Wow, what a bunch of crazies. How does an actors promo of his new movie end up a round table discussion
about jesus, hell fire, and religion. Will makes a pretty good movie, usually. He is a very nice guy (yes i have met
him several times). I guess some people just live for impossible arguements, which can't be resolved, but
can create hatred and intolerence. thousands of years of war just can't put religion to bed. I would like
to say "believe what you want", but if you believe you must convert ( a cornerstone of most organized religions)
than you won't leave me alone. So.......if you think that everyone who believes differently than you, muslim,
hindu, mormon, gay, pro choice, likes mayo on their french fries, whatever, is going to hell to burn forever at
the hands of your loving, forgiving God.........then please drop dead.

Right on. You made me laugh

  • Posted By: JIOMIKE1 @ 12/18/2008 4:50:37 PM

MR SMITH SAYS So whatever religion does that??? Jewish, Muslim, Scientology???it's cool because the end result is the same. HE ALSO STATES THAT WHEN PEOPLE FEAR RELIGION, THEY JUST HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE "GOOD BOOK"- iF MR. SMITH MEANS THE HOLY BIBLE WHEN HE SAYS, "THE GOOD BOOK", THEN HE WOULD KNOW THAT IN THE BIBLE JESUS SAYS, " I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO ONE GOES TO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME" AND THE BIBLE ALSO SAYS, "STRAIGHT AND NARROW IS THE WAY WHICH LEADS UNTO LIFE, AND FEW THERE BE THAT FIND IT"- MR. SMITH IS A GREAT ACTOR AND I STILL LOVE WATCHING FRESH PRINCE, BUT I HOPE HE READS AND STUDIES HIS BIBILE SO THAT HE CAN QUOTE IT CORRECTLY. NOT ALL WAYS LEAD TO ETERNAL LIFE WITH THE LORD.

"We need to get back to the help-your-neighbor concept that's just disappeared in the last eight years."
REALLY? You are going to say that only in the past 8 years has society been looking out for themselves? Reach across the isle.

    • Posted By: esmack @ 12/18/2008 4:38:57 PM

Yes, the majority of people are only looking out for themselves. It is totally disgusting. People have a lack of common courtesy and are horribly rude to others. It makes it difficult to teach my children that we need to respect others when, out in the world at large, that is not happening.

If more people thought like Will Smith, this would be a better world.

  • Posted By: c_kahab@hotmail.com @ 12/18/2008 4:31:04 PM

"We need to get back to the help-your-neighbor concept that's just disappeared in the last eight years." Really? You can honestly put an eight-year time period on something that has been going on for several decades of people looking out for themselves?

I can not believe all of the negative comments about Will that are being posted here. He is being berated because he is honest and open minded.....I don't understand you posters. What is it that you are looking for exactly. Oh and I loved the post from the person that said they will never understand the fascination with celebrities.....but here you are commenting on an article about a celebrity....you are no different than the people that you complain about

They are just being snobs. They think they are smarter than everybody else. Ignore them.

  • Posted By: RobWarwick @ 12/01/2008 12:44:40 PM

how could what an actor says about his personal life determine whether or not you will view his movies? A good movie is a good movie. A good actor is a good actor. Stop being so concerned about their personal lives and just enjoy their movies when they are good.

    • Posted By: Geo-hoffa @ 12/18/2008 4:12:05 PM

      Rob,
This is why we as Americans can choose to support or not to support their views by either supporting their work or not to support. I think it is great someone can stand on their principles or not, instead of blindly following like sheep, like many of Americans. While I like Will Smith, (one of the best role models still today), someone like Tom Cruise I don't and don't support him or see his movies. The right to chose. So let people have their opinion and telling them to stop is ridiculous. If more people stood on their beliefs and principles then we wouldn't continue to elect all the idiots that we continue to do...

Im with Brydges 100% - who cares what he thinks? Why should anyone care what he thinks, I will NEVER understand people's fasination with celebrities. Along the same lines, why do people have such issues with Executive pay rates, and union workers are making too much, but celebrities are just fine. The absurd amount of money they make is perfectly acceptable, but lets crucify the union worker, because he "makes too much", but its ok to pay a celebrity a years salary of a normal middle class worker, simply to show up to a party.

I simply don't understand some people.....

