Someone ? who was an operational weather forecaster... I love your sources. what is this your next door neighbor... sounds like you two have been sipping back on Grandpas cough syrup. And you both still believe Darwin was correct when even mainstream evolutionist discount his therories and have come up with new fresh ones, right... Wake Up !!!"

Uh no, there are no "mainstream evolutionists" that discount Darwin's theory. Somebody so ignorant of science as to post this drivel in an international medium just lost any credibility in any area of science in my opinion.

Check out the Global cooling of the 1970's... Readers Digest and others had articles on the cooling earth and warned of the next ice age coming... Environmentalists received lots of money so they could fix it... All the animals they said would be extinct in 20 years are still here... Now it's global warming and they will take your money so they can fix this too... Wake Up !

This is indeed a sweet twist of irony. Bush was awarded the presidency of the U.S. by the court and ended up the worst president in our history. Gore became the president of the world with his environmental mission and advocacy. Dictatorial leaders of the countries have to order children to wave to Bush in his state visits. People lined up in the streets to cheer Gore when he visits another country and cheers his presence and his speech with a prolonged standing ovation. What did Bush get for his speech? Flying shoes!

History will reveal the fool... 2008 is the coldest year in 10 years ! can't wait to hear the excuses when the glaciers start getting larger and larger. The history of natural weather patterns have been ignored by the environmentalists so they can keep racking in the money. When Democracy starts spreading through the middle east the wisdom of bush will be revealed.

So how many years in the last 100 was 2008 hotter than? Most of them, I think. And that would make 2008 one of our warmer years.

As Mark Twain said, "There are liars, damn liars and statistics.

...and, of course, there is cherrypicking.

        • Posted By: darincoveyjc@cox.net @ 12/27/2008 2:57:27 AM

Yes, you???re correct yet the cooling trend will last for years also and your environmentalists will come up with another therory about man ruining the planet and collect your money to fight it. No one denies there is very very slight warming of the planet, yet there is ZERO evidence that man is causing it Just some therories which thousands of scientists disagree.

2008, The Coldest year in 10 years ! Humans causing Global Warming is made up by environmentalists to get Donations ( make money ) just saw another commercial making up stories about the Polar Bear going extinct if we don't do something quick... what a joke ! can't wait to hear their explanation when we have a Cold streak... Humans are causing this Global Freezing so send us more money so we can fix it...

      The "Wisdom of Bush"?

You really mean it, don't you?

Torture, unconstitutional signing statements, blatant lying, bungled wars, twisted science, spectacular incompetence...

It really is true, what Abraham Lincoln said: "You can fool some of the people all the time...".

Then there's Churchill: "Men occasionally stumble over the truth but usually pick themselves up and carry bravely on."

Meanwhile, the rest of us have to fix the messes...

      • Posted By: darincoveyjc@cox.net @ 12/27/2008 12:21:08 AM

Let me guess, your favorite web site is moveon.org I love that The 2 people you quoted would have most certainly supported Bush policies far more than Obama or Clinton...

        • Posted By: Republican be gone @ 12/27/2008 12:28:17 AM

Well, let's see, Abraham Lincoln helped win the civil war, which saved the country and abolished the evil of slavery and Churchill kept England in the fight against Germany when the fight seemed hopeless for over a year, quite possibly altering the outcome of WWII.

So let's compare that to George Bush: Bungled wars (by the way, I was in favor of going into Iraq... I just resented the tragedy of Bush's Bungling in screwing them up), torture, lying, unconstitutional signing statements, spending money we don't have, ignoring any science that doesn't conform to ideology..... it's a long list.

I think your comparison is apt. I just don't think it highlights what you think it does.

