While I oppose Newsweek Muslim terrorists leaning thoughts (third one in 2 days) I have to admit Indians need to show better action if they need to sustain their growing economy.
Problem is that it is not just the govt, the trouble goe sall the way down to low paid police people, who probably did not do their jobs. First of all it shows that they did not have enough planning to combat such an emergency , which people think can happen any time, esp with all the history of violence. When the Pakistani Jihadis landed in the Beach, the fisherman informed the police post, but the local police did not alert anybody else. The attack started in an hour, and if alerted they could have deployed some Force. These rascals who did not do their job became part of the terrorists when they failed to do their jobs. Were they also a part of the plan really, who knows? These militants definitely had plenty of help from inside too. What a sorry tale of incompetance! These guys like to win elections by accusing other parties of communalism while they mascarade as secularists. Their only bonafide in this regard is their legislation termed Hindu code bill and Hindu women's rights act etc no "Indian" only "hindu". Why? Because if you forbid muslims from marrying three wives they will vote against you and if you protect Muslim women and guarentee their alimony when divorced the mullas will get angry and ask their congregation to vote against you. There is luckily no such organisation among Hindus and hence reform them at least. What a logic these perverts have. Since independance 60 years ago their only goal is to win election - this by counting the vote pools and catering to them. Corruption and despotism and ineptitude at all levels are rampant as is well expressed in this article. There is only that much the private sector can do and with a government such as we have in India we have to be happy with what little we have provided by the industrious private sector. Hopefully one day the Indian public will rise up to the occassion and take the leadership. India has no mechanism for a Barak Obama emerging easily. But hopefully democracy will work and Indians will demand change.

In hindsight this was a wake up call to cocky Indian commandos who usually view Western counterparts as paper tigers. They need to focus more on training and equipment more than caching a government check every month. Asking chefs for floor plans shows who stands where! Total lack of planning and the continued laid back approach of the Indian bureaucracy was more shocking than the terrorist attack.

Immediate reports indicate there were 15-20 attackers. Are the weapons they were armed with freely available in India or were they smuggled in? Were the attackers trained in India as were the Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups in the 1980s? In the case of the Tamils such training and arming were sanctioned by the Indian government or state governments with the knowledge of the central authorities.

When I read Sudip Mazumdar, my belief in the Newsweek's intellect and journalistic professionalism gets reassured. I see a lot of clarity and preciseness of thought in Mazumdar's writing and analysis. At the same time, however, I am stunned to see the intellectual bankruptcy of Newsweek when they publish amateur reports by novices like Jayshree Bajoria on the web. She might be a veteran journalist, but her analysis and writing do not synchronize with her reports.

West-oriented civilizations, and eastern civilizations are totally diffferent. For one very important fact, weterners have to realize that a human life, be it them or us, is of absolutely NO value. In order to combat these terrorist cells, it is paramount to comprehend this.

This is a real shame. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. Definitely a failure of the government and that needs to be addressed.

Western civilizations need to learn that the value of a life to these type of people is absolutely nothing.

One thing about this article seems to not match reports in the Times of India for example.

The top three law enforcemnt personnel who were killed were never according to reports killed at the same location as this article claims.

Can somone clarify this?
