I found it incredible that under the "Middle East" in the Global Agenda article there was not one mention of Israel when Israel is the problem in the middle east.

Since the war began, if you can call it that, there is more poppy cultivation than there was prior to this war. More opium is, and has been, as John Kerry pointed out when he ran for president, shipping out of the country than before American forces were on the ground. We have a US troop deployment and 'holy men' cultivating drugs. From the amount of money these drugs have made I would say someone has won. Given that our secret government has been in the drug business since the 60???s I am sure they are sharing in the proceeds. It looks like it has been a fairly costly war to the taxpayer and the soldiers alike, while it has been immensely fortuitous for the Taliban and the CIA. Funny the government is supposed to protect us from such things and the Taliban revere a book that speaks directly against such activities. Well it seems that irony scored a victory as well.

So your saying we should have let them be and everyhting would have been OK?

When I see a writer say things like "The war in Afghanistan (like the Iraq War) won't be won militarily. " all I can thing of is Harry Reid talking about Iraq and saying "This war is lost." And how wrong that idiot was proved to be.
There is no such thing as an unwinnable war. Period.
If the US was fighting the war in Afghanistan correctly, with massive firepower, we could destroy all the Taliban. We're simply not trying hard enough.

"Victory" in Afghanistan is simple. Can girls go to school? If so, we've won. If not, it's the Taliban all over again.

Shut uppp!!. As long as there are extremist/terrorists running around freely America will always persecute those who seek to kill innocent Americans. Kill the enemy, because the enemy never tires, never sleeps. You Cowards, you want us to leave??Have you NO backbone??Love for your Contry??

OF COUSRSE there will be no "VICTORY" as u put it. Because Afghanistan is not real country as we know it. HOW can you declare VICTORY over a belief you Idiots??? All you can do is closely monitor the situation and make strikes when needed. You People are stupid (ndrock) "Never been there to begin with" your an idiot who are you?? they killed 3000 of your countrymen??, whoever wrote this article is a moron..Liberals and there banter make me sick please get ur head out of ur ass. Idiots please keep ur comments to yourselves..

  • Posted By: ndrock @ 12/02/2008 1:08:50 PM

There never was going to be a "victory", and anyone who thought or thinks otherwise is just plain stupid. Those people don't want to change, they want to keep their tribal ways. It gives the men excuses to control and kill the women at will, and scare the hell out of the next generations. We could throw hundreds of billions of dollars and another hundred years of American lives, and we will NEVER, NEVER, have a "VICTORY". We should never have been there to began with, PERIOD!!

Quote: "One of history's enduring lessons is that Afghans don't appreciate it when outsiders tell them how to govern their affairs."

There wouldn't have been an invasion of Afghanistan if their government had not harbored terrorists that attacked the US and killed 3000 innocent people.

    • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/02/2008 12:42:21 PM

Correct. This is why we should never have become distracted from kicking their ***.

But, no, we had to go screw around in Iraq.

  • Posted By: nawawimohamad @ 11/30/2008 10:41:10 PM

The US is not interested in peace for the whole world. Military activities will trigger tother economic activities. At times when people are reluctant to spend, banks reluctant to lend and investors are refusing to invest, military expenditure is the only viable alternative. The invasion of Iraq and the war in Afghanistan are the economic stimulus for the US. The US will never stop these wars until and unless another war has been started, say the war with Iran.

    • Posted By: Skypoint @ 11/30/2008 10:55:22 PM

Maybe we should have left Afghanistan alone after the ass kicking we got on 9/11... and while we'er at it, let's leave another third world mafioso to his own devices and let Iran have nukes.

Anything to make you liberals happy.

"and while we'er at it, let's leave another third world mafioso to his own devices and let Iran have nukes."

Before hearing the same scare stories about Iraq, I might actually have taken that seriously.

        • Posted By: Skypoint @ 12/01/2008 8:29:39 PM

I suppose that means we should never take anyone seriously again? My God man, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has continually called for the destruction of a sovereign nation. But, take heart. We'll ultimately do it your way and a madman will have his nukes.

          • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/02/2008 12:41:14 PM

" I suppose that means we should never take anyone seriously again?"

Not the Bush crowd, nor their followers. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

No, I don't think he meant that at all. Taking things seriously and rushing headlong into war are different things. The two wars we are bogged down in should have taught us some things about jumping to conclusions, especially about the outcome. Maybe we should heal our military, have an exit strategy and have a really good idea about what will be the complications, first. It also might be appropriate to ensure that there's no viable alternative before we pull another trigger.

"The US is not interested in peace for the whole world. "

Of course not. We're one of the world's five largest arms dealers. World peace is bad for business.