          • Posted By: darincoveyjc@cox.net @ 12/27/2008 2:39:18 AM

No war has ever went just as planned and never will. We would all love that... it's not the president, it's war. In the End most (not all) have ended up saving many more lives than were lost.

get your head out of the snd ! FACT: Accurate satellite, balloon and mountain top observations made over the last three decades have not shown any significant change in the long term rate of increase in global temperatures. Average ground station readings do show a mild warming of 0.6 to 0.8Cover the last 100 years, which is well within the natural variations recorded in the last millennium. The ground station network suffers from an uneven distribution across the globe; the stations are preferentially located in growing urban and industrial areas ("heat islands"), which show substantially higher readings than adjacent rural areas ("land use effects").

Here are a few facts from someone who was an operational weather forecaster for 25 years, has a master's degree in physics and has followed the global warming issue for 40 years:

      1) Computer models that are used to forecast global warming show most of the warming near the surface of the Earth... not all levels higher up are forecast to warm..... so this issue of the vertical distribution of temperature changes DOES NOT

Oh, here's another piece of misinformation some moron is going to bring up any minute now:

Volcanos dump carbon dioxide into the atmosphere all the time. How can human contributions be significant with that going on?

That's the misinformation. Here's the fact: on the average, humans inject more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than do volcanoes (or at least that's what the National Volcano Observatory in Hawaii says).

If volcanoes were more significant in carbon dioxide contributions than humans we would expect to see spikes in the atmospheric carbon dioxide content following eruptions with little change in between. But that's not what we see. What is actually occurring with measured atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations is a smooth rise (other than seasonal variations due to vegetation) with no spikes.

This is consistent with humans being more of a contributor to global warming than volcanoes not the other way around. Yet, year after year, I keep hearing this ignorant argument...

...it reminds me of the creationist's silly attempts to use the Second Law of Thermodynamics to try to disprove evolution when what they really prove is that they don't know what they are talking about.

    • Posted By: Republican be gone @ 12/27/2008 12:38:50 AM

(continuing) DOES NOT contradict the idea of global warming.

      2) The warmth generated by cities has been statistically shown to NOT be the cause of all the observed warming. The "urban heat island" effect, as it is known in the meteorological world, DOES NOT contradict global warming.

Looks like you are going to have to look elsewhere for some additional seemingly meaningful anti global warming factoids that, like these, are completely off base.

There is a very simple partial solution to the energy crisis that every American that owns a car could implement. Instead of building electric cars that will require charging off the grid power that often is created by burning fossil fuels, reverse the process. Use a car's electricity generation capability to generate and store electricity for later use. With one billion cars on the roads of the world, this can be a major new source of FREE electricity that will offload the grid while causing no pollution or additional fuel consumption. Vehicles are being driven anyways. Why not get double utilization out of every gallon of fuel being consumed.

Can't be done? Wrong! We are doing it here in Uganda and are looking for partners to bring the technology to the rest of the world. Sometimes the simplest solutions are overlooked. www.aaes-ltd.com

You people who say 2008 is the coldest year in a decade so therefore the planet is NOT getting warmer. Really? What are you comparing 2008 to again? These last ten years have set new records for being hot and you're comparing 2008 to the hottest ones on record? Come on - you just have your HEAD IN THE SAND! Look at the science - look at the last 400,000 years' relationship of carbon concentrations to temperature. Read the SCIENCE for yourselves and USE YOUR BRAIN to THINK. Leave politics out of science and look at the facts.

No comment, no repartee after my comment? Gosh, a quiet night. I was ready to respond to anything, but let me shoot my bullet: Conservatives are quick to say how eak we Liberals must be. It was a Liberal government that promulgated "unconditional surrender" in the Great War. We are serious about freedom. Times change and I remember worrying that my governemnt was being slack when world problems occurred and we - the strongest nation on the planet - demurred for diplomatic solutions. Momentous problems have happened and we - our nation and our government have become embarrassed and have an appearance of weakness. Oops. Our citizens, so many of them, hear the Gospel According to Rush Limbaugh. As an old man, I remember dealing with the Russians during the long Cold War. Russians and their spokesmen were quick to refer to Communistic Theories and equally quick to say truly bad things about their perceived enemis. In my life time I have seen The Wall fall, but have also seen Conservatives rush to say bad things about their perceived enemies - their own countrymen - and quote policy time and again rather than look toward human policies to assuage the discomfort of their fellow citizens. The Conservative paper in my hometown is still sprinkling "quotes" whenever mentioning substantive issues such as global warming. I am an old man and no one listens to me. I do not feel alone now that Obama has been elected.

