Our President presides over COngress. The Speaker of the House presides over the House of Representatives, the Vice-president over the Senate, a rabbi over his synagogue, a minister over his church, and a priest over his parish......Religion and personal beliefs belong in places of worship. Secular governance and rule of law belong in our US Capitol. Our democracy was built on the firm principle of Separation of Church & State and the civil liberties of the citizens of the U.S.A. are protected by the US Constitution. The laws of this nation are not to be determined by the personal beliefs of one's religion...God Bless America

Again the MSM drives social engineering. Just like they did Obama. Americans will eventually turn on the baby boomer media controllers and send them back to the sh*t pit where they belong.

And this completely, statistically iunscientific poll is interpreted to mean that support is INCREASING?
    Last time I checked...prop. 8 PASSED...
I'm not seeing an increase in support among the masses, there, Newsweek.
    Nice spin, tho...

There is come evidence of increased acceptance of gay marriage if you look at the history of Prop 8 itself. In 2000, there was Prop 22, a California ballot initiative banning gay marriage. Prop 22 passed with 61% support. It was overturned in California Supreme Court. Then in 2008, Prop 8 passed with 52.3% support. This is not scientific or explain whether over support is for gay marriage is increasing, but it provides some evidence that support is increasing.

You know, I love all the Bible verses being used to condemn homosexuality. There were lots of folks who mentioned Leviticus in their responses to Lisa Miller's story. While were at it: Leviticus tells me not to touch my wife during her monthly "uncleanliness." I keep pointing that out to her and she keeps telling me to "get bent." Should I smite her?

  • Posted By: bdsleepy @ 12/08/2008 10:50:12 AM

You are correct, my approval is not required however you need my approval in a vote to accept your way of life and be able to marry the same sex and you will never get that from me.

    • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:26:02 PM

      Dear bds,

You just voted for it. If you supported Barak, you have now registered a vote in heaven as acceptance of the lifestyle, the church (not the true) voted it in also either by vote or no vote, which also states the timeframe we have now entered See: Hosea 6:1-2 and 2 Peter 3:8 It has been 2000 years since Christ and now we are preparing for the judgement and another church to be born - Laodicean

        Spin,

Barack Obama is opposed to Gay marriage. Why must you be so dishonest?

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 12/08/2008 2:45:22 PM

Well, it's a good thing that matters of equal rights for minorities are not decided by voters like you or imagine where we'd be right now! Women and African Americans probable wouldn't be able to vote! Thank goodness for the courts.

I think gay marriages are wrong. Lets talk about the BIBLE and what it says. GOD destroyed Sodom and Gomorra because of there homosexuality. They wanted to rape the Angels of GOD. And GOD blinded them. I also don't think that we should be exposing our children to all of this trash.

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 1:17:36 PM

I think religious whackjobs are wrong, and I don't want my children exposed to their cult of hate.

      • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:40:30 PM

        Dear Horri,

Congrats are in order as your kids were not taught by religious whackjobs they were taught by public school oops.., my bad they are taught what you believe. See: My Two Mommies followed by that famous follow-up My Two Daddies, but relax at least you were able to choose what they were taught or being taught - that's freedom pal.

        • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 5:05:20 PM

I wouldn't have my children brought up in the American school system. Your "schools" are a pathetic joke.

      • Posted By: lumpygravy @ 12/09/2008 2:35:01 PM

HB...calling people "whackjobs" certainly sounds like hate to me...I don't want children to be exposed to you =-)

        • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 2:49:29 PM

No, mate, that's "condescension and contempt", not hatred. It's not that I revile you, more that I'm laughing at you.

          • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:44:43 PM

No, I believe under the new political correctness that would be called "hate" speech and it shows a bitter heart? Perhaps by a priest?

            • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 4:57:31 PM

I will leave you ignorant colonials to define "hate speech" and "political correctness" amongst yourselves; as a member of a civilized nation, your definitions do not apply to me. You just continue along your Taliban-esque theocratic path, and I shall continue to point at you and laugh.

