we have made many mistakes internationally but the biggest mistake is taking the wealth of the American taxpayer and giving it to countries who not only don't thank us, but hate us. We don't need Obama and his merry men and women giving even more or our wealth away. Our government should do the bidding of the American people, not the political hacks in Washington and certainly not the corrupt UN. We do need a fresh start, one that says we will help our real friends and the hell to everyone else. I don't want to invade any countries like Iraq or Iran, but I also don't want to feed the animals in North Korea who just want to kill us. Le't's just stop foreign aid to our enemies like Egypt and see how long they can last on their own.

John, in your article your write, "But Aspin's choices were all middle-aged white men (he failed to persuade a black woman he'd long admired to become general counsel). Once in office, the Clinton White House wanted an administration filled with bright young faces meeting what it called the EGG criteria: ethnicity, gender and geography."

This is a glaring example of blatant reverse discrimination.

Why is this practice accepted as a normal? The converse of the statement would bring calls of racism and demands for apologies, reparations, and healing. It appears that if you do not meet the EGG selection criteria then your role is to sit in the back of the bus and be quiet.

Well, sure. It would be a damn shame to represent a cross-section of American demographics, wouldn't it? LOL.

Well said - Until we start treating each other equally racism will never disapear. This includes holding people accountable for their actions as human beings. I am tired of minorities getting a pass on Racism by white elitist. They should find another way to make the silver spoon in their mouth feel less guilty.

It was my impression during the campaign that CHANGE was the goal rather than reverting to 60 year old "post WWII tradition". U.S. policy needs to be based upon NEW millenia, post 9/11 LOGIC.

Why? "Post 911 logic" seems to be "flail around at random, and be an alarmist."

So the recommendation is for President Obama to push "grand initiatives" (read "meaningless initiatives") instead of just doing what needs to be done? That's not the kind of thinking that got him elected. I'm willing to bet that he's smarter than that.

    Mr. Barry:

If you know so much, I'm truly shocked that you weren't picked for the cabinet. Or, that you didn't get a write in nomination for presidency...

    LOL.
