Wanted: A New Grand Strategy

No need to Rocky! What other party would take a mouth-breather like yourself in except for the GOP party of hate?

Indeed, a very well thought over and well documented Analysis of the today's world realities, its problems, challenges as well opportunities. As the Author has said as 21st century advances the world order is definitely going to be multi-polar and No single ideology can prevail. It is only the pragmatism that is the real approach to servive, prospour or even to live in peace in this changing world order; As president-elect seems to believe in this pragmatism, let us hope he does to the best of his ability attempt to administer an the new commander-in-chief of (at least today's) this strongest nation on earth and there by become a trend setter in this New century.

There are a number of points I agree with.
1. We are living in a time of rapid technological change that has enormous economic, cultural and humanistic impacts. Old cliches will not do the trick: "White man's burden"; uniquely chosen by God; etc. The old concepts of balance of power politics; balance of terror; mutally assured destruction; etc are no longer valid (if they ever were). They should be replaced by Mutually Assured Destiny (another form of MAD).
2. People are people all over the world. We have lived through the centuries in divergent cultures and evolved different customs. But these different viewpoints on cultural existence should not override or color our realization that humans are humans and they have a commonality in that existence. They should be able to discuss their viewpoints; respect their differences; and rely on the idea that the truthfullness or validity of ideas will determine that order of things; not the egotistical, self-centered concept of xenophobic superiority.
3. The compactness of the world due to technological change and the mobility of populations/resources obsolesces the idea of George Washington of New World isolationism. He was a giant in his time but the "Times they are (and have) a changing".

I do not believe that these precepts belie America's unique place and contribution to history and our role in ensuring that history keeps marching on (just like Peabody would say in Rock and Bullwinkle). But we have to recognize the natural law conept of the worth of the individual no matter where that individual comes from. Our National Interests must protected but they must also reflect the universal concepts we were founded upon. Wayne C.

The reason the governments of the West are having such a hard time dealing with Islamic Fascism is that they refuse to hold various populations (such as in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia) responsible. Instead, they blame the governments of these countries, without taking into account that most of these governments are far less radical than their citizens.

It's not a very nice prospect to consider, but until the populations of these countries are made to pay for the sins of the terrorists they support, then there will always be terrorism. But when the problem gets bad enough, then the countries being attacked will no doubt resort to real war and do what the allies did to Germany and the US did to Japan in WWII.

is a fine piece of nonsense. The earlier rates meant that the China:US ratio increased by 109/103 each year, or about 5.8%. The new rates, if true, mean an annual increase by 105/101, about 3.9%, a slower change in ratio and a later arrival at parity. But perhaps a US problem with percentage calculations will speed the process.
