Opening the door to Cuban relations could lead to a new view of the United States thoughout our neigbors to the south. The free market disregarding a countries political makeup has succeeded world wide. Why not in Cuba and Latin America?

It's about time we normalized relations with Cuba. They've been in the dog house forever, and maybe changing course will open the door for real change in Cuba. I know boosting their economy will help the people, and I'd like to order some good cigars as well lol...

Agreed. They're probably waiting for Fidel to go. Maybe it was the missles, and we want to scare others. We normalized with Viet Nam having lost many and killed many times more civilians that we lost soldiers. Normalization would benefit both countries, and would be a good step for us and our national psyche. Thanks for the comment. On the cigars Fuente Don Carlos from the Dominican Republic are better than any Cuban in my book...

Cuba is welcome to keep Obama when he goes down there!

Why? You looking forward to President Biden?

Normalization was inevitable, I just didn't want Castro to live to see it.

Normalization of diplomatic ties with Cuba are long overdue. I for one am glad to see a President who will do the right thing and bring ALL of the Americas to the table and begin a partnership free from old worn out bias.

It seems strange to me that we have normal diplomatic and full economic relations with Vietnam, where we lost over 55,000 American troops, but that we continue to have no relations and an embargo with a next-door neighbor that we have an interest in not becoming another Caribbean economic basket-case.

There is no reason to have Cuba "off-limits" to Americans. We are buddies with Russia and China, but not little Cuba. All theat we are doing is helping Cubans to starve and live a meager life. Isn't that what we blame all those other countries for?

Obama han do this without serious political fallout because if he is successful in bringing the economy back, he will win in a landslide in 2012. A few dissidents in Florida will notmatter.

If we could open the doors between our two countries again, all would benefit.

Candidate Obama and the Democratic Party committed themselves to "unlimited travel and remittances" for Cuban Americans. He also has the power to provide a similar general license to eleven other categories of non-tourist travel, including religious, humanitarian, educational, cultural, sports and "support for the Cuban people". http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/obamacuba/
