So, if the USA stop "granting" women it's reproductive rights, the USA would be a better place? Interesting thought, considering during the 19th century the "good Ol' USA" was involved in lots of wars, the War of 1812, Barbary Wars, the Creek Indian Wars, The Mexican-American War, the Civil War, The Spanish American War, and the Franco-American Naval War. I don't think there is enough room to mention all the small skirmishes in which people were being forcably removed from their lands (Native American, First People, poor settlers, or otherwise). You know what's really sad though, I think you proved the author's point in the most simplistic way.

As to addressing the issue about animals killing or not killing others of its' own species, I think you missed the point of the article. Humans are notorious for systematically coming up with new ways of killing each other in the name of war. We have industries devoted to the topic of war. Personally, I would love to see a bunch of lobsters organizing with more protective body armor, crawling 100 ft to do battle with other lobsters or crabs (because crabs are different and don't deserve to live with the lobsters). I just don't see that happening.

If the USA gave women the greatest control over their reproduction and if the USA had the highest rate of violent crime and if the premise of the article was that humans were the only animal that kills it's own kind then McSleepy would have a point. Otherwise I'd say better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.

This is great except for one thing: when one superior culture (and yes, not all cultures are equal) artifically lowers its birthrate, it is eventually crowded out/marginalized/overwhelmed/eliminated by inferior cultures who don't understand "a woman's right to choose". So look around you. See a pattern here? Which cultures in the world are shrinking, because they "know better" and which cultures have exploding birthrates and ever-growing influence ( and not necessarily positive)? NEWSWEEK (at least what I see of it on through the MSN website) publishes nothing but the most extreme liberal screed. Their stuff ought to come with warning labels.

    McSleepy:
The writer said humans are the only MAMMALS that kill their own kind. Pay attention!

Any other time I would say an article is too long and filled with filler garbage. This is one time when I wish the writers would go into more detail. Which cultures? Where did you get your data? Ever since I lived on the east coast I've argued that the single biggest base problem for all of societies ills is overpopulation. I want to know more. What kind of teasting article is this?

Humanity today is based on the gene pool of the powerful men from the past. Scientists have used genetics to show that Genghus Kahn now has millions of decendants. A powerful Viking from the 10th Century left his surprising numbers of offspring in power positions across northern Europe. Apparently these warriors not only spread their seed, but did it with women of sufficient stature that the babies matured into powerful adults.

In America, we know of some famous stories like John Smith and Pocahontas that made babies together. In the colonial conquest,, the native men lost their lives and their women to the colonists. Not surprizingly, Americans , black and white, often have a grandmother with Native America roots.

Pocahontas and John Smith did not have babies together! Learn your history!

Not sure I believe this bs. At the end of the day I believe that there is good and evil. The difference between man and animals is that man has the ability to think and reason. Animals, at least not to the extent that we do. do not have this ability. I feel that any man that kills another for any reason other than self-defense has let "evil" get the best of him.

All I can say as a Marine who has seen combat, that as a young adult you do want to kill someone. Most people who have killed someone in combat will tell you it changes you at your core. Myself I hope that I never have to take anyone's life agian.

Don't forget that many times, war is a man's persute. It's about militarily waving your manhood in front of everyone. Plus, there is an element of desperation there in times of war or natural disaster to leave behind a part of yourself before you die and in war, you never know when that will be.

There are plenty of species that kill their own kind. Preying mantis females eat the males after mating. Salmon, trout, etc. eat the young of their rivals to preserve their own genes. Elk, bighorn sheep, etc. occasionally kill off rivals during mating season as they are battling. The authors need to do more research on the evidence because they are showing that they are morons.

This is why you never let the bully bully you around, or you never let the teasers get the last laugh. Hiearchy is humans form early in life. It burns an image of who you are and what you can get out of life. A lot of people lower on the hierarcy might fall into patterns of alcohol and drug use to cope with their social disposition. Simply knowing this will change your life around. Knowing you are on a hiearchy will give you the power to resist your place.

Men have a natural urge to kill other men to get access to other men's women. Simple. Kill the men, rape the women. It's how men are wired. That's all. They can't help it.

I am not on expert on this subjeect...and can tell you this is lame! Dogs don't kill their own kind?? Huh? This is mrely a layer of opinion, with little facts.

I truly beg to differ. Both acts stem from primordial drives, and it's all about Alpha. Females typically choose the best or most fit mate in all species. Donimance, or where the potential mate fits into the pecking order, is a great determinate to her choice. To really simplify it, the more access males have to sex, the less violent they will be.
