I am so tired of hearing about President Reagan and how he saved the economy from disaster. HIs "trickle down" policies are still causing problems today. And let us not forget how NAFTA has increased our economic problems.. Remember when Ross Perot tried to warn us about the "Sucking Sound" through Mexico and eventually handing our good jobs over to the Indians and Chinese and other Asian countries.

The only good thing about all of this is I don't think we will see another Republican in the White House for at least 30 years, maybe longer.

Mr. Bush managed to take divisive racial and right wing religion off the kitchen tables of those who voted for him because they were tired of no jobs, foreclosures, high gasoline prices, two wars (one actually justified), and invasion of privacy.

We need our country back.. I hope Mr. President-elect Obama will start the parade and all Americans will join in the march to restoration of our global standing.

Happy Thanksgiving all.. Yes - it truly is - even though I am broke..

NAFTA was Clinton's doing not Reagans. Yet it could have been. A horrible policy. Worse than welfare "reform" (or some call it "deform"). Reagan and Clinton being looked at as "good presidents" is just because they came before the even worse Bushes. We BETTER have higher expectations for Obama!

How can you possibly blaspheme the name of Reagan by uttering it in the same sentence with an unamerican fool who cant speak at a high school without a teleprompter. Rev Wright is right about one thing, you liberal worms are going to get a change alright. America has really went downhill. Everybody wants a handout. Perhaps you missed the crashing economy mess caused by the Clinton command to give the low income people loans who couldnt afford it. (The fannie mae / freddie mac ninja loans). The people who built this country that all you anti-god, anti military, anti gun, anti american strength people hate so much are rolling over in their graves. Where is the strength with honor guys when we need them? If you dont know who im talking about, you should watch some of the history channels programs on WWII.

STOP blaming low-income people for causing this economic crisis. That is bull. Made up by rightwing economic "experts" who are basically spokespeople for Wall Street. It is utterly shameful that shows like Oprah legitimize these "experts" and their opinions. THIS ECONOMIC CRISIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CORPORATIONS WHO PROFITIED OFF OF THESE EXPLOITIVE LOANS. Low-income people have to work their butts off for next to no pay just to own a home. They never got "golden parachutes". And the History channel? Propoganda from the right-wing rich trying to sell their fascist propoganda. Here's a little research question - who owns the History channel?

Proverbs 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you will be like him yourself.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.

      What a dilemma!

Not only does the author look like an idiot, she is one. She does not remember, or maybe she does not understand, and is not qualified to write about politics.

Every president inherits problems and good things from the prior administration. I will not list the good things Carter did such as trying to stay off foreign oil, but Reagan took us into todays disaster in the market by deregulating everything, which gave the banks and all others a field day with no accountability, a word that is lacking in Obama's vocabulary, McCain and Clinton. Nobody talked about putting people in prison for 20 years and fining companies hundreds and even billions of dollars. Now the *** Americans, the middle class, will have to pay again.

Reagan knew nothing about Economics, he took us in about six years from being the worlds largest lender nation to the worlds largest debtor nation, and he got us heavily dependent on foreign oil. Papa Bush continued the same . Of course when your CIA, as many presidents have been, you will use American money and personnel to help start wars and overthrow governments, like Reagan supplying Hussein with the chemicals Bush junior went looking for.

Americans are just stupid and I have learned to hate my country since 911 and the way investigations were handled. Wake up America! Your days are gone. We will never totally pull out of this disaster, we will constantly point fingers, having political names instead of good statesmen, which we do not have, to really take care of the problems by facing the truth and saying, "The country is in turmoil and we have help bring down markets in every country around the world due to our constant greed."

To compare Obama to Jack Kennedy, and worse off, Robert, is so disgusting I cannot even use the words they are so dirty. Jack was an idiot and Bobby ran the administration. He was 100 times smarter. Bobby was a thinker, a philosopher, a top attorney (you remember who ran the justice dept., don't you), he was a historian, he had vision which he wanted to put into action until some scum took his life.

