I would sure like to know WHERE Newsweek did their polling. If any of you believe their results I have some beach front property in Arizona you'll be interested in purchasing.

I agree with timebomb123 . How can you compare this to Black Civil Rights? NOT EVEN CLOSE! Now the gays want to play sports so they can check out other men's Ding Dongs in the showers. Its disgusting!

Thou doth protest too much, Tony. Hiding some feelings there, are ya?

And for the record, Twinkies are much more enjoyable.

To RealNEMom....What a beautiful warm letter you wrote about your daughter. It was so well put that I am copying it. I too have a gay daughter who has had many problems growing up due to the fact that she is gay. She knew at a very young age and wanted to play mostly with boys. I have another daughter who is very feminine and have always loved boys. They are both angels and it is so unfair that my oldest one has to suffer so much just because she happens to fall in love with girls instead of boys. It has always come natural to her, even though she too dated boys in school, just to try to be like the other girls, and hoping that she would find something about them that would make her fall in love. It never happened. People have to be who they really are and for others to alienate them for that is in my opinion a great sin.

Keep supporting your daughters as any good parent would - we all know that a parent's unconditional love has everything to do with emotional health. I hope that if my daughter someday wants to be married to someone, that nothing will prevent her from receiving the same rights as her married straight sister has - if she needs to have a religious ceremony, I hope that there will be a church that will allow her that sacrament - if she and her loved one prefer a civil ceremony, I hope she will have access to that right. The minister who married her father and me and baptized our children, by the way, is gay - he is retired now but was adored by his congregation all during his decades of service. It is ridiculous to even have to point that out - but, for those of you who do not understand, I will also point out that his congregation was in a big city in a huge influential church - not some radical under the radar self-appointed ministry. So, I hope that your daughter finds some comfort in you letting her know that there are millions of families like yours and millions of parents like we are and that the best thing she can do is surround herself with loving friends and family. Are gay activists (brow beaters) necessary? Yes, they are - would I support my daughter if she felt it necessary to speak out louder than she already does? Yes, I would - just like my parents supported my involvement in the civil rights and peace movement s in the 1960s. But, right now, we are just enjoying a normal and healthy relationship with all of our kids - we likely have more open conversations than some folks, but I bet we have more fun.

Yes...now the gays expect to be treated to the birthright of their citizenship. How disgusting!

This is as disgusting as not allowing the people to vote on the rights of the willfully ignorant - like TonyK101 here. . .who obviously should never be entrusted with making a contract with the state for marriage - or for creating children. America doesn't need to promote more willful ignorance.

What? "The gays" EXPECT to be treated to the birthright of their citizenship......How disgusting"""".

What a moronic statement! The last time I checked our Constitution, ALL MEN are created equal... It's too bad that got lost among the Christian "rightgiving" that you seem to feel entitled to by being one!

If 10% of 1000 equals 100 but 40% of 100 equals 40 then yes you have more of one than the other but one group has a higher rate of offending. Figures never lie but liars figure!

Gays state how this is normal, it is all about love it is just a dog and pony show!!!! Think about this if it was meant to happen who ever created man and woman would only made one with dual plumbing!!!!

It seems to me most of you think that the word marriage is what is wrong with this, a word has sent us hating each other, what a shame. If you have been married more than once and if you believe in the word of God then you must know you are committing adultery every single day. Is one sin more important to God, I think not. If you believe due to scientific proof that they could not be born gay then you should believe the rest of scientific proof meaning you were not created by God but crawled out of the slime to become ape and only later mankind. I am not gay nor do I understand it, however I do believe in their rights as human beings. In the end we will all be judged but unless you are without sin ( that is not possible) then you should not impose your beliefs on others. If you want to be married in a church then do so but remember that all marriages even those between a woman and a man is NOT blessed by God. Most marriages do not last because of that. God will judge all so be careful how you judge others . Oh by the way I am a great grandma brought up to hate gays the way you were but I was saved, washed in the blood and taught love, kindness and the knowledge that I am not here to judge others but to learn and teach. The only thing on here I see is the teaching of hate, shame on you.

Why do I have doubts on this poll ? Sounds like you are making news, rather than reporting it. In any event, although I myself favor some sort of civil union for Gays, I and I believe most other Americans are very much against the adoption of children by same sex couples. A childs right to be raised in a normal setting should take precedent over a Gay couple's rights to adoption.A child is not a white picket fence and should not be an object that helps the gay couple realise their fantasy.

WOW! The comments on here are amazing. More backward then many I have seen lately. All about the usual God, religion and what is so called normal. People are running scared with the recent changes in MA and CT. Change is scary. I wonder about the comments 40 years ago when interracial marriage was legalized. Of course we didnt have the internet then but I am willing to bet the exact same arguments were spoken.

Discrimination is wrong. How can a nation based on democratic value tell two people their relationship is not worthy of tax benefits, inheritence rights and the ability to make life or death decisions. I am a straight married man wth 4 children. If any of my kids (they're all under 7) are gay, I would love them the same and would hope they find someone to love and marry! Not allowing people to get married is discrimination and is wrong.

