claytonburns - seems like you are comparing apples and oranges. Your laborious use of the English language almost makes sense. I fail to see where your citations apply to the article re: John Brennan withdrawing from consideration as CIA Director. Although you attack the text and grammar of Global Trends 2025, it appears to be written in a context where most laymen would be able to follow along and understand the key messages.

However, the crudity of other postings leaves a lot to be desired. Typing responses with all capital letters; the posts where Ranger09 appears to have the "Caps Lock" turned on, and lowercase letters are used where capitalization is called for; the postings with all lowercase letters; the post that goes on and on from eddiewhere; and, those who use the space to further their own political agendas.

It would be great to see people respond to the appearance that the Democratic Party is not in order or managed very well. One would think that a transition team of some sort would have vetted the nominee's for key positions within the Obabma administration to avoid potential embarassments.

The analysis in these three paragraphs, which I have numbered and placed in quotation marks, is so slight as to be disturbing. If anyone has worked with Global Trends 2025 carefully on different computers, that person will have noted how crude production is. Anyone with a sound knowledge of English grammar will be puzzled by the crudity of the text and the failure to employ subordination strategically.

If we were to focus on the third paragraph as a micro-sample of the text, we could only express shock at the superficiality of the statements. If fact, our analysis would be recursive in that we would be analyzing the product of writers who graduated from "elite" American universities. but obviously did not learn very much.

There is no examination of the rampant parasitism in American education as evidenced by ETS/College Board/Kaplan and well-documented textbook rackets. There is no mention of the inability of America to develop major doctorates in intelligence at MIT and Columbia. There is nothing about the national intelligence university as mentioned in "Legacy of Ashes" (600). There is no bibliography of texts such as "Terror and Consent" that students should be studying to understand the security/intelligence needs of the country. There is no comparison of the glowing reports in "Enemies of Intelligence" about CIA education initiatives???with the actual practices as explained in "Class 11."

The text is linguistically defective to the degree that we can deduce that American education in the social sciences is in collapse. Is this a good intelligence sign?

Having a strong defense includes a strong intelligence operation. Obama doesn't need to worry about a couple of hundres shrinks opinion on who HE chooses to protect our country - or a bunch of leftist law professors. Obama needs to do the right thing or we'll go back to a Jimmy Carter presidency - weak military and no definitive foreign intelligence operations! God help us!

Fortunately, CIA has agents infiltrated in Al-Qaida, thanks to Iraq.

INTELLIGENCE IS ONE THING, LIES TO LEAD AMERICANS INTO WARS IS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT. YES WE DO NEED CHANG, BUT ONLY IF ITS THE TRUTH.

Do you remember "24", when all big terrorist attacks started with black President (sorry, no offense, no racism, it is just a movie fact). So, now we have Obama, do we have Jack?

    • Posted By: JMB31 @ 11/27/2008 12:08:26 AM

I was looking for him under our current President, but I kept running into Rummy, saying something about "the chaos not looking so bad when you fly over it." Oh well atleast we had that nice Mr. Bown and that ever so smart Mr. Brenner...oh never mind.

      STAY THE COURSE!!!

    How about nominating Tom Clancy?

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 12/02/2008 1:14:27 AM

"OBAMA "HAS HIS DREAM TEAM""(eddiewhere 2008).. I am surprise that no one has used this term. I am sure I will hear it tomorrow. OBAMA HAS SELECTED HIS DREAM TEAM. THIS TEAM HAS ALL STAR CREDENTIALS. EACH OF THEM ARE HALL OF FAMERS. HILLARY, GATES, RAHM.
HOPEFULLY, THIS DREAM TEAM WILL KEEP THEIR EYES ON THE REAL THREAT RUSSIA AND CHINA. These two countries have already launched a very successful CYBER WAR against AMERICA. They are able to spy on our networks and steal our technological secrets and our patented software.
RUSSIA, INDIA AND CHINA ARE THE SUPERPOWERS OF THAT SIDE OF THE WORLD. They are the key to a multinational strategy. Managing these realtionships is like walking a tight rope(eddiewhere 2008). China and India are always at odds and have a delicate relationship to say the least. I know ZaKaria wrote an article on this relationship six months ago. He needs to write another one.
Another situation that needs to be monitored closely is ORGANIZED CRIME IN EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, ESPECIALLY when it comes to cyber crime and nuclear weapons. These Eastern European countries are a potential conduit for passing NUKES to terrorists.

