As the author of a book on elder abuse, I have some warnings for boomers; I am one myself. Do, by all means, stay closer to your parents and your children. Please educate yourself about elder abuse...it's an exploding pandemic in our country. One in six will be victims (or more) and educate your family. Elder abuse
has many faces and it may not be what you think it is. Twenty million dollars A DAY is pilfered off the elderly in California ALONE. Please use your power to stop a human rights violation and tell your family about the dangers that will plague our generation. This is a war we can win on the ground right here in America and the casualty are enormous. Please get involved. Thanks

According to the NY Times article in last Sunday's paper, 40% of caregivers are now men. In a society where elder abuse and exploitation are a cottage industry, we boomers need awareness and we do need to stay close by our parents. We are a powerful and educated generation and it's up to us to carry infomation about many things back in to the nuclear family. We need to clse ranks, act together, keep America a peaceful nation and spearhead a movement towards making elder abuse a human rights violation. Boomers, the life you save may be your own since more than one-in-six will be victims of elder abuse.

    You can't be serious!

I don't believe that quoting a builder of communities hoping to cater to attracting retirees has any credibility.

Go back and do some research

Six monrths ago I might have agreed. Today, no. Many of these that are in their early sixties and who have ben religiously putting their money into a retirement investment portfolio hav een the value of that portfolio reduced by up to 40% or more in the last 90 days, I am one of them. I had planned or retireing but now with the loss of my investments at 40% and a good chance losing a great deal more as this recesion deepens I will no longer be able to retire. MY American Dream vanished. The pople who I relly see hurting the most are those in the 65+ range who had depended on their retirement investments for a liveable revenue stream only now to see their years and years of saving vanish. What a shame.
