I think that the sentiments expressed in this colum are dead right. Pakistan military is an American endeavor, has always been. As long as America tolerates these terror attacks even as it fights an anti-terror war, the outcome will inevitably be a war between India and Pakistan. The fact that the killers sought out jews and Americans in this terror act helped America to help out, but not nearly enough. Any pretext that Pakistani ISI and the military have no role in this cruel act is only encouragement for the next. America should mince no words to expose the tragedy that American training has created these monstrous terrorists, notwithstanding the fat that it was not the intent.

Being an Indian, one is naturally outraged at the Mumbai attack. While tempers run high, and India assumes a hawkish position against a beleaguered Pakistan, the rational self warns us that we cannot allow the luxury of anger. India is responding exactly according to the script written by the perpetrators of this dastardly crime; an enraged India would, like a bull in a china shop, mobilize troops on its western front,, thereby freeing the north west frontier, the FATA region of the heat the Pakistani army has on in that region against the Taliban. Further, it would give ample opportunity for the Army and ISI to show the democratic government in poor light, thereby, paving the way for a subsequent military takeover / coup : Pakistan's army's favorite pastime, as can be borne out by General Kyami's silence on the whole issue.
It would be to India's wisdom to understand this game plan, and do exactly the opposite of what these criminals want India to do ; India should seek to support President Zardari who increasingly finds himself marginalized by the Army ISI and the "non state actors" the jehadis. President Zardari has on various forums and occasions has tried to reach out to India, but unfortunately is weak at the moment. India should continue diplomacy to get the criminals arrested first in Pakistan, then extradited to India, and support President Zardari in his efforts to come to grips with the Army, ISI and jehadi organizations.

Sir, You are absolutely right about the futility of an Indian military strike against Pakistan. The US certainly should not encourage it as it would only hasten Pakistan's transformation into Taliban country

The United States should wholeheartedly support India over Pakistan. Pakistan is a haven for terrorism and too many of its citizens violently hate Hindus, Jews, Christians and Americans. Conversely, India is the world's largest Democracy that is home to over 200 million vegetarians who respect all life.

Pakistani Journalist Irfan Hussain who used to be hanged Pakistani President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's secretary now works for Dawn magazine. This comment from his artcile mentioned in my posts below say sit all about pakistanis posting here:
"Many foreign and local journalists have exposed aspects of the terror network that has long flourished in Pakistan. Names, dates and addresses have been published and broadcast. But each allegation has been met with a brazen denial from every level of officialdom. Just as we denied the existence of our nuclear weapons programme for years, so too do we refuse to accept the presence of extremist terrorists."

The Pakistan military has been the omnipotent ruler of that country which consumes all resorces and more. Suggesting that the country make a shift where common people become the focus of strategy kicking the military out of its status is easier said than done. It might be a bit harder to rein in a monster than creating and building one but you think US could change a mindset and I agree that only US could effect any change. The Pakistani military and ISI have been promoting the theory that the US wants to take Pakistani nuclear arsenal and the war against terror is a ploy towards achieving that but they do not offer to sign the NPT. There does not seem to be much concern for the lack of energy neither there seems any will to attempt to neutralise their nuclear threat in exchange with nuclear power for the countrys energy needs. Curbing this monster that has been strenghthened to safeguard US interests during the cold war could be bloody and painful and India could be looking at millions of displaced refugees from Pakistan in not so distant future.

Many foreign and local journalists have exposed aspects of the terror network that has long flourished in Pakistan. Names, dates and addresses have been published and broadcast. But each allegation has been met with a brazen denial from every level of officialdom. Just as we denied the existence of our nuclear weapons programme for years, so too do we refuse to accept the presence of extremist terrorists.

For years, it suited the army and the ISI to secretly harbour and support these groups in Pakistan, Kashmir and Afghanistan. While officially denying that they had anything to do with these jihadis, money and arms from secret sources would reach them regularly. Despite our spooks maintaining plausible deniability, enough information about this covert support for jihadis has emerged for the fig-leaf to slip. And even if the intelligence community has now cut its links with these terrorists, the genie is out of the bottle.

Each time an atrocity like Mumbai occurs, and Pakistan is accused of being involved, the defensive mantra chanted by the chorus of official spokesmen is: ???Show us the proof.??? The reality is that in terrorist operations planned in secret, there is not much of a paper trail left behind. Nine times out of ten, the perpetrators do not survive to give evidence before a court. But in this case, one terrorist did survive, and Ajmal Amir Kamal???s story points to Lashkar-e-Tayyaba. The sophistication of the attack is testimony to careful planning and rigorous training.