These Terrorists will be based in the Five MUSLIM breakaway REpublics in Central ASIA( Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistanan) . They can potentially form an alliance with China, who has a long history of strained relationships with INDIA. To the MUslims India is an enemy and a traitor. Remeber how Hitler rose to power, a depressed economy in EUROPE. THESE REPUBLICS in Central Asia have all the same elements.. Russia and CHina will form an alliance based on their mutual FRICTION with INDIA(WHO IS CHALLENGING TO BE THEY PREMIER SUPERPOWER IN ASIA).

LOOSE NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE FORMER SOVIET REPUBLICS IS A BIG PROBLEM BECAUSE ORGANIZED CRIME GROUPS IN EASTERN EUROPE CAN GAIN ACCESS to them and sell them to terrorists.
THE ALLIANCE BETWEEN THE 5 MUSLIM STATES IN CENTRAL , AND CHINA IS A Big Threat.

"OBAMA IS NOW THE WORLD"S FIRST PRESIDENT" eddiwhere 2008.. CAN HE SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE RELATIONSHIPS WITH RUSSIA AND CHINA INORDER TO PREVENT THESE FIVE MUSLIM REPUBLICS FROM SLIPPING DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO ECONOMIC DEPRESSION. ONCE AGAIN REMEMBER HOW HITLER ROSE TO POWER A DEPRESSED ECONOMY IN GERMANY WHO WAS TORCHERED ECONOMICALLY AFTER WORLD WAR ONE BY THE ALLIES RUSSIA, FRANCE AND BRITAIN. RUSSIA IS DOING THE SAME TO ITS FORMER REPUBLICS UKRAINE ect.....

OBAMA IS LIKE THE COACH OF THE DREAM TEAM(BASKETBALL) TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT HE HAS A PLAN TO MAKE JORDON, BIRD AND MAGIC WORK TOGETHER AS ONE FORCE TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. OR LEBRON, KOBY AND PAUL PIERCE. I AM SURE HE CAN AND WILL DO JUST FINE AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE THE ENVY OF THE WORLD AGAIN.

OBAMA HAS HIS DREAM TEAM AND ALL THE TOOLS FOR A MUCH NEEDED GLOBAL STRATEGY.

P.S. REMEMBER BARAK YOUR BLACKBERRY HAS ALREADY BEEN HACKED.

  • Posted By: Second_Opinion @ 11/30/2008 12:44:33 AM

Obama should be no more beholding to the far left crazies than the Republicans should be beholding to the right wing crazies typified by Sarah Palin. America is in deep need of her best right now and forcing out a qualified candidate because of fringe chatter is inexcusable.

  • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 11/27/2008 2:31:06 AM

You dopes at NEWSWEAK had better hope that Obama DOES ''offend his liberal base'' or we will all get the kind of national security intelligence that we deserve, something between Lichtensteins and Luxembourgs, with precisely the same results. Mumbai is a patent wakeup call. Obama would do well to remember this.

why do we need a CIA? i thought change was going to happen, and dennis kucinich was going to lead all the covert agents in singing 'kum ba yah' while putting flowers in the islamofascists bombs and guns.

i'm sorry i voted for obambam.

An excellent page for sample analysis of Global Trends 2025 is "Higher Education Shaping the Global Landscape in 2025???:

1."As global business grows increasingly borderless and labor markets more seamless, education has become a key determinant of countries' economic performance and potential. Adequate primary education is essential, but the quality and accessibility of secondary and higher education will be even more important for determining whether societies successfully graduate up the value-added production ladder."

2."The US lead in highly skilled labor will likely narrow as large developing countries, particularly China, begin to reap dividends on recent investments in human capital, including education but also nutrition and healthcare. India faces a challenge because inadequate primary education is widespread in the poorer regions and top-flight educational institutions cater to a relatively privileged few. Funding as a proportion of GDP has grown to around 5 percent in most European countries, although few European universities are rated as world class. Spending on education in the Arab world is roughly on par with the rest of the world in absolute terms and surpasses the global mean as a percentage of GDP, lagging only slightly behind OECD high-income countries. UN data and research findings by other institutions suggest, however that training and education of Middle Eastern youth is not driven by the needs of employers, especially for science and technology. There are some signs of progress."

3."The US may be uniquely able to adapt its higher education and research system to rising global demand and position itself as a world education hub for the growing number of students that will enter the education market out to 2025. Although further opening of US classrooms and laboratories could mean greater competition for US students, the US economy would likely benefit because companies tend to base their operations near available human capital. Continued export of US educational models with the building of US campuses in the Middle East and Central Asia could boost the attractiveness and global prestige of US universities."