I only hope he can pull it off. Most important, everyone who claims to be a Christian, which was a joke of 80% by last years survey, get on their knees EVERYDAY and ask God to perform miracles by helping us, I predict, and so have others, within 25 years the USA will be a third world country.

In less than 12 years the top ones will be China, Japan, Korea, India, and probably Brazil.

It is time America to wake up and demand this Obama guy start prosecuting business people and seizing ALL assets, including homes and throwing families into the street. If there can be no rights for terrorists then these terrorists who destroy our nation and put people out of work should be held accountable. I want to see how the people who voted for Obama hold him to the highest level of accountability.

    I doubt it!

You can't rewrite history. The current Financial mess began with Carter's demands that Fannie and Freddie give mortgages to unqualified minorities and continued with Clinton's expanding of this proccess. I find it funny that Liberal Newsweek should compare Obama to Reagan. When Reagan was in office the liberals vilified him like they do Bush now. Does this mean twenty years from now Newsweek will have an article comparing the current president elect to the Great George Bush.

      • Posted By: noneyas @ 11/30/2008 1:18:41 PM

What I don't understand is all you people who claim to hate your country. The very simple solution is for you to move. Get out. We don't need you. You offer nothing but hate which is not needed. This is and will remain the greatest country on Earth. if you think you can find a better place to live, by all means better yourself and get out. Otherwise quit complaining unless you personally are going to do something to better the situation.

        • Posted By: BetsyY @ 11/30/2008 2:41:58 PM

Why does this have to be "the greatest country on earth"? Why can't we try to be the best earth? Why do we have to continue to be arrogant Americans, instead of working with the rest of the world to maintain peace and prosperity in the ENTIRE world? Because in truth - our success (mostly rich and some middle class Americans) depends on others' poverty and failure. NAFTA's success relied on impoverishing most of Mexico and all of Central America through dirt-cheap labor. Which in turn has driven these same immigrants to come to America. And then we police the borders even though it's the governements' (America + Mexico for selling out their own people in trade policies) that they are coming here! We should be promoting FAIR TRADE so that none of us can be exploited and be forced to move out of our own countries. THAT is how to stop "illegal" immigration. But the rich made up that "greatest country on earth" crap so that they could continue pillaging the rest of the world (and some parts of the US too) for its resources and cheap labor in the name of nationalism and competition. And then use their armies to quell any resistance. Wake up people!

      • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 11/30/2008 1:35:19 PM

You and are the one rewriting history. This a market phenomena pure and simple. Greedheads put people in housing that either shouldn't have been at all, or should have used different lending vehicles. Here's a very brief overview of the present crisis.

        http://www.economicshelp.org/2008/10/financial-economic-crisis-explained.html

And on the subject of why the market was motivated to do this, it turns out that it wasn't government intervention in lending policy at all, but chasing the almighty buck:

        http://www.homebuyinginstitute.com/homebuyingtips/2007/12/subprime-mortgage-crisis-explained.html

I'm really tired of seeing right wingers try to confuse the issue with smoke and mirrors. If the issue is not understood, how can it be resolved? The WSJ editorial staff thought this idea of "its all governments fault" in a frenzy of perverted creativity. They are part of the problem.

    This is addressed to noneyas,

I don't think anyone here is claiming to hate their country. A lot of people hate the direction this country is going in, but what is wrong with that? If anything, knowng your country is travelling in the wrong direction and trying to change that is the epitome of being patriotic. As Thomas Jefferson said, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." It is truly a sad day when one can't utter grievances against wrong actions that his or her country has taken without being insulted.

dawei "Americans are just stupid and I have learned to hate my country since 911 " - Actually this guy is claiming to hate his country

      • Posted By: BetsyY @ 11/30/2008 2:29:26 PM

Enter Your CommentSo what if someone claims to "hate" their country? It's not like they are stating that they are going to do anything traitorous. All it really means anyway is that you hate your goverment. It's much worse to stand by and "love" your country while it tortures prisoners, steals money for AIG and the like through bailouts, and allows Haliburton to profit from war. Don't you wish more Germans would have said they hated their country instead of standing by and letting the holocaust happen?? It's just a stupid fascist thing to say.

