We should have the constitution amended and get rid of the power of the president to pardon. This is the most archaic feudal law ever written. The president is not a feudal lord, a power unto himself where he can arbitrarily pardon anyone he pleases without any reason or justification. The writers of the constiturion must have been drinking heavily when they wrote this part of the constitution. The problem is that the political elite of this country have problem never sat down and actually discussed or debated the merits of the constitution.

What's going on with the Birds? First, they bring humankind the bird flu, then they force to land a US Airways on New York's Hudson River, then they force a Little Rock Arkansas Baptist Health Center helicopter also to land. Are they trying to regain control of the world? According to Aristophanes' "The Birds" (414 B.C), they once ruled the world.

Bush will pardon himself and his buddies (from future prosecution)... watch for it, yes, he CAN do that

  • Posted By: SpectreWriter @ 12/13/2008 5:05:28 PM

I'd let John Walker Lindh off the hook. He was young, impressionable, and suddenly found himself in the middle of a war zone, where guys who just happened to be wearing US uniforms were shooting live rounds and dropping bombs in his direction. Putting his hands up and yelling out "Wait, I'm American" would have had him dead from BOTH sides, so what else could anyone expect the guy to do? He didn't shoot any Americans, and it shouldn't be illegal to go over to a country just because it's not currently popular. Hell, a decade earlier, Rummy was shaking hands with the SOB (S.Hussein). 20 years is literally ridiculous. The guy's life shouldn't be spent over something like this.

Jonma and Widerness, you are both right! Yes, these people have been tried, convicted and sentenced. Now they are hoping to avoid their just punishment because they can hire the 'right' people. There's no pardon for the victims -- why should there be a pardon for the people who are responsible for these victims?

  • Posted By: WidernessVoice @ 12/12/2008 11:20:10 AM

Of course, accountability has been the one word never spoken in the Bush administration. So, it seems only logical that he would not hold these guys accountable. Bush only goes after poor and disidents, not the rich and connected.

  • Posted By: WidernessVoice @ 12/12/2008 11:18:36 AM

This is hilarious! I love posting the odds for these clowns! Sorry, but my sympathy has all been used up for their victims!

The power of presidential pardon is a disgrace to our nation, our citizens and certainly the victems of these criminals.
They have been tried, convicted and sentenced in our courts as proper.
The president is the president...not GOD.
This proceedure should immedeatly be eliminated.

A Merry Christmas to you and your family too! :)

I guess these criminals still think we're in the Clinton era and can buy themselves a free ride. Yeah, good luck to them on that, this guy isn't exactly known for catering in that direction.

    Dear Magic Marker,

I was commenting on Hannah's comments, not yours....

    1. How many independent investigations (bi-partisan initiated) does it take to effectively clear a persons name? - I think 3 should be enough. Don't you think if the Dem's could have directly hurt Bush on this, they would have? - The fact is, i have read up on the Plame issue, and the timeline tracing back to Cheney is not "plausible" - Scooter Libby was convicted of purgery, not outing Plame - The press did that!

    2. There is a difference between knowingly lying to someone, and giving the same information that England, Australia, Germany, and even France was utilizing... Besides, there was a UN resolution to go stop Saddam, it was NOT uni-lateral by the US - We just ended up doing the heavy lifting because the rest of the world leaders knew we would do it!) Here is the bigger point, where did the WMD go? I would suspect it is in the hands of terrorists in the no-mans land of the middle east waiting for the opportunity... There has been numerous attempts around the world to release WMD since 911, and the invasion of Afgan/Iraq. It may not be pretty, nor easy, but the fact of the matter is, unless we stop "safe havens" where we can, we will never be at a minimum of safe.

    3. Thanks for agreeing.

    4. I appreciate your honesty about this, and yes - we should lead the world in world emissions. But to say that Bush is responsible for Global Warming is simple minded, at best...As far as McCain goes, I voted for him, and I was proud to.... I am happy to see Obama is being a realist about the US on the world stage, in regards to some of his appointments. & If he can get some of these nut-jobs to the table, more power to him. - For the most part, the only thing terrorists have wanted is an end to America and all "infidels" - I am not sure where any common ground is.

I love our Country, and the fact we can vigorously debate the issues!

Peace to you & A Merry Christmas (No sarcasm intended, it is a national holiday after all)

Why in hell does a President of the US have the right to release these crooks/criminals in the first place is beyond my comprehension. I know it's in the Constitution, but it should be omitted with an amendment. No one should have a right to forgive or release convicted fellons/criminals out of jail. Period.

  • Posted By: magic_marker @ 12/11/2008 4:15:50 AM

Stieg maybe it is YOU who should get a grip. For starters, no need to use caps - it's bad manners and it looks like you're trying to 'talk' through a bullhorn and drown out people who disagree with you. It even irritates people who might agree with some of what what you say also.

    1. Whether Ms Plame was a 'desk' analyst or not, her 'outing' as a revenge attack on her husband who dared to disagree with the lies being spread by the Office of the Vice President was a serious criminal offense. I'm assuming you are a law abiding citizen and am therefore surprised that this does not bother you.