This was no hit-and-run operation, but was intended to cause the maximum loss of life.

Pakistan???s foreign minister said that Pakistan, too, is a victim of terrorism. While this is certainly true, the rest of the world wants to know whey we aren???t doing more to root out the training camps, and lock up those involved. Given the vast un-audited amounts from the exchequer sundry intelligence agencies lay claim to, their failure to be more effective against internal terrorism is either a sign of incompetence, or of criminal collusion. Benazir Bhutto???s murder, after an earlier attempt and many warnings, is a reminder of how poorly we are served by our intelligence agencies.

And while the diplomatic fallout from the Mumbai attack spreads and threatens to escalate into an armed confrontation, the biggest winners are those who carried out the butchery of so many innocent people. It is to their advantage to prevent India and Pakistan from coordinating their fight against terrorism. Tension between the two neighbours suits them, while peace and cooperation threatens their very existence.

The world is naturally concerned about the danger posed by these terror groups to other countries. However, the biggest threat they pose is to Pakistan itself. Until Pakistanis grasp this brutal reality and muster up the resolve necessary to crush them, these killers will tear the country apart.

    Pakistani Dawn magazine Irfan Hussain
    continued:
Most Pakistanis, when presented with the fact that our country is now the breeding ground for the most violent ideologies, and the most vicious gangs of thugs who kill in the name of religion, go back in history to explain and justify their presence in our country. They refer to the Afghan war, and the creation of an army of holy warriors to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. Then they go on to complain that the Americans quit the region soon after the Soviets did, leaving us saddled with the problem of jihadi fighters from all over the Muslim world camped on our soil.

What we conveniently forget is that for most of the last two decades, the army and the ISI used these very jihadis to further their agenda in Kashmir and Afghanistan. This long official link has given various terror groups legitimacy and a domestic base that has now come to haunt us. Another aspect to this problem is the support these extremists enjoy among conservative Pakistani and Arab donors. Claiming they are fighting for Islamic causes, they attract significant amounts from Muslim businessmen here and abroad. And almost certainly, they also benefited from official Saudi largesse until 9/11.

Now that government policy is to distance itself from these jihadis, we find that many retired army officers have continued to train them in camps being run in many parts of Pakistan. A few weeks ago, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, a prominent (and very loud) minister under both Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf, openly boasted on TV of running a camp for Kashmiri fighters on his own land just outside Rawalpindi a few years ago. If such camps can be set up a few miles from army headquarters, what???s to stop them from operating in remote areas?

My dear fellows lets leave our differences aside and think to improve economic conditions of India and pakistan and learn how to live with each other in peace like America and Canada.I was very surprised when I read this article on bbc website that poor indian are urged to eat rat meat and it was suggested by one of their welfare minister. I just noticed that most of my Indian fellows are talking about so called prosperity where over 80% indian are still living under poverty line according to World bank report...here is the article from BBC
An official in the Indian state of Bihar has come up with a new idea to encourage low caste poor people to cope with food shortages - rat meat.

The Principal Secretary of the state's Welfare Department, Vijay Prakash, said that he was advancing his proposal after "much survey and ground work".

Bihar's extremely poor Musahar community are rat-eaters by tradition.

The Musahar are on the bottom strata of the caste system with the lowest literacy rate and per capita income.

Less than one percent of their 2.3 million population in Bihar is literate and 98% are landless.

Here is what Irfan Hussain of Pakistani Widely respected Dawn newspaper has to say:

    Facing the truth

    By Irfan Husain

Even in my remote bit of paradise, news of distant disasters filters through: above the steady sound of waves breaking on the sandy beach in Sri Lanka, I was informed by several news channels about the sickening attacks on Mumbai. My Internet connection is erratic and slow, but nevertheless, I have been bombarded with emails, asking me for my take on this latest atrocity.

Over the last few years, I have travelled to several countries across four continents. Everywhere I go, I am asked why Pakistan is now the focal point of Islamic extremism and terrorism, and why successive governments have allowed this cancer to fester and grow. As a Pakistani, it is obviously embarrassing to be put on the spot, but I can see why people everywhere are concerned. In virtually every Islamic terrorist plot, whether it is successful or not, there is a Pakistani angle. Often, foreign terrorists have trained at camps in the tribal areas; others have been brainwashed in madressahs; and many more have been radicalised by the poisonous teachings of so-called religious leaders.