It is wrong and sick they need to stay in the closet, they should not be able to adopt children or be artificially insemenated. The support is not growing the few that make niose get heard ie: Ellen Degenerate!!!!!!!!!!

It is clear to me when reading these posts that most of the so called Christians in here have obviously missed one of the most important lessons in the Bible, "Love thy neighbor." Homosexuality is not a choice, its the way someone is. When the world is in such a terrible place and their is so much hate, I can not believe that anyone would be angry because someone loves another person. I would take a loving homosexual over one of these hateful Christians to teach me about the real world any day.

    • Posted By: choiceaz @ 12/07/2008 1:05:22 PM

You don???t have a choice where, when, and how you were born, you do have a choice on how to live your life. Homosexuality has been around for a long time yet never discussed openly until recently, and now that it has some popularity with the media, many young people make the choice to live the gay lifestyle. Please don't kid yourself that the life you lead is not your choice - and with your choice comes consequences, except that the American people have spoken and move on with your choice. This is not racism or with prejudice that I write with it is simply a matter of fact, there is no ???gay??? gene that science have determined that one is born with. And for every homosexual there this is not about your relationship or love for one another it is about benefits around money. Your relationship or feelings for one another have nothing to do with gay marriage, and while the masses have spoken and no not agree with your choices you still find it necessary to ???educate??? us and try to make simulations that gays are new blacks or Jews of yesterday. A black or Jew did not have a choice, they overcame prejudice you definitely have a choice.

This article is not about how we feel about gays as you proclaim. It is about gay marriage. Which is wrong. Gay people should not be allowed to enter into a House OF God and get "married"! Go to a courthouse and get a certificate saying you have a "civil union" or some other word to show your are united. Marriage is the word used for heterosexual unions since the beginning of time. Let that word be ours. Gay people can get their own. They could at least give us that since heterosexuals are the reason that homosexuals are here today!

  • Posted By: waldyf @ 12/07/2008 1:00:21 PM

I think this poll is slanted. Specially so when it comes to the adoption of children. by same sex couples.

  • Posted By: blueplanet123 @ 12/07/2008 12:59:38 PM

God creates people with different types: gays, mentally challenged, etc. Sometimes, it is not their wishes to be born like that. Rather than condemning what is right and what is wrong, we should find a solution. If solutions can't be found yet, try to tolerate people's differences as long as the differences lead to kill thousands of people. I am Christian, but I believe that Jesus doesn't teach hate. His life was too short for us (who claim Christians) to understand the "real' teachings. And bible as we know today is written hundred years later! So! there, don't even bring hatred towards gays or minorities or anything in the name of Jesus or His followers.

To RealNEMom...what a warm letter about your daughter. It was so well put that I am copying it. It is sad that so many are still lagging behind in their understanding of gay people and perhaps will never be able to and therefore look from the viewpoint of kindness. Those are the ones that need the most education and prompting to think with their hearts, but are often the most difficult to teach because of their blind beliefs that homosexuality is wrong.

who are you to judge others? Every person should have the same and equal rights. Why should two people in love not be able to be married? The bottom line is love, and it sickens me to think that people should stand in the way of that. If you are against same sex marriage, then dont marry someone of the same sex, simple as that.

    • Posted By: treebrad @ 12/07/2008 11:25:20 AM

Because its the same sex. God will explain it to you someday.

      • Posted By: kennyone @ 12/07/2008 12:48:38 PM

I hope he has time to explain you too. That one will take longer, I'm sure

      • Posted By: dwmusic @ 12/07/2008 11:38:58 AM

treebrad I checked with God. He said "Please forgive my child treebrad, the homophobe. He knows not what he does. I will educate him in purgatory."

First of all, please overlook the multiple posts. I swear I hit "send" only once.

RealNEMom, thank you for your response, which I did find enlightening and helpful. I'm glad to know that my abused lesbian friends (who are not all located in one city, BTW) are in the minority. I also appreciated your earlier letter regarding your daughter and am genuinely pleased to know of your understanding approach to a difficult family issue. From how you describe her and because of your kind response I'm sure your daughter will be one of the lucky ones who will accept herself and not feel like she needs to browbeat society into her way of thinking. Recently my best friend of 25 years -- with some embarassment -- told me that his stepson is gay. My friend is having trouble dealing with it and it comes out as anger and intense defenseiveness for something he doesn't want to understand but has to stand up for anyway. Good luck to you and your family.

Dear Martinez - thank you for taking my comments into consideration - I would like to gently point out a few more things since you seem to be sincerely open to other points of view - what was difficult about our situation was that our daughter was depressed and unhappy and we didn't know why - once we knew why for sure, it was actually a great relief that she did not have a serious mental health issue. I had watched her struggle with boyfriend relationships and I thought perhaps, that she was questioning her orientation. So, our daughter trusted us enough to be herself with us - what greater gift could a parent receive? Honestly, we don't need luck (altho I appreciate your sentiment) - we need more people who are willing to consider our "story" and accept that it is a mainstream story - not the exception. But, who wouldn't be afraid to share, given some of the comments that are being posted here?
