and ANOTHER thing. You are starting a very dangerous journey when you start down the road of scapegoating a group of people for your problems. The antisemitic rant is stupid, uncalled for and incredibly dangerous. (No, I'm not Jewish, I'm black.) Stop blaming tall he rich for your problems. The ones who advocated subprime loans and deregulation are to blame, but so are the people who bought houses they clearly couldn't afford. Suck it up, man, suck it up. Stop whining, pull on your big girl panties and get to work. but please stop whining--it's so unamerican.

Obama ran on changing what we have had to endure over the last 8 years of the Bush administration, not the Clinton Admin. Get it right Dakota. And what's wrong with a BJ?

you think that o.b. is going to come in here and take over on 1/20/2009 you are nuts. it will be much more worse. he calls for change but we get the same old clinton leftovers. maybe o.b. can have a b. j. in the oval office just like billy did.

The rich have no shame. They didn't earn their money, they stole it from people who actually work for a living and don't have food, shelter, clothing, or health insurance. I hope they all burn in hell.

Big deal. The cream of the crop of the greediest and most obscene. the Fulds of the world, the hedge fund hacks who leveraged 40 to 1 to dabble in risky real estate ventures, all those fat cats, are still fat. Wearing baggy clothing does not make you thin. You are still fat. This is simply a case of deferred display of vulgar luxury. The rich guy knows he can buy a Ferrari in a heart beat. He is just waiting for the day he will have fun doing so.

The opening vignette described a man aware of the plight of others, not a man ashamed of his own wealth. The epitome of greed is the resentment of another???s good fortune, whether that be acquired through hard work or inheritance. ???Shame??? is a term invented by the greedy to project their own sense of inadequacy upon those who have what they want and cannot get. The only real ???shame??? is that some can???t find pleasure and satisfaction in who and what they are, and spend a lifetime measuring themselves against fantasy standards

I have always known that wealth is a substitute for character. The shame is that these people know nothing of real struggle and suffering. If they did there would be less hoarding and more generosity in our world. In a time when the whole world is hurting from AIDS, WARS, Homelessness, Bankruptcy, Hunger, and devestations spanning the globe I cant help thinking how these people who collectively control over 40 TRILLION DOLLARS shouldnt be shamed. They should be actively assisting all of the rest of the world with their assistance. Not looking to curb selfish spending as a way to avoid shame. Avoid shame by creating benifit for others. The way they are going now they will have learned nothing and eventually resume the viscious cycle of self indulgence. With creation of benifit for others thay have a chance to grow into the type of people the wealthy should always have been. Nobles oblige isnt just for aristocrats, its for everyone who has something at the expense of others. Think about it, without wealthy people there would be no poor people.

I agree that capitalism is one of the things that makes America great. It's their money, why not spend it however they wish? The problem, as in the case of these faultering financial firms, is when the CEO's are the ones floating on a lifeboat sipping champagne while the poor saps in 3rd class are scurrying around on the sinking ship fighting over a single lifejacket. Personally, I'd have a hard time looking in the mirror each morning.

Uhh, this article made me sick. It doesn't matter how much money these people lose in the stock market, they still spend as if cash grows on trees. 25,000$ vacation? At one point in order to survive financially I had cut my food budget to 20$ a week?Let me tell you, 20$ doesn't get you much at the supermarket, much less a fancy vacation. Lets hope some of these people get knocked down a notch and feel the pain the rest of us are feeling.

I think what's most disgusting is that everyone, to include Congress, is shaming people for living in a manner that takes advantage of something this country was based upon, capitalism. They worked/acted/managed/led their way to that much money, why the hell should they be "jacked ... for no particular reason" or feel ashamed? I may be part of the struggling masses, but I'm not serving a socialist/communist/etc country where the money I/they make is a bad thing and they should give it back just because they have so much of it. Come on.

    Politicians fake sincerity.
    The Rich fake humility.
    Attorneys fake intelligence.
Doctors fake credibility... So, is this NEWS? NO ONE yet knows the definition of shame... but they will. Yes. They will know shame.

    So,

My bleeding heart weeps for these people. I am focusing on keeping my small house and providing for my second child I just found out I am having and these thieves who make their money by underpaying the people who work for them and overcharging for any and all goods and services they provide cry because they feel guilty about a 9th $20+ house? Good job Newsweek. Providing a story that really shows the struggle of the American people at a time like this.

maybe you can get away with arrogance out on the coasts, but around here you get jacked just for appearing cocky or even for no particular reason at all......i f you got money better not look like it..

  • Posted By: sickofrich @ 12/02/2008 4:26:06 AM

the Rich need to start giving back to the people that made it possible for them to be rich
it's disgusting that someonecan juts pick up an exotic car for the hell of it while half the world
is starving , or on the brink of it , that money should be in the hands of MANY family's that are begging just to eat and pay rent , I hate the rich for there unwilingness to see the worlds pain around them .
I sit here with a smile on my face everytime one of them takes a fall .. welcome to the real world
hope you enjoy because we sure don't ..

Promoting class warfare is ideal journalism. Its an easy story. Don't have to promote any thought from the reader. You merely bring up word, put on it on 350, and bake 45 minutes.

Possibly following up the story with something about Dog Boy from Mars would be appropriate.

Promoting Journalism might be your next quest.

Poor guy. My heart really goes out to him, resisting the urge to just go out and splurge on some multi-million dollar apartment or exotic sports car. That really makes me feel good while I'm working my rear off just to afford my college tuition and health care.

Conspicous donation: Give that homeless beggar you pass on the street $1 - instead of $700 billion for the banks who put him there. Then go shopping, guilt-free.