  • Posted By: ok4u @ 12/09/2008 10:44:00 AM

Mostly African-Americans.(70%) Without whom the vote would have failed. Ironic, isn't it? Be that as it may, no one voted to ban gay marriage. What they voted for was to override a California court's earlier decision to invent gay marriage.

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 12/09/2008 1:17:01 PM

Yeah just a bit ironic....i guess equal rights for some...but not all.

      • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 1:23:30 PM

        "Dog in the manger".

They won their rights, and now some are determined that nobody else will win theirs.

        • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:49:02 PM

          Dear Horri,

You'll get your rights and I would say if you do you'll become Gay if your not now, during the 3.5 years it will take to convince you that was no dog in the manger. But you will learn. Your day in the Sun - Tribulation!

          • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 4:58:38 PM

"You'll get your rights and I would say if you do you'll become Gay if your not now"

What? You're stating that legalising gay marriage will make everyone turn gay? LOL. You're a funny little fundie.

Homosexual behavior is always discussed in the Bible as a serious sin. There are those who take some of the passages of Scripture above and attempt to show that they do not really mean to condemn homosexuality. But these arguments fall short, and upon investigation become an obvious ploy to distort the plain meaning of Scripture. As applies to other doctrines of the Bible, one must avoid trying to interpret Scripture in light of one's proclivities, and instead, interpret one's proclivities in light of Scripture. The Bible is the grid. It is wrong to overlay your own grid on the Bible.

  • Posted By: NUTHERantistereotype @ 12/07/2008 1:36:33 PM

I'm aghast that gays will liken themselves to blacks! Being black is something one is BORN into. Being gay is a CHOICE! THEY need some EDUCATION!

    • Posted By: LBaker @ 12/07/2008 1:46:58 PM

Get a gripe. Nobody is likening themselves to Black people. What I am saying is that the same arguments were said 40 years ago about interracial marriage. It goes against nature, its not how God intended and I don't want my kids thinking it is ok and you know the world or society did not fall apart. Yes you are born black but how do YOU know people are not born gay? Are you some sort of expert?

      • Posted By: denise_1900 @ 12/07/2008 2:05:38 PM

Wrong! The difference is that the issue was between a MAN and a WOMAN...in the center of the civl rights movement. No parallel.

        • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/08/2008 2:45:49 PM

Actually, it's about whether some people can be legally considered second class citizens. It is a direct parallel.

          • Posted By: denise_1900 @ 12/08/2008 11:25:32 PM

When gays are not allowed to walk thru the front door of any establishment, not able to work to feed themselves or their 'families', dogs are told to attack them, places of worship being burned and bombed, not being able to attend school, having hi-powered water hoses sprayed upon you (strong enough to knock out a fire), hit with patons by police or the national guard, shot and killed by the police or a mob, being lynched by mobs of people (to which some are of the monsters are still alive to this day) schools being burned/bombed, men being taken from their homes and murdered, women being raped and murdered, killed because you looked at a white women, killed because you looked at a white man, killed because you didn???t call the white man sir, not being able to wear brown shoes, not being able to walk freely at night, AND ON AND ON AND ON...if ANY of this actions should ever happen to gays here in the United States, then and only then will there be a direct parallel to the civil rights movement.

            • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 4:30:39 PM

When any group's rights are stripped or denied simply because of who they are, it is the same as the civil rights movement.

Marriage is between man and woman. Civil Union or Civil Partnership is between Party A and Party B. I want my descendants to know that they are descended from a two gender family - man and woman. I want them to have the right to be a bride or groom - to have 'man' and 'woman' on their MARRIAGE certificate. I don't want them to think they came from a genderless union but actually are descended from a man and a woman who cared enough to continue our species in a natural and normal way that our bodies were made for. I'm a traditionalist. There has to be something that lets our future know that there IS a difference in unions or joinings and one of them is MARRIAGE is defined as being between one man and one woman.

