deployed our troops in Iraq and did so knowing that the reason for the invasion was phony and not warranted. He, Cheney, Rice and Rumsfeld faked the evidence and they and they alone bear the responsibility for the 4000 plus deaths. More over they continue to lie about it while more are dying. The truth be known, the GOP is actually in favor of the withdrawal. this will provide them the opportunity to try and shift the blame to the Dems. The civil war which rages there is labeled an insurgency. After the withdrawal, the GOP will be only too glad to label it as a civil way that was aided and abetted by the Democrats. You are an enabler yourself and should admit to some ogf the responsibility.

P.S. I also wonder--where were all these articles when Condolezza Rice became secretary of state? the black community insults white people by wondering out loud how they're going to handle a black female first lady or how its going to change perceptions of black women when there's been a powerful black female secretary of defense and state for 8 years. what keeps black women down is black men and no one else. the author somewhat addresses that here, which is good to see, but i want to see more articles be clear on who really needs to pay attention, and no, it's not white folks.

  • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 11/24/2008 2:25:12 PM

Thanks to floridadave for his illustration of the difference between the GOP and the Democrats. He sees the First Lady as a house wife. This is prototypical of the Rebublican male. this is how they see all women. Keep them pregnat and shoeless. They are frightened of a women who might express and opinion of their own.

Hillary Clinton didn't and Michelle Obama won't be limited to choosing the WhiteHouse china and reading book to small children. What is it Dave? Are you intimidated by a women who has accomplished more than you ever will? You're a weakling and accomplished women like Hillary and Micheele expose your worthlessness.

    • Posted By: dogmom11236 @ 11/24/2008 3:23:25 PM

I am a conservative woman, married to a conservative man, and he does not want me home, pregnant and shoeless. None of my conservative or liberal friends are "Afraid" of women expressing their opinions. If they were, they probably would not be friends with me. As for Mrs. Clinton, what has she done? A second rate lawyer, who rode on the popularity of her husband? Went up to NY because she probably did not stand a chance of being elected in Arkansas. ( Even my lib friends in Arkansas can't stand her) Oh and by the way, reading books to small children is a wonderful experience. It is how many people earn their living.

What this snarling bit** means is that for the first time in the history of the nation someone who openly despises the United States and its people will take up residence in the black house. This woman is nothing but a piece of trash and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will forever bear a stench after she has been there awhile. I don't know what kind of lie the media is trying to generate about her being classy and smart; her Princeton thesis looked like something a high school sophomore could have written and she certainly has no class at all, unless you like ghetto booty. BTW, since the blacks have been off the plantation for quite a while, are they smart enough to learn to speak English?

    • Posted By: chris s. @ 11/24/2008 3:19:35 PM

You are just oozing with bitterness. So sorry, but you are just going to have to learn to live with it. Just like we classless ,uneducated liberals have for the past eight years. I'm sure you are wealthy, highly educated and very stylish. Sorry to say, not everyone is as well spoken ,stylish and classy as the Bush family, or yourself. My haven't they and their children been the finest of role models. Your opinion doesn't count for much anyway, when one considers the source.

    • Posted By: baybluv @ 11/24/2008 1:30:36 PM

Sounds like you are mad because you don't have any booty BUT you can go and buy you some. You are a hateful and lost soul.

    • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 11/24/2008 1:17:27 PM

Are you jealous? Sounds like it.

She does not openly despise anybody. Except for the ignorant who repeat the same lame misinformation that you are puking out.

    • Posted By: THE RAVEN @ 11/24/2008 12:27:47 PM

WOW, fatass66--you sound bitter and angry to me. Kind of a racist pig, too, aren't you? But that's ok--***, seeing Obama win was a shock to me, too. But you better get over it--he's gonna be there for eight years--with his black wife, too.

    • Posted By: ProudDemoChristian @ 11/24/2008 12:25:32 PM

Wow, how dare you speak of this sophisticated woman that is about to be our first lady in this manner? There would be quite a backlash if Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton had been described in such horrible terms. I guess you are sorry you were born after the times of slavery. God Bless President Elect Obama, First Lady Michelle and their beautiful daughters!

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 11/24/2008 11:33:10 AM

My guess is you'll burst a vein between now and 2012.

    • Posted By: hrob27 @ 11/24/2008 11:13:08 AM

Hey, FatKat66, take this message to heart: *** YOU AND THE RACIST HORSE YOU RODE IN ON.

