Maybe Obama will give him a pardon for the war crimes.

    • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/04/2008 9:06:01 PM

And what war crimes would those be?

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 12/05/2008 11:58:54 AM

How about holding hundreds of detainees, essentially POWs, without charging them for 6 years? That's criminal behavior in any civilized country and a violation of the Geneva convention. How about lying about WMDs and executing the leader of another country? Saddam Hussein was a terrible leader, but he posed no threat to us until Bush dreamed up his little Bush Doctrine. And he absolutely DID lie about WMDs. He read the intelligence report that found no evidence of WMDs in April, then only admitted he knew it in August. 4 months of pure lies.

        • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 2:46:26 PM

Gitmo detainees have no Geneva rights, as we were not attacked by any one nation, or by any military armed forces. We didn't violate the Geneva Convention. Over two hundred have been released, some of what's left do not want to be sent home for fear of being tortured or killed, and still others can't leave because no country wants them.

If Bush lied about WMD's, then so did every one of these people, all of them from the Democrat party:

"Gitmo detainees have no Geneva rights, as we were not attacked by any one nation, or by any military armed forces."

According tot he GC, ANY person taken under arms has the rights and privileges of the GC, until a competent tribunal determines that they are not lawful combatants. Even then, they are afforded some protections (though the penalty for unlawful combat is typically death).

            • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 3:06:47 PM

We were not attacked by any military armed forces. The Geneva Convention doesn't cover criminals.

              • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 3:10:05 PM

Actually, it covers anyone taken under arms by the military of any signatory nation under and circumstances (and gives the means to deal with criminals).

Try googling the actual text, instead of relying upon opinion journal.

I have looked at it. I may have missed it, but I didn't see anything in there regarding your quote. Do you have a link for that? BTW, The Geneva Convention has applied to the Taliban prisoners since 2002, but not Al Qaeda prisoners, as Afghanistan is party to the GC.

                  • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 4:37:45 PM

                    "Article 5

The present Convention shall apply to the persons referred to in Article 4 from the time they fall into the power of the enemy and until their final release and repatriation.

Should any doubt arise as to whether persons, having committed a belligerent act and having fallen into the hands of the enemy, belong to any of the categories enumerated in Article 4, such persons shall enjoy the protection of the present Convention until such time as their status has been determined by a competent tribunal."

                    We didn't do that.

                    • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 5:50:01 PM

Fine, except Al Qaeda terrorists don't fall into category four.

                      • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/08/2008 11:16:37 AM

Good enough. Now re-read the last paragraph of article 5. You saying so means nothing. A competent tribunal is required.

                      • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 6:09:22 PM

                        That's article 4.

          • Posted By: summer4077 @ 12/05/2008 4:24:17 PM

One thing I've never completely understood is the Dem/Republican who-is-more-evil argument. I think everyone can agree that politicians in general are lying bloodsuckers who have duped us all. There are a few who have good intentions--I believe Obama is one and also that McCain is one. However, people like Bush and Cheney...I just think they were motivated by their own personal interests.

          • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 2:55:27 PM

"If Bush lied about WMD's, then so did every one of these people, all of them from the Democrat party"

            Good. Prosecute them, too.

            • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 3:03:45 PM

The reason Bush or any of the people in that article won't be prosecuted is because none of them lied. We know this because Nancy Pelosi would have impeached Bush in a heartbeat if she could have.

              • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 3:11:12 PM

Hardly. The majority of the dems would have laughed her out of the building, as they were too busy lapping up the pork that Bush was all too happy to sign for, provided he got to continue giving money to his pals at Halliburton.

He needs to move to a desert in Iraq and live like all the natives in the heat with no water and electricity and using his fingers to wipe off his tushie after doing a number 2. I'm sure Laura would get off on that...since she must be a total mazohist still being with him. I mean if he is such a patriot he should set an example and move there........

Nobody seems to be discussing the article. I just feel sorry for the neighbors. There goes the neighborhood! It's ruined, no more privacy, secret service etc. Poor guy has to go somewhere. Bush always lands on his feet.

    • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/07/2008 12:03:31 PM

I wouldn't feel sorry for his neighbors. Bush has bought the property next door, which the article says will house the Secret Service. Both properties back up to Tom Hick's property, whom Bush was friends and partners with when he co owned the Texas Rangers. As far as the Secret Service goes, they're practically invisible. The neighbors will benefit from living in probably the most secure neighborhood in the nation.