Consider the consequences if there is anything else. Poliygamy will be reinstated. Unions between adults and children of 10 years or so will be granted. Bigamy, polyandry, whatever will then be accepted. IT DOES NOT STOP WITH GAY UNIONS!! Civilization is in a downward spiral. I will fight for tradition. Start a new one - but leave Traditional Marriage for one man and one woman.

"Unions between adults and children of 10 years or so will be granted."

Are you truly so thick in the head that you can't grasp the concept of "consenting adults"?

Some of these comments really make me sad. I graduated from a catholic high school 5 years ago, and I remember in my Senior theology class my teacher had us write these letters to the Bishop explaining how homosexuality was wrong (quoting some document from the church). Some of us refused to write the letter, and she said she wouldn't send it, but if we didn't write it we would fail. I still feel ashamed I actually wrote the darn thing. I felt sick to my stomach the whole time writing it and for one of the first times ashamed of myself and my religion. I'd just come from history class, learning about women's rights, civil rights etc...feeling somewhat proud of those accomplishments and then I was sitting in a class an hour later being taught how a certain group of people were immoral, unnatural, and thus somehow less than me because I was heterosexual an dthey weren't. I just hope someday when I have kids, they're not taught such hateful things...

    • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:20:26 PM

      Dear Sushi,
Why Sushi can't teach. Dear Sushi,

You do not have to be ashamed anymore, your schools are now "teaching" the lifestyle for your children to engage in and accept, after all it is a "learned" behaviour. See: Book, My Two Mommies and follow-up My Two Daddies. Now that should make you feel much better even if it does leave a somewhat of a pucker on the face. However, it does beg of Revelation 3:14-19! This is why the church/school had you all write about the lifestyle and teach you to hate your hatred of the lifestyle, using reverse psychology to instill within you the acceptance rather than rejection of the Gay community at large. Could you imagine such teaching occurring before the 1960-1970's years the outcry and termination of teachers would have been instant. You first had to change society to be more tolerant and then the church and now the masses/world at large. If it is not a learned behaviour then why teach it, what happened to the three R's and why can you not instruct your children of morality, O' thats right the same school that taught you to be ashamed of your letter, is now teaching morality to your children, "The more things change the more they remain costly?" or a "Bird in the hand is worth a trip to the bathroom".

Frankly, in response, I think that the homosexual community is the one doing the "shoving" down the throat of every american their corrupt morals and lifestyles. Forcing every american into thinking they deserve "equality" when in fact, it's too easy to see for anyone that has any sense of morality that gays are the ones with the aggressive tactics.

The people of California spoke,...move on and get over it!

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 1:20:32 PM

"Frankly, in response, I think that the homosexual community is the one doing the "shoving" down the throat of every american their corrupt morals and lifestyles."

So, by virtue of them asking you to stop ruining their lives, they are "shoving"?

You Yanks are amazing. Let me see if I have this straight: Your position is that they are denying your religious freedom by not allowing you to tell them how they can run their lives?

      • Posted By: spin @ 12/09/2008 4:05:26 PM

        Dear Horri,

They teach the lifestyle in school and as bad as you hate it it will be approved by the church (pay attention to the news) because their children and themselves are becoming more involved in the lifestyle, so even though you think we are dictating their lifestyle, think again, the church is getting you ready to accept the Gay issue by bringing it from "behind closed doors" to the open arena such as the articles in Time Mag., however, Time does not want you to be without the dire warning that "tags" this lifestyle, it is deadly and destructive to all especially so to those engaged. The church (true) is about to exit the arena to give way to judgement which occurs during the Tribulation Period this is just a form of warning those whom are to enter and be born during that time frame. The last church to be born is the Laodecian Church.

