I was surprised that anyone found it "creepy" for Benjamin to be under that table with Alice. Couldn't they see the child inside? Pitt did a superb job while Blanchett was certainly good enough. I cried at the end when Benjamin died. Don't do that in many movies.
There's a message in the movie that Benjamin Button narrates that really moved me. He spoke about going back home as an adult and everything is the same except yourself, that really moved me.
My father had passed about five years ago and even though the house is the same, I feel uneasy when I'm there.
This movie proves that growing old (or in his case growing old internally), there are somethings that remind you to take the time to enjoy the moment because it is truly fleeting.
Great movie, I enjoyed it.
Well, I tried to figure out what "the message" of this movie was, but had a hard time. One of the things that bothered me was the fact that visually, you see an old man and a young girl, when in fact they are the same age.... does that mean age doesn't matter? Does it mean that we can't trust what we see? Frankly, an Old man sitting under a table with a girl who is about 10... was creepy to watch. I don't want to rise above the stereotype, because i think it SHOULD be creepy when you see something to that effect. I didn't think about it... it was just my feeling when i saw it visually.... So, am i learning that i can't trust what I see, and the gut feeling it gives me?
I dont understand what the point is. benjamin's personality never actually suggests that he has... a personality. I agree that it was very "forest gump" and Benjamin's lines are very "to the point" for each situation. he isnt a chatter. Forrest gump was a talker and we felt closer to him. Benjamin proved that he really didnt learn anything from growing up in an old folks home... he acted like a jerk and left his wife and kid... because he was scared of that kind of committment, not about getting "younger", he had lots of time left. it proves what he writes to his daughter... "i hope you live a life you are proud of and if you arent i hope you are strong enough to start all over again". which is what he did by leaving his kid in the first place.
and no one ever... seemed to notice that he was growing younger.... it was a miracle that he could walk... in a revival meeting, and he repeatedly shows up at home where everyone still recognizes him, and hardly notices that he's changed. He only comments a few times in the movie about it.
So is this movie saying age does not matter? or is it saying age DOES matter? personally i thin age matters, especially if i ever see a 65 year old man under a table with my 8 year old daughter
I saw Benjamin BUtton on Saturday 3/7/09 and it was a beautiful love story wonderfully told. I must admit I did cry at some of the more emotion filled scenes which is to be expected. A movie that can move ones viewer to feel the joys, pain and hurt feelings of the characters is indeed a well told story in my opinion. Pitt did an incredible job portraying Benjamin. The setting of the story was fitting and it only occurred to me after the movie that Daisy was in the hospital during Katrina which I thought was an odd backdrop to the story. However I would like to know what was #6 and #7 of the lightning stories. That seemed a nice touch as a way to lighten the mood(no pun intended)...Definite must see!
It was, most would say, very delightful yet depressing and I would have to agree with the fullness of my heart. Benjamin button is a very intelligent person but the movie shows that no matter how hard you try you will never get what you want. It was intriguing and every female and the majority of the males cried in theatres when I watched it.

I thought it was entertaining and also brought attention to a very serious disease that not many people know about. Also, I think Brad should get a pat on the back for being able to play an old person.

an appalling egregious modification of dorian grey
while dorian grey is a moral fable which brings a man eternal youth for selling his soul ,some one in hollywoods thought a reversal of fortune would be contemporary genius ,
here the man goes from geriatric to peadiatric ,continuously pestered as an old man by friends as to if he has conquered a female or not as if having sex with a woman is the only achievement a man can desire -in that case the chinese are the most sucessful race as they create more progeny with females then any orher racial prototypes,
after leaving home at 70 he embarks on a sea voyage and ends up in world war 2 -the ultimate blessing to hollywood where a fish trawler sinks a submarine in mid ocean and a metaphorical humming bird appears ,
next is middle age where he eats caviar and has fornication with a rather silly woman on regular basis in a rat infested hotel with gold plated goblets ,
she leaves him a note to go swim the english channel and he becomes brad pitt who finds a ballet dancer in the form of an overacting method nightmare cate blanchett and in the rest of the movie they strip each other ,liaise on a matress ,create an almost aborted baby girl before he gets scared and runs away on a motorbike for a world tour to india ,
when he comes back he looks like he is wearing more loreal then miss blanchett and then he goes to the freudian foetal state getting demented in between as he becomes infantile .
it is hilarious and more concerned with hurricane katrina as it is set in new orleans than its characters who all are overacted or non acted with a skillful function of diligent dysfunction ,
it is a spoof of oscar wildes dorian grey and its inspiration is an absolute mockery of the human life and existence with no logic or message .
the only philosophical treatise discuseed is in a barber shop at the beginning where he is told we are our memory as if we do not know that exists .
there are underwater tropical swimming sequences and southern funerals with black american church stereotypes by dozens and finally katrina comes along and you wish it had struck earlier .
at least this bizarre ordeal would have terminated
Next time please bother to check the names of the characters when writing a review. The girl#s name was Daisy.
To MrCrappyPants - Lighten up, it's afriggin' movie. I loved the stories within the story. It was beautiful, quietly acted, and heartfelt.
Do you think Benjamin's abandonment was consistent with the character and the message of the movie? I did not. If the message of the movie is invalidated by the actions of the main character, that detracts greatly. On the hand, Benjamin wrote to his daughter: "... hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again." Maybe Banjamin was doing just that: he wasn't proud of his life with Daisy and his newborn, so he exercised his strength to "start all over again." Now it all makes sense. I was so wrong to measure his character by the theme of the movie - I should have been measuring it by this statement. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Sarcasm off.
Wasn't Cate Blanchetts character named Daisy?. But none the less an entertaining but sad in reverse kind a movie. Well directed and acted. This is almost like a ship passing in the night scenario with Benjamin and Daisy, meaning that they only have one shot of love at a certain point in their lives, and never get it back. 7/10 for me.
I saw the movie the night it came out and as a women who can not have any children, it made me flat out cry. This movie was very well written, I would pay to go see it again. I can't wait for it to come out on dvd because that will be the first movie I will buy on dvd.
I went to the movie with a friend and we were both emotionally touched. For me, it seems to have some deep psychological meaning. I was emotionally wiped out and not sure exactly why. I think the fact that Daisy ends up caring for Benjamin as he grows younger and dies was unexpected and touching. I would like some input from others, how it affected them, and what meaning they got out of it. Is there someplace on the internet where people discuss movies? donnababs@q.com
I left before the film finished, I was emotionally annoyed I'd wasted my time. Awful and boring.
*** SPOILER ALERT ***
Why would anyone livng the life they dreamed of, with the person they've been in love with for much of their life and a newborn and 15-25 years of good life left, abandon their spouse and newborn?
And Daisy not being able to take care of Benjamin and daughter at the same time? That's an insult to every single mother who has raised children.
I enjoyed the movie, but Benjamin's decision to leave totally invalidated the tagline of the movie: "Life isn't measured in minutes, but in moments."
The name of the Cate Blanchett character is not "Alice" is Daisy.

This article wrongly names Blanchett's character "Alice" when she is actually named "Daisy" in this film.
Pretentious and in need of severe editing. F. Scott Fitzgerald's idea is dressed up with much fanfare--digitally, when it comes to the aging of Brad Pitt and historical recreations of Baltimore, ocean warfare, and the like--but it does not engage the emotions. The old woman reminiscing harkens back to the movie Titanic, but it's now trite and overblown. See Milk, Slumdog Millionaire and presumably many others that would be better.