Her on the ground wher most of us live, I can understan Ms. Clift's caompaison of Obama to Reagan. It's primarily psychological. I believe thet was what Obama meant when he spoke of Reagan as being transformational, along with a few others who took the office under dire circumstance. I won't say much about Reagan, except that I did not vote for him, even though when he first cameon the national scene with that incredible speech a Barry Goldwater's Convention, I was blown away by him. I will simply add that during his tenure I worked for a federally mandated non-profit meant to benefit low income Senior citizens and the disabled, and our budget shrunk year after year. In fact when I moved on to something else after 11 years at that job, they did not have the money to replace me 'til Reagan was gone, and believe me, I wan't making a fortune there. I was firmly in the middle-middle class with no dependents, so I was able to live comfortably, but I got no golden parachute when I left. I know some worship at Reagan's feet. I'm looking to the future, personally. I'm reall, really tired of arguing about who "really" started this economic mess. It's all there to Google, so look itup, if you must. But let's try to give the new guy our support. Remember, we are working in our own interests and the interests of the country. It's the patriotic thing to do! P.S. I have been disappointed in some of the actions of this country, too. There is more to that quote "My country right or wrong..." Google it.

  • Posted By: noneyas @ 11/30/2008 1:12:28 PM

Reagan loved his country. Obama has repeatedly said how disappointed in his country he is. Mrs. Obama said when Obama was elected it was the first time she could be proud of her country. Obama could never even begin to be as great as Reagan was. What an insult.

  • Posted By: Dollar Wise @ 11/30/2008 9:56:26 AM

FDR's advisors merely used a new set of economic theories introduced by John Matnard Keynes. However, they by no means used strict Keynesian Economics. For example, at the same time they tried to spend their way out of a Depression, they also raised taxes on business. Although Keynesian Economics does stimulate an economy, the stimulis is temporary. The temporary effect was something FDR's crew did not recognze nor understand

On the other hand, Reagan took th exact opposite path of FDR's advisors to break the recession of 1976 to 1982. Reagon went supply side and lowered taxes to create capital formation in the private sector that lead to private sector jobs. The tax decrease notion wasn't out of left field. The idea of lowering taxes to stimulate an economy, to make the stimulus long lasting rather than temporary, came directly from economic studies of the Great Depression and why Keynesian Economics along with Business Tax increases failed.

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 11/30/2008 1:07:16 PM

Gaaah another supply side commando. You people just don't learn do you? First of all the notion that Reagan somehow brought in prosperity is bunk. The figures at the Department of Labor, Census Bureau, and Department of Commerce tell the story. Flat wages, flat household income for a decade. Yeah the wheelers and dealers prospered the last half of the decade, but it just didn't trickle down. David Stockman's 1986 book "The Triumph of Politics" details the inner workings of Reagan's economic con game. Trickle down is a gentrified name of what was known as Horse and Sparrow in the 1880's - the idea being if you feed the horse the oats the oats will pass through the horse and land on the road for the sparrows. Somehow I think that captures it much more accurately than supply side or trickle down ever could. Like I said the numbers are all there for anybody to check.

Or 56 states, as he thinks there are 57 states in the US

People don't get this excited about a messiah. This is a new coach for the team. Much more exciting when your team is suddenly in the cellar. This president-elect has orders from the people to do something. Now. We want peptalks and pennon waving. We want an end to the embarrassing education and health scores in the world league. We want our quality of life back. . We want our productivity back. Upgrade America. Now.

