It's amazing to read only one comment and realize how far the educational levels of my fellow Americans have fallen..... Do people actually believe this dribble ?

This article is one of the dumbest I have seen in a long time!!!! Like the world is on hold until the God Obama takes over!! The world survived just fine before there was an Obama and will survive long after him.
Newsweek needs to get real!!!! Obama can not solve all the problems in the world, no one could!! All the Media is doing is setting him up for a big fall!! Give Obama a chance to first become president and then try to work on problems. The Media really needs to stop acting like he is a God!!!!

The economy team needs to look at crisis areas and address them head-on one-by-one.

To deal with mortgage default crisis, the government can create a system or agency that allows government to do the following without red tape:
1) Pay off mortgage in for-closures to banks by BONDS
2) Create a BUFFER PERIOD during which these bought-out for-closed property can either: A) be REFINANCED with fixed low interest and payment level that the current owner can manage in the long run or B) be REUSED OR RESOLD while the current owner be discharged of the current mortgage without affecting personal credit history
3) Provide DEFAULT INSURANCE for the restructured mortgages by government's own mortgage default insurance company or agency

For near-bankrupt companies with plummeted stocks; the GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE OVER ONE-THIRD OF SHARES, allows financing for employees to own one-third; and leave one-third for the public

Building roads and promoting green energy is for long term. The more urgent need is to make industries competitive. For instance, it is not efficient for many countries to produce whole vehicles. All automakers are seeing sales plummet due to current global crisis. It is more efficient and competitive for a country to produce an automobile part that is cheapest for the required qualities; such as auto body in the USA, engine in Japan or Germany, upholstery in China. SPECIALIZATION needs to go hand-in-hand with global free-trade because it allows all to grow without impeding competitors??? growth.

Post election we look for actions that might provide a glimpse into the potential of serious ???change??? arriving with an Obama Presidency. We seek something not self evident, something that might provide insight into whether or not Obama has capacity for "vision," and leadership for the Nation.

He's not the President yet, and he won't be until next year. He is soon to be the most powerful man in the world, but right now he's not even a senator. I know you have to type some words and press "enter" so you can get paid, but try to find a way to make the words make at least some sense. This must be the most painful time in Barack Obama's life. The hopes and dreams and fortunes of the entire world are on his shoulders, but he's not allowed to make a move for another 69 days. That's presure.

Obama had emphasized the principle of "one president at a time", but has responded, appropriately in my view, to pressure from all sides not to let the nation drift for two months in the midst of a financial crisis of enormous proportions. This is particularly important because emergence from the crisis will involve a major psychological component - a sense by consumers and lenders that someone is taking charge, and embarking on a course with a clear view of how it will eventually restore our financial health. As a scientist, I would only add that the plan to include alternative energy jobs in the restoration is welcome as a response to a crisis that is less apparent in the short run, but ultimately likely to be more threatening - damage to the welfare of civilizations by unabated warming resulting from the continued use of fossil fuels on a massive scale.

I think we best be getting on with the promise of making America energy independent.Iran just asked OPEC to reduce production by yet another 1.5 million barrels per day.This past year and the record gas prices played a huge part in our economic meltdown and seriously damaged our society.We keep planning to spend BILLIONS on bailouts and stimulus plans.Bail us out of our dependence on foreign oil. Make electric plug in car technology more affordable. It cost the equivalent of 60 cents a gallon to drive an electric plug in car. The electric could be generated from wind or solar. Get with it! Utilize free sources such as wind and solar. Stop throwing away money on things that don't work. Invest in America and it's energy independence. Create cheap clean energy, create millions of badly needed green collar jobs. Put America back to work. It is a win-win situation. We have to become more proactive citizens, educate ourselves and demand our elected officials move this country forward into the era of energy independence.
