Yes and while I hate to generalize it seems these people fail over and over again to come up with anything constructive yet sit back gleefully while the US goes through an economic downturn. Ive got news for you Russia and China arent exactly prospering. In fact many think they esp. Russia are in worst long-term shape then the US. While almost ALL agree that the EU and Britain are in for a longer downward ride as well. So my advice to these people is stop copying and pasting the same anti-American comments on every single article that you deem relevant. It only furthers negative opinions of you. Go F%^% a camel. Sorry immature but couldnt help myself.

Haass says: ???As goes China, so go 1.3 billion ??? one out of every five people on the planet. Americans must accept China's rise. Think of it as "integration" ??? integrating China into the highest councils ??? make China a pillar of a globalized world.??? Yes?

His insistence is incessant but he offers no case to support his stance, nothing but fear of China. The fear is understandable and reality-based but there are many who posit the opposite, that Is - it is better to intend the fragmentation of China and the re-formation of its parts. That is to say- it is NOT advisable to ???integrate??? either our beloved Republic or the global marketplace with such an brutal, racist (Han) and ideological monolith.

The article begins to conclude with the reasonable ideas of ???consultations??? and ???build a relationship,??? which we all might support, but then Haass makes the word ???integration??? reappear to one more time to confound the issue..

Rather than ???acceptance??? and ???integration??? with such a beast, let the world???s democracies in congress continue to idealize a downsized so-called People???s Republic and a Reformation there. Lest we be swamped by totalitarianism, we must absolutely NOT ???accept??? integration with China as it is. Yet, the author???s one and only insupportable solution is a combo of acceptance and integration arising out of an abundance of fear!

If it is so that China's military is still a generation behind America's, does the author really think a generation is such a long time? It???s just about a generation since the U.S. ???accepted??? the Reaganist dogma of selfish libertarianism, and look at the mess we are in now. I know that???s another matter altogether, just choking, but I mention it to recall what national disasters can happen in just one generation when a nation ???accepts??? the necessity of accommodation to a governing ideology.

One will look to the author in the future to approach the China question with a bit more perspicacity. Surely, all can accept the simple mindedness of positing a bipolar world where we only get to choose between isolation or integration.

    Up the Republic!. Sincerely

Wow, everytime the topic China popped up in the western media, there will be angry Indian nationalists barking about how great India is in the discussion thread. Yea, yea, the same old propaganda "India is a democracy, India has a younger population" blah blah. So when are Indians going to give some contribution to the world, instead of bragging about itself.
India is doing nothing to help the financial crisis. Why? Because India does not have the cash for it. Its running a huge deficit with underfunded health care system. Sure, Indians recently bragged about fighting pirates which turned out to be a huge joke since its navy mistakenly burned a Thai ship.

The truth is Indians are simply angry over westerners' attention to China and feel a need to put down China to feel good about itself.

Yes, remove Rusia, invite China. It also be nice to put them against each other.
By the way, last time I heard China economy was 1/4 of USA, not 1/2.

China has an imperistic past but she does not has an imperistic bend. China has proven herself to be a remarkably benign power for thousands of years in her own world. It will be really out of character for China to be hegemonistic if China becomes a global power.

I think a strong and confident China should have a calming and soothing effect to the world at large. This is a prediction I make and I hope I am right.