It has been reported and verified that Bart Simpson used a pre-paid gift card to contribute to Obama*'s campaign.. Obama* made no effort to Identify the sources of so many of the cards from ficticous names. Reagan he is NOT

Obama is on the docket of the Supreme Court. Both are cases brought by the Federal Election Commission concerning disclosure of donors, one of them dismissed by Souter already. Really can't you RepubliCONs find some other slender reed of hope other than this garbage? Although I didn't read the briefs, the fact that this is in the Supreme Court simply means that there is some reason to question the Constitutionality of the Election Commission asking for disclosure of names of donors under $200. That's the original RepubliCON complaint that was filed with the Federal Election Commission. It appears your source didn't do their homework before listing them as being over questions of Obama's citizenship. That's to be expected, probably a backroom operation run by Bubba and Otis when their not out running their coon dogs.

Anybody wanting to know what's on the courts docket BTW, can check here:

Brand new book on sale: "Sarah Takes On Big Oil"

The book is written by Kay Cashman and Petroleum News Editor-in-Chief Kristen Nelson. "Sarah Takes On Big Oil" chronicles Governor Palin's first two years in office working on energy issues.

Petroleum News is based in Anchorage, Alaska, and covers the Alaskan and Canadian oil industry.

If you order the book between now and December 1, 2008 the editors will also include a 2 year online subscription to the weekly magazine.

You can get more details, and read some excerpts from this great book at their website:

    www.petroleumnews.com

This book will set the record straight on Governor Palin's record, and achievements.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 11/29/2008 5:31:42 PM

Does it say that she'll stop lying about taking pork barrel federal taxes for bridges to nowhere? How about the higher fees on oil that get's recouped through higher gas prices I pay, so she can redistribute them to Alaskans?

By Petroleum News, huh. Bet that's some kind of truthiness,..you betcha...

I'm thinkin' I'd rather get a rebate on the higher gas prices, than that subscription.

      • Posted By: gary4205 @ 11/29/2008 6:35:14 PM

No, I've read the parts of the book, it's very balanced.

As far as rebates on gasoline, well, gas is $1.69 where I live, that's dirt cheap. But remember this, democrats want to RAISE your gasoline prices to "save the planet" from the global warming HOAX. The only thing that upset liberals concering $4 gas was the fact it happened so quickly!

We are 20 years away from some real alternative to oil aas a sas energy. Governor Palin knows exectly what the nation needds. You forget she ran the agency in Alaska that controls oil and natural gas production., before becoming Governor. She currently chairs an interstate agency on energy, and is the national chaiman of the energy committe of the National Governors Association.

No one who is on the political radar has as much energy experience as the Governor.

You want energy independence, this is your gal!

        • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 11/29/2008 7:37:23 PM

Lets see here. There's this gal that is governor of a state with the population of a medium sized Texas county. She is supposedly, a least according to a smallish fraction of RepubliCONs, an expert in oil and gas, even though she never took a course in petroleum geology in all the institutions she attended while obtaining a BA in journalism. Her supreme accomplishment during her year on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission was to claim everyone else on the commission was to claim every one else on the Commission was unethical. This woman, who got on national television to claim that her state produced 20% of the domestic oil and gas used in the United States is clearly no expert at much of anything except reading speeches and tarring her contemporaries when she deems it to her advantage to do so. Certainly not oil and gas. Relying on Palin to get us to energy independence would be like trying to run a marathon on two broken legs. My guess is had McCain-Palin been elected, around August of next year she would have been claiming John McCain was unethical and should be impeached.

Well, I'm flabbergasted. Reagan/morning in America? Seriously?

I don't get how it is that Reagan is seen today as one of the best American presidents, because the numbers tell a different story. Bush is more like Reagan, a man who talked a good game but didn't deliver and was lucky enough to run against presidential candidates who didn't know what the heck they were doing.

Morning in America = Huge deficit/supporting military juntas in Latin America/declining wages for the poor and weak infrastructures.

    Give me a break, Eleanor.