    2. The war on Iraq was launched on false premises and Congress/Senate were lied to, as indeed was the whole world, when the Bush administration presented its "evidence" of WMD. Was Saddam Hussein a good person, worth defending? No, he was a vile dictator who, yes, used WMD on his own people. Does that make it right for a unilateral war to be launched on false premises and the people of this Nation lied to? Absolutely not. Surely you agree with that.

    3. With regard to Bush's response just after he was told about the Towers, I fully agree with you. I have no idea what people expected him to do; start jumping up and down?? He completed the story, did not frighten the children and excused himself minutes later to attend to that sudden, tragic development.

    4. With regards to air pollution, there's two sides to it. Yes, many countries would be envious of US air quality standards - but it would be pretty poor if kids were dying of cancer from sulphur emissions and lead poisoning in the richest country and most powerful country in the world. Rightly, you point out, we should not forget what we do right. Our Carbon emissions however are fully 25% of the world total! That is FAR too high for the number of people who live in this country; and more importantly we are at the top of our game technologically, and we should be world leaders. I'm tired of having to justify ourselves at bottom of the heap.

... And finally that is why No, I do not think Bush is dumb just completely unsuitable to have lead these United States, as opposed to McCain who is a giant among men and would NEVER have accepted the twisting of the law and the abuses that Bush allowed to be visited upon us all.

    Hannah,

What flavor is your kool - aid?

Your talking points have about 5% truth, and 95% mind numbing delusions.

What is the etc.etc.etc. - Are you going to blame Bush for lowered Gas Prices too?

  • Posted By: Stieg Strand @ 12/10/2008 3:36:10 PM

Hannah, Get a grip... Blow by blow - Here we go... IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE PATRIOT ACT, SINCE IT WAS PASSED YEARS AGO, THERE HAS BEEN NO MAJOR BEEF WITH ANYONE NOT A TERRORIST BEING DENIED DUE PROCESS!, WHO CARES ABOUT VALERIE PLAME - EVEN IF BUSH DID IT - I MEAN REALLY, SHE WAS AT A DESK JOB, SHE WAS NOT "UNDERCOVER!", BESIDES - IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT BUSH KNEW NOTHING BY THREE DIFFERENT SPECIAL PROSECUTORS HIRED BY DEMS! - CONGRESS APPROVED THE WAR IN AFGAN - IRAQ, SHOULD WE HAVE WAITED FOR ANOTHER 911?, WMD FOUND RECENTLY OR NOT, SADDAM HAD THEM FOR MANY YEARS, AND USED THEM ON HIS OWN PEOPLE, AND HE CONSISTENTLY HARBORED TERRORISTS (ALSO A FULLY SANCTIONED UNITED NATIONS ACTION), WHEN BUSH FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE PLANE, YES A FEW MINUTES WENT BYE - DO YOU THINK ANYONE, INCLUDING YOURSELF TRULY AND IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT IT WAS A TERRORIST ATTACK! PLANES HAVE FLOWN INTO BUILDINGS FOR YEARS, AND IT STILL HAPPENS!, BUSH HAS SPENT MORE 4$$$ ON GLOBAL WARMING INITIATIVES THAN BILL CLINTON DID - HE IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE ATMOSPHERIC VIOLATION, THAT IS TRULY INFANTILE AND SIMPLE MINDED TO THINK HE CAN CONTROL HOW MUCH POLLUTION THE FAR EAST PUMPS INTO OUR ATMOSPHERE! - HAVE YOU EVER TRAVELLED? MOST COUNTRIES WOULD BE HAPPY TO HAVE OUR AIR QUALITY!- SIGNING STATEMENTS ARE COMMON, AND HAVE BEEN DONE BY MANY PRESIDENTS, AND IF IT CHANGED THAT MUCH OF SOME BILL/LAW, DON'T YOU THINK CONGRESS WOULD HAVE JUST CHANGED IT BACK? BESIDES OBAMA WANTS A LINE ITEM VETO, WHICH HAS EVEN MORE POWER THAN A SIGNING STATEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So in closing to anyone reading. I have a question - If Bush was/is so diabolically smart to "cover up" all these elicit and abuse of power tactics, why do you still think he is dumb?

  • Posted By: 4Equality @ 12/08/2008 10:31:50 AM

All of them should be Pardoned and Bush should be put in jail, because that is were he belongs.

    • Posted By: jfmccann @ 12/09/2008 4:56:48 PM

Why should Bush be put in Jail?

      • Posted By: Hannah B @ 12/10/2008 2:33:45 PM

Because he eviscerated the Constitution; he tortured people; he probably ordered the outing an undercover agent, or at a minimum covered it up; he is responsible for sending 4,000+ to their death in Iraq for no righteous reason in his war of choice; he continued reading stories to school kids while towers fell (of which he was forwarned but did nothing); he is permitting the violation of our atmosphere; he changed numerous items passed by congress with his signing statements; he politicized the Justice department; etc. etc. etc.