Vegetarianism reduces global warming, deforestation, water, land and air pollution and myriad ecological crises. Al Gore is not a vegetarian and he's not a bona fide environmentalist. Gandhi was.

Full vegetarianism leads to reduced life expectancy.Meat is a wonderful source of protein, ask a responsible nutritionist.

Properly raised grass fed beef will not lead to the doom and gloom scenarios you predicted. It is wide scale, industrial ranching that is the problem.
Open your mind and please stop spouting your vegan propaganda.

I love Mr. Gore's quote of President Elect Obama, that we go from terror to trance when it comes to gas prices. In real life, our public - me included - has been like going to sci-fi movie. I pay my money, see the movie and walk out into my life with no thought. I am 60 years old. Surely the 20-30-40 generation will take up the cry.... "Who is watching out for our children!" Let me add a side note from an old man's history (you should have known that one would come.) I remember Mr. Reagan and Mr. Gorbachev meeting in Iceland. Out of all that was said, my favorite quote came from Mr. Gorbachev. He said, "We must begin to plan our world in a way that takes care of our grandchildren." Who will take care of our grandchildren if the 20-30-and 40's folks don't kick a fuss and make the old generals and the old industrialists make a change?

It breaks my heart to think how different our country would be had the Supreme Court ruled the "recount" differently. I doubt we would be in such debt from an unwinnable war, perhaps our economy would not be in such tatters had Mr. Gore selected others to be charge of oversight of Wall Street, the Big 3 would not be in Washington now hat in hand because they would not have been let off the hook. Dear God, people, in retrospect, can we not see what happened to us? Mr. Gore, America owes you an apology. Please run again. We want a do-over.

scientfic studies indicate co2 levels in atmos in us at well below threat levels what about sun spots near sun
temp data indicates that world is not warming but the opposite!! do a survey--interesting to many

I disagree with your label of the former Vice President. He sat in his chair and joined in the countries that criticized us. He was enjoying the one country that is the number one in abusing the enviroment. China. I'm sorry. Buy a home in Bejing. Leave. We don't need you. We need Americans who are on our side. We need leaders who are going to lead us out of this mess that you had a major part in bringing us to this situation. Mr. Gore. If you're not going to be a part of the solution. Please get out of the way. Thank You.

We do have magic solution if only we care and pause for a while to be away from the cacophony regarding environmental damage. Surprisingly the same emphasis is not given if a positive solution is available for implementation today. The environmental groups also seem to have vested interest and think with single track minds. We can use gravitational force to transport ourselves at 360 kmph between cities, commute at 108 kmph in metros and move goods at 100 kmph from any point to any point, with gravity force providing the energy needed. We can save more than 90% of energy we use today in transportation. In case of high speed travel, 70% of energy is saved. ( US Patent 12184151 dt 07/31/2008) We have the solution ( www.atrilab.com ) . But does anybody care? People think they all that is to be known about gravity and so feel this must be one of those prank claim. Honest examination of the scientific concepts based on Newton's laws and the practical implementation described in specification of the patent , shows how easy it is to get benefits. USA can save 8m barrels of oil daily and prevent 3.5b tons of carbon emissions annually. It is time we talk of positive solution and implement rather than merely enjoy running a "green" lobby . Eternal gravity can provide us freedom from the fossil fuel based engines in the matter transportation. But gravity is not glamorous like nano-technology and human stupidity, as Einstein commented has no bounds. Simple solutions we cannot believe!

I will be just there on the corner. Talking with the Americans. Do it. It doesn't matter. We will be heard.