God sees every word spoken, typed, or uttered and we will all give account. It doesn't matter if you choose not to believe or be accounted as Christian or not, that is the purpose of the Tribulation Period to cause people like yourself to make a decision and you will make a decision as the last church is born in the Tribulation period soon coming to a World Theatre near you. Revelation 3:14-19. Now if you want to go through all the things written in Revelation, so be it, you've been told. By the way, this was the purpose of Time to bring you to the knowledge of the truth-I bet you thought it was to bring forth the issue for the Gay controversy? It's time to grow up God demands it.

Only Newsweek could run a poll in which 39% of those questioned support Gay Marriage and then claim increasing support for it. How much more credibility do you have to lose? The operative numbers are 30 out of 30: the number of states who have voted on and approved bans. Let's face it: gay marriage is never going to be legal in every part of the United States unless the Supreme Court foolishly mandates it. And as long as it is illegal in one state, militant gays--and Newsweek--don't win.

    • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/09/2008 4:14:32 PM

And then you can congratulate yourself on your theocracy. How nice.

When will you begin burning non-Christian books?

  • Posted By: Kelly76 @ 12/08/2008 11:22:36 PM

To those who are issuing ignorant and poorly-spelled diatribes against "the gays", keep in mind that it's not just some ill-defined Other that you're railing against. You are also condemning by kid brother, who is studying to be a nurse and who wouldn't hurt a fly.

No, you poor, put-upon "moral folks" just couldn't bear that my brother was attending the same high school and yet was different from you. You taunted and harrassed him on a daily basis, you drove him to depression and therapy, you even physically beat him on more than one occasion. To this day my family and I are eternally grateful that you didn't drive him to the thing that gay teens are driven to in disproportionate numbers - suicide.

Because of your "morals" and your "values" you made his life miserable, and now you have the nerve to say that he and others like him are somehow a threat to YOU. You have the nerve to say that my brother and so many others who suffered abuse and ridicule at your hands are somehow asking for too much, as if asking to be treated with respect and dignity instead of contempt and scorn is some kind of trespass onto your turf.

I hope that every single one of you lives a long life so you will be around to witness the day when marriage equality is made the law of the land. I hope you will see the happiness and joy among people like my brother who have fought so long for this. And when that day comes, I hope you realize not only how wrong you were, but how hurtful, hypocritical, mean-spirited, and completely, utterly un-American.

I, for one, can't wait to attend my brother's wedding so I can congratulate him on becoming the person he is today. Because despite all the abuse he took from those who couldn't stand the fact that someone with different feelings than them was walking being himself without their permission, today my brother is the kindest, most caring person I know. And while he won't be attending his high school reunion, he has put the past behind him and is optimistic about the future.

I, however, am not so forgiving.

      Dear Kelly,

Sorry about your brother. With all due respect/An earlier post:But make no mistake for Sodom is to judge this world and it's draw toward an extreme evil (and by the way only Christians can allow the Gay lifestyle to flourish with all the rights it wants, and don't think they will love you for it - they will hate you with a passion because you would not forewarn them of the truth but embraced their lifestyle as though God did approve of it - possibly due to your own children, school teaching, and church acceptance. They will hunt you down and kill you-Revelation. Matthew 11:23-24 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. Wouldn't it be nice if we could go through life non-caring about anything but our own desires and wants, that is not reality however, and if you do not care now you will in the near future. My step brother is transgender. My sister-in-law is gay. I work with gays on a daily basis. i don't see anyone beating them up. I have a gay client. He comes in and we laugh and joke and discuss. I see these people as HUMAN BEINGS who have preferences that I can't understand but accept as part of them. I still believe in traditional marriage between one man and one woman. After all, we are all descended from a man and a woman.

I'm sorry your brother was treated so ill. I'm sorry you had to see all that and that he had to experience it. I'm sorry that your family didn't live near mine, where my parents taught me to accept all people - of all races, religions, genders whatever. But I was still taught to stand up for what I believe - with respect to others, but firmly hold on to what I believe, not because I was taught one way, but because I believe or feel that way.

