Pakistan is a failed state, it is a perfect basket case which is surviving on bits and pieces thrown its way by US for its war on terror or by begging at IMF. The civilized world has to realize that Pakistan is not part of the solution on curbing terrorism but in fact is the problem itself. It is a known fact for all security agencies in the world that Pakistan is the Mecca for terrorism and it houses "prominent personalities" such as Bin Laden, Ayman Zawahiri et al who are the high priests of terrorism. The radicals coming out of Pakistan's terror universities that have hit India last week might do the same elsewhere, then what do we do? Appease these nutjobs?practise restraint? Islamic/Moslem terrorism will not stop until the terror networks in Pakistan along with their ISI patrons are dismantled and destroyed. The funding of this terror which comes largely from Saudi Arabia and our petro dollars for this "ally" should also stop, we should invest more on green fuels and rejoice every time oil price falls down.

Thanks for a well balanced, informative article! It is clear that indians did have prior warning of the attack. But
they have fallen into a lazy habit of blaming their own incompetence on their favorite whipping boy Pakistan.
In a recent report BBC said that in Iraq, since the surge, civilian deaths have fallen to "only 200 per month."
There we have world's the best equipped army in the world trying to prevent attacks against the Iraqis
and still "200 per month" are getting killed. 45 got killed today alone. Are we supposed to assume
that the US army is not trying hard enough to keep the Iraqis safe? Or it is just an impossible task?
I mean, could Columbine have been anticipated and prevented? The Pakistani Army and security forces
have been at the receiving end of terrorist attacks themselves(presumeably sponsored by RAW), how are
they supposed to police Mumbai for Indians?

How can journalists use India and Pakistan in the same breath?
Pakistan ISI is responsible for harboring terrorist based organisations
these are responsible for 1) a million Kashmiri pandits( who are Hindus) to leave Kashmir since 1990
    2) attack on indian parliament
    3) hijakc of airplane to Kandahaar in 1998
    4) Kargil war in 1998, they warred against Indian army along the border of Pakistan( and is Pakistan innocent here?)
    5) Train bomb in Mumbai in 2006 killing 200+ people
    6) N Number of explosions in public places throughout major indian cities since last year

India has provided the evidence to media and Pakistan government

And coming to Pakistan blaming India. Do they have proof for that? They can never prove the accusations they make.

Pakistan is sibling of India. India never wanted Muslims to leave their country. It was Muslims led by Jinnah who left India to have a separate country their heaven. And it they who have problems with India.

What mutual trust?? Wake up and smell the coffee. When terrorists rooted in Afghanistan struck on 9/11, was the US supposed to start building trust with the Afghan government? Was it supposed to start building goodwill for a common good? The US sent in troops, and rightly so. Every country has the right to defend itself.

What mutual trust?? Wake up and smell the coffee. When terrorists rooted in Afghanistan struck NYC on 9/11, was the US supposed to start learning to build trust with the Afghan government?

Here we go again. Another sermon.

It would be best if Western powers kept away and let India tackle the matter as it sees it.

Iraq has shown us what a mess the Western powers can make in Asian matters.

If needs be, let there be a war. At least, it will be a Asian mess, not an American one.

Pakistan's military and intelligence which call the shots are making the weak civil leadership sing the same tune that they so successfully sang post 9/11 - promising cooperation while playing for time and looking to gain from the situation. India knows this, I am not so sure the U.S for all its might and intelligence truly knows this. I am pessimistic that anything new will be done - India will play up the Pakistan factor neglecting its own weak ability to retaliate, the U.S will put pressure on Pakistan to spit out a few fall men, and we'll go on our merry way, until the next heinous attack in India. I'd love to be proved wrong, of course.

There is no way that Pakistani civil government can take action as it doesn't have any real power over the military. Pak Military and ISI are supporting LET and Jaish so it is hard to beleive the Pakistan Govt words. We can trust them only based on actions. They need to dismantle the training camps and they need to hand over Dawood. If these things are happening then YES we can trust them.

Elements in ISI are involved in terrorist activity. An ex-soldier from Pakistan trained the terrorists. How can Indian intelligence be expected to share information with such a dangerous country.
