Within the last 10 years, THE richest Indian, Azim Premji, is a muslim, one of the most respected Indian President, APJ Abdul Kalam, is a Muslim, that too nominated by a right wing Hindu party.. How much has Pakistan done to promote its minorities? All we hear from Pakistan is the Punjabi muslims putting down Sindhi muslims and the Baloch muslims, forget about Hindus or Christian minorities.

Oh sure, blame Pakistan, no other shoe left to fit, RIGHT? Easily forgotten are the MULTI concessions offered by our courageous Musharraf, now the civilian govt. on the real issue - KASHMIR. Response? More CBM's, i.e. keep sweeping an issue under the rug hoping that with more time and stalling it will simply go away of it's own accord. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE INDIAN FRIENDS. UNTIL KASHMIR FESTERS, PIECES, NOT PEACE WILL BE THE LIKELY SCENARIO. HEEELLLLLOOOOO!!!! Any one awake?

@chenzira: "As far as I'm concerned, this is simply a shoddy justification for USA intrustion."

Yes. You seem to be the one guy here who *gets it*. You know, the dude with steadfast unblinkered vision staring defiantly into the abyss that is Asia.
We had guys like you here. We used to call them the British Raj, until we grew tired of them and whipped their sorry hides back to the tiny little isles they call home
Sigh. White man's burden. What would we poor brown men do without you?

Editor Rupee, go home, get a life. Pakistan is 50 years old and is nothing more than a banana republic with 50 percent of the states, Baluchistan and NWFP that are not under government control. You treat fellow muslims as second grade citizens, just because they are immigrants from India or they are Shias. Muslims blow up fellow muslims in suicide bomings all over Pakistan.

Afghanistan is to Iraq, as India is to Pakistan. As far as I'm concerned, this is simply a shoddy justification for USA intrustion. It doesn't matter if we pull are troops out of Iraq. It simply means that they will be deployed on the India-Pakistan border. It's already bad enough that Pakistan got the short end of the stick after British imperialism... as well as US interference with Pakistani gov't by aiding Musharraf.

I agree with Aditya, this is not a well researched article. India works hard at improvement of the underpriveledged sections of the society, whether it be Muslims or other sections of the Hindu society. India had many Muslim Presidents, how many Hindus were so promoted in Pakistan? Kashmir was well economically, till terrorism started and chased away its main industry, Tourism.

There is also no mention of the role that the Indian intelligence agencies who are playing a pernicious role in recruiting, training, and arming terrorists and then transporting them to Pakistan to destabilize the country. This article may get her a promotion for the Ngo that she works for but has little to do with the reality in Paksitan. Pakistanis say ???we don???t want your favors or your hate

Mr. Sudip Mazumdar???s selective amnesia fails to consider the fact that more than 4000 Pakistanis have died fighting the so called ???war on terror???, and Pakistan has been a US ally since 1947. and pure unadulterated balderdash. . Sudip Mazumdar is pushing the Indian agenda to incorporate all its neighbors into ???Akhnad Bharat???. The nauseating fixation upon and paranoid conspiratorial delusions about Pakistanis are a transparent attempt to justify the murderous rampage, carnage and barbarism faced by West Asia. The twaddle fails to illuminate the confusing deluge of eerily inept and counter-intuitive claptrap masquerading as fact in the clumsily stage-managed "global war on terror" environment. There is no mention of the role played in by 52 countries during the war against the USSR which used Muslim kids as cannon fodder against the Soviet Union

Mr.Ron Moreau and Mr. Sudip Mazumdar unmitigated bigoted drivel is biased, it has serious errors in it and is typical of the anti-Pakistan tripe so pervasive in a section of the press days. It is most disappointing how the Newsweek chose to reproduce such a rambling crypto-racist screed. Mr. Sudip Mazumdar teutonic bloviations are an admixture of discredited Neocon assertions, unsubstantiated, or outright Indian distortion, and pure unadulterated balderdash. . Let the Indian military carpet bomb the snakes in Pakistan IF AND ONLY IF they are shown to be responsible in the slightest way for this atrocity. You CANNOT live in peace with snakes !!

The terrorists spoke Urdu with a thick Punjabi accent. They came from Karachi via speedboat. There were calls from Karachi to the terrorists' mobile phones.
This might help you: If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, one can safely assume that the proverbial "it" is a paddle-footed aquatic bird whose common name rhymes with "Chuck".
In case you didn't get that, let me rephrase the above: Yes, the terrorists are Pakistani. Tough luck, but your country is a banana republic.

Indian Political Establishment: "Hey!! a fly just flew into my tea; it is a Pakistani trained fly that is out to terrorize our tea!".

Indian governments need to look at their own treatment of minorities before looking externally for the roots of their sectarian issues. And Newsweek should show more professionalism than to raise an innuendo against Pakistan for which even the flimsiest evidence does not exist.

Indian political establishment: "Hey!! a fly just flew into my tea; this must be a Pakistani trained fly that is out to terrorize our peaceful tea drinking existence".

India needs to look at its own treatment of its minorities before looking abroad for all its sectarian problems and Newsweek should show better judgment then to blame Pakistan when even the flimsiest of evidence doesnt support it.

This article is highly biased. As an Indian I can confirm that the Muslims in India, for centuries, have enjoyed political, socila, religious and cultural freedom. The very fact that the journalists do not know the real name of the militant organization in question (it is Lasker-E-Taiba and not Laskar-I-Taiba) speaks to the professionalism of the report. I wish Newsweek would carry fact based reports and not biased opinions.