This is a most disengeneous comment. A huge portion of the CITY of Dallas is black and no matter what his poitics, blacks would vote for the black candidate and for a Democrat. A large part of the very large Hispanic poulation also votes Democrat (not the same as democratic). North Dallas, where he will reside, almost certainly was overwhelmingly (your word) for RED. The issue probably has a large racial component. But we all share the same place, even though we do not agree on some subjects. I have been to other large US cities that are even more polarized by ethnic group than Dallas. Besides, if necessary, shouldn't we be strong enough to live where our views are opposed?

    • Posted By: Yuseff @ 12/05/2008 3:05:52 PM

Black people don't always vote for the Black candidate. A very large portion of Black people were Hiliary supporters and only switched to Obama after he won Iowa.

  • Posted By: ok4u @ 12/05/2008 1:06:04 PM

I'm sure all this has SOMETHING to do with Bush buying a house.

    • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 2:58:33 PM

I say we give him a house. The Big House. For the rest of his natural life.

  • Posted By: DrewCAENG @ 12/05/2008 7:55:17 AM

According to Bush in 2006 he had a mandate after the election at he only won that by 1-2% so I guess 57% is overwhelming. 57% in CA not overwhelming, 57% in TX = overwhelming.

I think there is an impressive peice of real-estate in cuba that would be better fitted for Bush and his whole staff.

    • Posted By: Shanshayla @ 12/05/2008 8:51:16 AM

Cuba? Such a little hater. And no matter how you slice it, 57 percent isn't overwhelming. Reagan's win over Mondale? Now that was overwhelming.

      • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 12/05/2008 10:45:17 AM

Maybe you should look at it in this perspective. Getting 57% of the vote over a Republican Party that used lies, distortions and hate as their Campaign Platform is pretty special and overwhelming. Couple that with the gains in the Senate and House and it becomes a tremendous victory. If you don't agree, that's ok. In 2010 we'll take 3 to 5 more Senate seats and more when we re-elect Barack Obama in 2012. It will continue on and on. By 2020 the defunct GOP party of hate will be claiming that it's 3rd place finish to the new Independent Moderate Party wasn't overwhelming either. Life is Good and God is Good!

        • Posted By: ok4u @ 12/05/2008 1:54:13 PM

Dream on about taking more seats. btw, Independent Moderate is an oxymoron. Independents think for themselves. Moderates wait to see what everyone else is doing.

          • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 2:57:43 PM

What an interesting description of "moderate". What moderate means is one who isn't on the extreme of any issue.

I can see why that attitude would annoy you extremists, though.

      • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 10:20:34 AM

So Bush lied about his "mandate"? Is that what you're saying?

  • Posted By: diggyzazz @ 12/04/2008 8:45:31 PM

So, the average IQ in Dallas County can be expected to go down several points after January.

    • Posted By: Shanshayla @ 12/04/2008 9:09:56 PM

By your calculations, it may go up.... Bush's IQ is 122, slightly higher than average.

      • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 12/05/2008 2:10:10 AM

According to Bush's National guard records his IQ is 90

        • Posted By: Shanshayla @ 12/05/2008 8:43:46 AM

I'm sure you have a link for that. You can't learn to fly fighters without reasonable high intelligence.

          • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 10:21:42 AM

Maybe that's why he never soloed.

            • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 2:53:16 PM

Of course he soloed. He flew both two seat and single seat fighters.

          • Posted By: summer4077 @ 12/05/2008 9:33:33 AM

Agreed. The claim that Bush's IQ is 91 has been widely debunked--a quick check on Snopes and Google proves that. I'm no fan of Bush's by any means but the man's not stupid. He's just too stubborn to admit when he's wrong and also let Cheney take too much control.

            • Posted By: Repubssuck @ 12/05/2008 10:00:33 AM

Stupid is such a relative term. Bush is educated but lacks the ability to make an intelligent analysis and therefore make a rational decision. whether educated or not, it never prohibited him from making stupid moves that nearly destroyed our Country's Fiscal and Foriegn Policy well-being. As forest Gump said: Stupid is, as Stupid Does. Never more true than with the Bush/Cheney Administration and the GOP Party of Hate.