    • Posted By: ltnelson @ 12/18/2008 4:05:27 PM

Executive pay and celebrity salaries are set by the market. If a qualified executive gets a better offer, he goes somewhere else. Companies have to pay good executives enough that they won't lose them to other companies. Union pay is set by something akin to extortion - pay up or we are going to shut you down. This might be acceptable when an industry is in control of the market. It is unacceptable when this drives a company into the ground and makes it beg everyone else to buy its cars and give them other people's tax money to keep them afloat with the same old outdated ways of doing business.

You know, no one forced any of you to read this article. I think the negative comments by some here , reflect more poorly on the commentors than on Will Smith. You must care if you were willing to read the article and comment on it. I imagine that Will Smith is probably more succesful than any of us writing comments here. So stop your hating.

ChristCrucified, we are ALL sinners, how many times does the Bible have to say that for you? If you aren't hanging out with sinners, then you must think you are pretty special and an island of one person. If you aren't hanging out with sinners, just who are you demonstrating Christ's love to?

  • Posted By: NotMyGOP @ 12/18/2008 2:22:36 PM

ChristCrucified, we are all sinners. What part about that didn't you get from the Bible? If you don't hang out with sinners, you'll be an island of one person and have no one around to show the light to.

creep-eee... Yes, the interest & love in all religions is a lovely thought. However, one bright & shiney morning in LA, i'm waiting for the bus and this giant cummuter bus pulls up to the curb. 100 somber-faced, robotic like people get off and walk in a straight line up sunset boulevard all dressed in light blue polo shirts & khakis -- none of them were speaking --- weeerdoh.... Uhm, they all walked into the scientology building. That, and the fact that L. Ron Hubburd wrote a 10 volume scifi novel about a villain who starts a church to make money and I'm gonna go with uhm -- "Smell ya later, loons!"

Education and schools is part of Scientology's Clear Expansion Plan - so everybody on the planet is a cleared Scientology. There are 13 schools represented in the Clearwater Expansion Committee.

For the rest of you, I dont get it....i KNOW you cant possibly call yourselves good church going Christians.....I am in totally agreement with Mr. Smith. I was also brought up around cultural and faith diversity. If you are Comfortable in your beliefs you CAN be comfortable in setting of other peoples faiths!!! For myself it is very interesting to hear of other peoples faiths, i can respect their beleifs, and dojnt feel the NEED to shove mine down their throats. So who are you to bash on someone who says they are comfortable in a christian church as well as a jewish synagogue. Now go pray for yourself, that God will forgive you for passing judgement on others, thats HIS job remember??????? sheesh

This is what Christ says "don't throw your peals before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." But then He commisioned us to go into the world and bring good news. And the good news is, Christ came, died and rose again. That whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Plain and simple. But man rather create other ways and gymnastics called religion to come to God. "Whoever has the Son has life..." and guess what the oppposite of that is. That's the exclusiveness of Christianity that sits it apart from other man-made religion. And why a lot of people don't like it. Because it ahs to be their way. But I'm afraid ultimately we don't call the shot. Yes, a true believer of Christ will not shrink back from announcing that good news. We are under the King's commission. And who would not share that good news? So, "sheeshing" a Christian will only inflame their passion. And millions were martyred and continue to be prosecuted for that bel ief. Because we have the "faith", a conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible."Heb. 11. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..."Romans1:16. What then, to me there are only two kinds of people- the believer and the nonbeliever in Christ. The big question is, which one are you? Will Smith is not going to answer that for you when He comes. All of these- Hollywood, our freedom, our country, your career, whatever it might be that stands in a way between you and God will go into smoke. What will be left standing is your soul that has only two distinations- heaven or hell. Not a very popular word now a days. But does that mean it does not exist? Not talking about sensitive matters like God or Christ does not make Him not to exist. Just because a topic about God or Christ or religion is seldom a very peaceful discussion and we don't want to talk about it doesn't make the question go away. Will Smith in this movie opens up a lot angst in the human heart. The existence of God has been poked with holes by those that has no merit or has little understanding of Him according to His word. And they have the audacity call themselves experts. This is nothing new. He's always been the winner. Philosophy and other religion come and go. But He remains sitting on His throne still waiting for man to come through His own Sacrifice.