Any woman that exudes intelligence and fitness is a desirable woman. Not the color of her skin, not the texture of her hair, not the size of her bra, not the fanciness of her clothes. Now, if only women could get that through their thick skull...

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/24/2008 11:34:54 AM

      Wonderful comment!

      • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 11/24/2008 11:44:01 AM

Hi pia, pisapiag is wise to address the women in her post. Trying to rehabilitate the male of the species would be an impossible quest! Grunt! Grunt!

        • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 11/24/2008 3:19:03 PM

I swear! Many have very strong ape-ish qualities. Although, I would venture that apes would not have fallen for Bush's lies. Calling them lies is actually not really to the point. I am not sure what they were. But they sure felt like they were pissinggg down my back and telling me it was raining.

This is exactly why racism is alive and well. The focus is on the fact that she is an african-american, or whatever the current PC term is. That should be irrelevant. The focus should be on what she brings to the table, er, White House as a human being, Her education, her sense of duty, style, family and all the things that the first lady stands to represent as she supports her husband as she pulls duty in what is probably the most difficult job in the world - stay at home first mom. Yes, stay at home. She won't get paid for all the things she has a hand in, all the dog and pony shows and smiley appearances. The same as a stay at home mom doing what she can to help her kids at school, church, whatever. Just focus on who she is as a human being, the color of her skin should be completely irrelevant. Once we as a society learn to look past skin color and not have the past waved in our faces, then, and only then, can we start to put racism in the grave. By the way, one is either American or not. combining one nationality with "amercian" makes it an oxymoron - and a conflict of national interest. In this case, I understand she is an American of african descent.

    • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 11/24/2008 2:36:09 PM

Racism is alive and well because it is nurtured by the Republican Party. They depend on the Hate Vote and always will.

      • Posted By: Skallywag @ 11/24/2008 3:15:33 PM

Try to make a valid point and the miscreants chime in with worthless dribble.

Michelle beware of Monica L.! Obama is gathering a Clinton`s cabinet so , let`s party!

    • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 11/24/2008 3:14:54 PM

Ya, beware! You may have the GOP try to impeach you because you covered up an affair. You know the people of such high morals, who are not hypocrates. Clinton finally gave them something to get him on. When They couldn't pin him on murder and all of the other crp, they resorted to Monica L. Wow, how very clever, how very rightious, how very good for our country.

What a mockery, what a sick bunch of people who ave children who look at them and say to themselves, I can't wait to get the he!! out of this house

    • Posted By: chris s. @ 11/24/2008 3:03:42 PM

That is so uncalled for. Sore loser.

  • Posted By: Dan @ 11/24/2008 12:46:35 PM

If you is a republican you jez don count no way. Even if you gots a PHD from Stanford and was like a secretary - or even a secretary of state or something. Only a democrat can count as a black female role model - even if she was incidently married to the guy who got elected. Besides, Michelle has great fashion sense as witnessed by that black-&-red Lorenzo de Machismo dress she wore at the election party. Now that democrat lady gots some real class! Movin on up - to the East Side - to a delux white house in the skyyyeyyyiiii - weez finely gots a piece of the pieyihiyiyiyi!

No I have a problem with the ineptness and irresponsibility of acting as if we needed to figth overseas in this instance. That was a joke that was peddled on the public, and you fell for it. You actually fell for the anaology of confronting Hitler overseas. What a complete an utter moron who fell for that snake oil.

There was absolutly no reason to go into Iraq, it was a foolish and costly historic blunder.

You feel safer, that is good, becuase you are a fearful person, and I am glad that you feel safe. I hope the people that fuked this whole thing up feee safe, so they don't try and do us any more favors in protecting us.

As far as gas prices, that is a joke. Who is ignorant enough to swallow what you are prescribing. Not me, I am a little more in touch with reality than that.

Bush will be remembered for his ignorarance, hs pre-emptive doctrine, and how out of touch he was with reality in this century.

The Clintons are already regarded as competent and are very popular, so history will not be unkind to them. I have a problem with Hillary voting for Iraq, but that is a huge problem I have with the Dems in general.

The Obama story is going to be written, he is not president yet, and the same people that are talking crp about him are the same that didn't give him a chance to beat the GOP. So they are not very credible and many are out right lost in some other place, somewhere, some other time.