Madeline Albright, the ex-US secretary of state, has called Pakistan ???an international migraine???, saying it was a cause for global concern as it had nuclear weapons, terrorism, religious extremists, corruption, extreme poverty, and was located in a very important part of the world. While none of this makes pleasant reading for a Pakistani, Ms Albright???s summation is hard to refute. Often, the truth is painful, but most Pakistanis refuse to see it. Instead of confronting reality, we are in a permanent state of denial. This ostrich-like posture has made things even worse.

Mr. 10 percent Zradari commens that mumbai jihadi terrorist are nonstate, stateless actors is hilarious. It has been proved they are all pakistanis just like kasab who is from pakistani southern punjab village of Faridkot near debalpur. How are they stateless actors and who is zardari deceiving when he says all Lashkar E Taibba terrorist will all be tried in pakistan, Why would they be tried in Pakistan if they are Stateless? Pakistan has no choice but to hand all of them to India.Like Zakarai says it is the end of the line for Pakistan. These mumbai Pakistani jihadi terrorist murdered citiznes of USA, Australia, canada, germany, China, Japan , Italy besdies Indians many of whom were muslims. Mohmmaed Ajmal Kasab is talking like a parrot under third degree, so much for the bravado of a Pakistani jihadi terrorist, All Pakistani jihadi terrorists are pussies with guns in hand!!!!

Arabs told me there is widespread racism in Islam. The fair looking muslims are preferred and the dark coloured muslims are ostracized. One should also remember that It was muslim arabs who started to enslave the balck africans. They were the ones who started Slave trade.
The followers of "peaceful religion" raped, pillaged, looted dishnoring women of the defeated hindu and buddhist folks.
Then the follwers of the "peaceful religion" of islam destroyed hundreds of thousands of hindu, buddhist, other Indian religions places of worship and with the same stones build their mosques on top of them! What a peaceful religion!!!!
The turko-mongol kings of the peaceful religion murdered 2 sikh gurus!! Th eword "loot" come from muslim hordes looting off wealth from Hindu temples!!!
What is happening is that pakis cannot see economic progress India is making in the World. The aim of mumbai jihadi terrorist ws to disrupt that. But opposide has happened. Pakistan is going to pay a heavy price if it does not hand over the terrorist demanded by India. Food riots, civil unrest, will spread. Hope for Baluchistan to be independent and NWFP joining our ally karzai's country - Afghanistan.

How is that Hamid Gul the ex ISI cheif who goes around preaching hatred of US, West and India does so openly in Pakistan? Hasn't USA just declared him as terrorist sympathizer?

Kashmir is integral part of India. The ruler of kashmir acceeded to India willingly. Here we have Pakistani jihadi murderers murdering citizens of USA, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, canada, France, China, Israel, and Australia besides innocent Indians which included numerous Muslims and on this forum in comments section Pakistaini wanna be Jihadis are talking about kashmir!! trying to deceive and lie their way through the terror acts committed by their murderous pakistani countrymen!!
World is watching pakistan, Like Zakaria says it is end of bline for Pakistan now. If it does not take action against terrorist jihadis killing in the name of their dark religion that teaches murder and torture of all infidels, the whole Pakistani nation will pay a heavy price.
The Arabs say they are the real muslims and look down upon the inferior converts their ancestors converted by force. The Arabs fought against Central asians and won. They had turkish slaves they made into their servant soldiers, They then defeated the Persians. To the Arabs they all inferior converts. That is what Arabs I have talked to told me.
Kashmir has been integral part of India for centuries. It was all hindu and then the barbarian murderous muslim invaders the slaves of arabs The slave turks soldiers came and forced the local hindus/ Buddhists to convert by force. Does that mean kashmir should go to pakistan? Of course not. India has more muslims then pakistan. The fight is about land. Look at the balance of power in the region. Pakistan does not have the strength to fight India. It lost all three wars besides kargil. kargil ended with Sharif running away to Saudi arabia!

In begining Pakistan was made up of West pakistan and East Pakistan. When the party of East pakistani Sheik Mujir Rahman won the election the military ruler sof west Pakistan put him in jail becaus ehe was a Bengali muslim! Then the Western pakistan(the present day pakistan) army began to massacre, rape pillage the East pakistanis. Millions of East pakistanis sought shelter in India. To prevent genocide of east Pakistanis India attacked the Western pakistani army. Within 2 weeks 90,00 Weste pakistani soldier surrendered! 2weeks only! Bangladesh was born.
The muslim argument of these pakistanis ring of deceit and lies. Kashmir will stay with India.
Hand over ISI terrorist courter Hamid gul to India pakis.