"Stand for something or you will fall for anything." I love my step brother, I love my sis-in-law, I love my friends - but I still will fight for Traditional Marriage between one man and one woman. I will also fight for anyone who has a conviction but will also suggest Civil Union or Civil Partnership with all the same rights and benefits as marriage - and their partnership certificate or union certificate to state betwen man and man or party a and party b or between woman and woman. Why take away from heteros simply because they feel it their right? Gays do not want to be straight - they just want equal rights. It's OKAY for them to choose that, as straights choose opposite gender - why can't we keep what separates us as our friends and loved ones keep their beliefs? It is YOU who are intolerant because of your experiences.

I can't make your life better, I can't help you to forget what you've gone through. I don't hate all men because I was kidnapped and raped at 11 - I don't hate my parents because they didn't get me the counseling I needed as I was growing up. I don't hate my brothers and sisters (all 7 of them) for the way they treated me when I needed love and acceptance. I don't hate my former husband who couldn't handle me because I needed counseling and had no idea how to deal with relationships. We all have issues we have to go through - we hopefully become stronger and don't carry the hate. I love my parents, I love my brothers and sisters and I especially love my current husband of 21 years who helped me through counseling.

Sounds like you could use some love and counseling. Grow strong. God bless!

You can???t have it both ways. You can???t say that you believe people should be treated with dignity and respect when in your previous post you compared acceptance of gay rights to acceptance of polygamy and pedophilia. Pedophilia! You can???t say you love all people when you deny their equality. When you deny their equality, you deny their humanity. And then you even suggest that I need therapy, for no apparent reason other than that I disagree with you.

You say: ???Why take away from heteros simply because they feel it is their right????

Well, it???s put up or shut up time. I invite you or anyone else in the traditional marriage movement to explain just how the extension of rights is a zero sum game. When us women were granted the right to vote, was men???s right to vote somehow diminished? Likewise, when African Americans were given the right to vote, was anything taken away from whites? When interracial marriage was made legal, was it non-interracial marriage???s loss?

I think what you have provided is a window into how you see the world. ???If I have something, then my neighbor can???t have it too.??? Why must you stand in people???s way like that? Certainly there are marriages that I don???t like, but I would never dream of trying to prevent them. This is a free country. That means it???s free for everyone, and everyone???s freedoms are protected. Is it so hard to live in a free society, where all men are created equal?

So enlighten me. If gay marriage is made legal tomorrow, how will you be encroached upon? How will you suffer? My little brother has suffered a lot at the hands of people who think like you do. Why must you continue to stand in his way, when he means you no harm?

According to Time they were mainly the Black Americans that supported the Gay community, but I did not realize there were that many Gay in Black America, guess I was wrong.

Comments were disabled in the original story so I invite others when this occurs to post in other articles similiar to the one you wanted to post in. Wouldn't it be nice if we could go through life non-caring about anything but our own desires and wants, that is not reality however, and if you do not care now you will in the near future. Revelation 3:14-19 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Now if you want to go through all the things written in Revelation, so be it, you've been told. By the way, this was the purpose of Time to bring you to the knowledge of the truth-I bet you thought it was to bring forth the issue for the Gay controversy? It's time to grow up God demands it.

I don't pretent to know everything about the Bible. In fact, I'm sure I don't. I will say that I am a Straight Christian and believe in Jesus and God. Here's my take on everything concerning Homosexuality.
In the past, it was frowned upon and treated horribly with someone being punished for being Gay.
Thnk about this though. Whenever in the Bible God decided that someone or something wrong was happening, it was God that did the punishing. It was God that determined if the person was a "sinner" or not. To that, I leave the judgment up to God. It is not my right to judge someone that is clearly not doing anything to harm someone else. In fact, the Gay community puts up with more ridicule and harrassment that I could withstand.
I believe we should allow them their choice to get married and be happy, because it's what we all want.
Accept these people(the Gay community) as friends, as relatives, as neighbors and let God make the choice.
Because when you die, how will you explain to God and Jesus how you "judged" others?