Unfortunately if one looks at some of the TV shows and judge shows as well as go through African American neighborhoods one gets an impression of African American women that is quite different from what one sees in Michelle Obama and other African American women I have met. The stereotype is that of two women yelling at each other neither listening to the other. Each saying what she is going to say. Later they trot off to church as if all were goodness and light in their lives. They suffer the fate of their men on drugs, gang banging or in meaningless jobs if they have jobs. While this description is surely true of some Ms. Obama shows it is not the case with all nor does it really need to be with any of them.

First lady is not just a term meaning housewife. Even in the earliest days she was the nation's hostess. She often was an advisor to her husband and in more recent times the First Lady takes on projects and champions causes that would ordinarilly not have a champion of importance nor would a project get the publicity it needs to succeed without such a public figure supporting it.

Sarah Palin may not have understood the role of the Vice President but Michelle Obama knows the job of First Lady and will perform it with grace. Not since Jackie Kennedy has this nation seen a First Lady this young. She is educated, elegant, and yet down to earth.

Dr. Rice is a formidable woman. She has chosen her career over marriage. There is nothing wrong with that. Imagine African American women, two very successful ones, setting the example for others although their paths and career choices may have been a bit different. I doubt Obama has had nor will have trouble getting the female vote. Now that her time in public service has ended. Dr. Rice can resume her stellar career teaching at Stanford University, one of the world's premiere universities. Her experience as Secretary of State will serve her well as a teacher. Experience as compared with books is much better.

Although Michelle Obama is black, I look at her as a First Lady. She has proven to me that she is fully capable for that position and has the understanding of being middle class. She is intelligent,
caring and very much a classy lady. She will do a wonderful job of representing all women.

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 11/24/2008 2:18:53 PM

"Although Michelle Obama is black, I look at her as a First Lady. "

      How gracious of you.

  • Posted By: jlsp58 @ 11/23/2008 7:47:10 PM

The new First Lady is attractive, but she has to remember that she is not just a sister anymore. She is the woman that is to represent the whole nation not just one sector. Get a grip she dresses like a sister not a presidents wife. You may think that it is cute. I think she dresses like the kids I see at our schools and it makes me sick.

    • Posted By: Talulazoeapple @ 11/23/2008 7:49:46 PM

Wow. How old are you? Seriously?

      • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 11/24/2008 1:56:20 PM

I wish age really mattered anymore. Our kids are way beyond many of the adults that puke out their ignorance with thier smug reasurrance.

    • Posted By: baybluv @ 11/24/2008 1:38:26 PM

You are just jealous because a sister can make anything look good.

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 11/24/2008 12:29:56 PM

Why yes, she should definitely start wearing those ugly ****ing pantsuits that Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush are so fond of. Ugh.

  • Posted By: kylaura @ 11/24/2008 1:39:50 PM

Obama claimed in one of his endless eloquent speeches something to the effect of 'There is no white America...there is no black America..only a United States of America'...by reading this mush, you sure could have fooled me. The author and her "sistas" seem to be only concerned with how our new first lady will change the image of a black mother. I love the dig against Laura Bush and taking on something so inconsequential as literacy....Hello??? Literacy...being able to read.....I find that skill somewhat useful in life. We are at war in 2 countries, our economy is in the tank, terrorists still, yes, still, want nothing more than to see all Americans dead and this goofball author is enamored with the fact that Michelle Obama's skin color is brown???? God help us all.

  • Posted By: cperine @ 11/24/2008 1:14:54 PM

What a great and sensitive artical. Thank you for your candor about the issues that we as Black women still grapple with around color. I too believe that Mrs. Obama's presence on the national and international stage will open the door for our stories--dark brown to high brown--to emerge. Also, thank you for your boldness in opening the door to 'Sista talk.'

  • Posted By: Dan @ 11/24/2008 12:56:13 PM

Based on her simply ghastly outfit on election night, we cant wait to see what kind of inauguration gown Michelle will pick out. I mean, someone get the lady some help before she sets back American fashion one hundred years! She looked like she just won what's behind door #3 on the Price is Right. God help us if she goes to Buckingham Palace like that. The Queen will positively choke on her emeralds and will prohibit any press photographs showing her with such a fashion dud. I mean, even the dowdy Queen would not want to be seen next to such a fashion faux pas. Michelle would be sent to the Tower and then just where would U.S.-British relations be? Michelle get some red carpet therapy!!! Puleeeze!