              • Posted By: summer4077 @ 12/05/2008 11:59:12 AM

True, I agree with both you and Doc. Although he's not stupid on paper, his arrogance has led him to make stupid decisions. He lacks the ability to see long-term ramifications and the effects our actions have on a global scale.

            • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 12/05/2008 10:22:19 AM

"He's just too stubborn to admit when he's wrong "

That is one definition of stupid.

  • Posted By: outtadabox @ 12/04/2008 8:05:23 PM

Bush ruined the economy to garner a great price and low interest rates just in time to buy his retirement home. Wise beyond his years!

    • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/04/2008 8:28:47 PM

Where do you get this stupid nonsense? Bush and McCain tried to stop the economic mess were in beginning in 2001, by bringing legislation to congress to stop Fannie/Freddie fiasco. It was blocked by democrat 'geniuses' Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Do a search and let yourself out of the dark.

      • Posted By: Aldous21 @ 12/04/2008 9:08:22 PM

I suggest YOU do some research instead of drinking the Republican Kool-Aid. Republicans have been deregulating everything since the FDR Era.

If the Repugs were so against the Fannie/Freddie Deal, why didn't they change the law to stop them?

Republicans had the Presidency and the majority in Congress. If ever there was time to push legislation through it was then. Can't blame Dems. Actually, it was Congress--both Republican and Democratic--that failed us. Politicians in general are slime, regardless of affiliation.
"But Congress failed to listen, and the Bush administration lacked the political muscle to pressure it to do so. Instead of reining in the GSEs, powerful members of Congress put pressure on Fannie and Freddie to massively expand investment in financially risky "affordable" housing projects from 2005 to 2007, ultimately triggering the GSEs' collapses. Irresponsible politicians ??? not "market failure" ??? bear primary blame for these financial disasters."
            http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/24/whitewashing-fannie-freddie/

            • Posted By: Vypurr @ 12/05/2008 2:24:18 PM

Actually, the dems have controlled congress since 2006. However, Bush took legislation twelve times to congress since 2001 to reign in Fannie and Freddie from making risky loans. McCain once in 2006. They were the only two who could see the train wreck coming. The others either couldn't or wouldn't see the incredible mess we were getting into. I do agree that it took both parties to get here. The President couldn't get enough votes even when the reps controlled congress.

It's not unusual for the Republicans to blame the Democrats for Republican failures. they have been doing this for years with the abortion issue. Every election cycle the Republicans sell the Ban Abortion issue to their supporters, Saying, elect them and they will overturn Roe and return the issue to State control. From 2001 to 2006 the Republicans held the Presidency, majorities in the Senate and Congress and had the majority on the Supreme Court. There can be no dispute about that. So why wasn't any legislation proposed to make abortion illegal? Why wasn't a case bought before the Supremes to overturn current law? Here's why! The day that abortion is not an election issue will be the day that Republicans will have lost the main tool that energizes their base. Most of the Right to Lifers, which I'm one of, are regular working middle-class people who would become Democrats. The main issues would swing to economics and the right to lifers would flee from the party of hate and the rich in a heartbeat, so to speak. I could go on to explain the reasons that Democrats are responsible for decreasing the abortion rate and Republicans responsible for it's increase but maybe another time .

Canada is on the verge of civil war. The United States is in turmoil because of the economy and the wars. Mexico has been suffering for as long as anyone can remember due to poverty and injustice. World leaders are doing a real fine job. They are just puppets for the super wealthy that put money into there campaigns. In the last 8 years assets has been vacuumed up from the middle class to the upper class. What made America great was the strength of the middle class that is gone now. In just 4 short years America could become like Mexico.

dis-information spewing idiots. Lets see the real news. Why american service men and wemen have to risk there lives for the sake of big oil. Why the bankers get a bailout blank check and the auto makers have to bendover and get a beating and get sent home with nothing. Who has done more to help the economy the bankers or the automakers that a no brainer. Why are the drug companies making billions on drugs that make people die sooner like statins. Because big oil, and the super wealthy want it that way. To get real news and truth you have to dig because the media is owned by them and they control what you get in the mainstream media even newsweek is not telling the real story.
