Will Stem Cells Finally Deliver?

I think stem cells offer a window into total eradication of some if not all of society's deadliest ills but when the author talks about invovement from private industry and governmental agencies, you have to take a step back and ask yourself do these agencies/companies really have the interest of the general public at heart and not the pursuit of profit as the primary means of operation, production and excution of medicinal products. When profit plays part in the medical equation you can guarantee that cures will not be the end result but "therapies" will. Therapies with side effects that always seem to surface years later after clinical trials overseen by the FDA have been cleared. The FDA which was once a watchdog over the pharma and AMA establishment is more of a partner or pupet for said organizations. I hate to be in conflict with the entreprenurial spirit of this country but some things are best left not in the hands of corporations and the greed from profiteering off the perpeutually ill. If and when stem cells CURES materialize, it will totally change medicine as we know it so the question is will those who currently control medicine in America will be willing to let those changes occur, adjust accordingly and stand in the way of progress. Progress that will improve the quality of life for the ill and disabled. I sincerly hope the FDA will restore itself as a protector of the people. It's shameful to see drugs that were once passed with flying colors only to have them relabled with "black box" warnings years if not months later. I hope insurance companies will play a positive role in bringing stem cell cures from clinical trail to bedside as a healthy customer is a money making customer. I hope the government will change it's position from the backwards view of medicine the current administration has and enable America to be the leader in this new field of medicine. It's a sad state of affairs when people resort to going to China for treatments that haven't gone through trials but there are plenty of trials pending FDA approval and patients that are literally dying to take a chance and participate in those trials with little or nothing to lose but the FDA for whatever reason prevents certain trials from materializing. Let people have the choice and take a chance if little to no hope is available with current treatments. We need a medicinal renaissance and it will happen whether America decides if it wants to be a leader or a follower.

This certainly does appear to be a break through. Through this method, have anybody explored the possibility of finding a cure for certain skin diseases like Vitiligo or Psoriasis.

I would like to see something worthwhile. all this talk about getting breakthroughs, will not help anyone in the next 10 years. Also I think the best method for curing diseases, would to take your own cells and find a way to reproduce the healthy cells you have out of the body, then reinject them back to the percise spot, and keeping a few tubes of them at a time to reinject when needed. that way no rejection, and you have a working prgan, which in my case is a pancreas that is failing. I think the only way to really cure something, is to do it within yourself, and to get 100 percent no rejection method, for all organs. I think that is possible, very possible, we just need a rocket scientist to figure out how to do it.

Why the hell are we killing babies and curing people without approval from God first? I mean, God put them there for a reason. In fact, why the hell are you guys reading this without God's approval? Why am I typing this comment without His approval?

Hopefully, with the Republican inspired restrictions removed, we'll be able to see what stem cell research can do to help people overcome serious afflictions.