I don't care about any "dream team" or watever. The roots of this terror tree are in P-stan. Let us hit them where THEY live, sleep, eat. I bet A-stan becomes a more stable place. The P-stani's claim of "sovereignty" is a joke. Bomb the madrossa's, hit the camps, let us take the fight to them. Haqqani and Hekmatyr and Co are irreconciliable, so they must be ELIMINATED. Let us off the leash Pres. OBAMA

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 12/02/2008 1:21:40 AM

"OBAMA "HAS HIS DREAM TEAM""(eddiewhere 2008).. I am surprise that no one has used this term. I am sure I will hear it tomorrow. OBAMA HAS SELECTED HIS DREAM TEAM. THIS TEAM HAS ALL STAR CREDENTIALS. EACH OF THEM ARE HALL OF FAMERS. HILLARY, GATES, RAHM.
HOPEFULLY, THIS DREAM TEAM WILL KEEP THEIR EYES ON THE REAL THREAT RUSSIA AND CHINA. These two countries have already launched a very successful CYBER WAR against AMERICA. They are able to spy on our networks and steal our technological secrets and our patented software.
RUSSIA, INDIA AND CHINA ARE THE SUPERPOWERS OF THAT SIDE OF THE WORLD. They are the key to a multinational strategy. Managing these realtionships is like walking a tight rope(eddiewhere 2008). China and India are always at odds and have a delicate relationship to say the least. I know ZaKaria wrote an article on this relationship six months ago. He needs to write another one.
Another situation that needs to be monitored closely is ORGANIZED CRIME IN EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, ESPECIALLY when it comes to cyber crime and nuclear weapons. These Eastern European countries are a potential conduit for passing NUKES to terrorists.

These Terrorists will be based in the Five MUSLIM breakaway REpublics in Central ASIA( Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistanan) . They can potentially form an alliance with China, who has a long history of strained relationships with INDIA. To the MUslims India is an enemy and a traitor. Remeber how Hitler rose to power, a depressed economy in EUROPE. THESE REPUBLICS in Central Asia have all the same elements.. Russia and CHina will form an alliance based on their mutual FRICTION with INDIA(WHO IS CHALLENGING TO BE THEY PREMIER SUPERPOWER IN ASIA).

LOOSE NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE FORMER SOVIET REPUBLICS IS A BIG PROBLEM BECAUSE ORGANIZED CRIME GROUPS IN EASTERN EUROPE CAN GAIN ACCESS to them and sell them to terrorists.
THE ALLIANCE BETWEEN THE 5 MUSLIM STATES IN CENTRAL , AND CHINA IS A Big Threat.

"OBAMA IS NOW THE WORLD"S FIRST PRESIDENT" eddiwhere 2008.. CAN HE SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE RELATIONSHIPS WITH RUSSIA AND CHINA INORDER TO PREVENT THESE FIVE MUSLIM REPUBLICS FROM SLIPPING DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO ECONOMIC DEPRESSION. ONCE AGAIN REMEMBER HOW HITLER ROSE TO POWER A DEPRESSED ECONOMY IN GERMANY WHO WAS TORCHERED ECONOMICALLY AFTER WORLD WAR ONE BY THE ALLIES RUSSIA, FRANCE AND BRITAIN. RUSSIA IS DOING THE SAME TO ITS FORMER REPUBLICS UKRAINE ect.....

OBAMA IS LIKE THE COACH OF THE DREAM TEAM(BASKETBALL) TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT HE HAS A PLAN TO MAKE JORDON, BIRD AND MAGIC WORK TOGETHER AS ONE FORCE TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. OR LEBRON, KOBY AND PAUL PIERCE. I AM SURE HE CAN AND WILL DO JUST FINE AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE THE ENVY OF THE WORLD AGAIN.

OBAMA HAS HIS DREAM TEAM AND ALL THE TOOLS FOR A MUCH NEEDED GLOBAL STRATEGY.
LET's ANTICIPATE THE NEXT POTENTIAL AFGHANISTAN and NIP THEM IN THE BUD BEFORE IT BLOSSOMS

  • Posted By: sieg6529 @ 12/01/2008 10:49:00 AM

yes, we should have left Afganistan the country alone after 9/11. The atrocities of 9/11 were crimes, not acts of war, and they should have been pursued as such. The scale of the crime does not make it something else. The other problems in Afganistan are their own problems.

    • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/01/2008 8:08:49 PM

I disagree. The rulers in Afghanistan sheltered and supported OBL before and after the 911 attacks.

They didn't get half the kicking around they deserved.

    • Posted By: Skypoint @ 12/01/2008 11:35:55 AM

Under normal circumstances, we would have been able to work with a country that had terrorists working within its borders, such as England or France. However that wasn't possible with the ruling party of Afghanistan, as they supported OBL and the attack on America.

We tried it your way for eight years under Clinton, and Al-Qaeda simply got stronger. Bin Laden had to be stopped... he had a protective government and an endless supply of hate filled monsters to attack us at will. The result is we haven't had an attack on our soil since we went after them. If we had not have gone into Afghanistan, we will still be getting attacked on a regular basis as we were then.

Obama administration must stay out of this " COUNTRIES BITTER RIVALY CONFLICTS" ,USA must start to adopts RIGHT and FIX USA foreign policy ,As the Real VICTIMS always the Average Americans be facing as targets anywhere they go, by facing the enemy of barbaric ,fanantic INVISIBLE DEVILS,unlike convention war that we can face on, either from the India Nationalist Terrorist or Pakistan Terrorist .This Policy goes with Middle -East with Israelis-Palestine Conflicts.....DONT TAKE side on anyone and be Prejudice,So Ordinary Americans dont have to suffers from all this INVISIBLE DEVILS.
