I see newsweek is hard at work fixing the comment glitches.
bob_hall27, You are borderline not worthy of a response. I would liken the Grand OLD Party of Hate and the Bush administration to the Romans. Bush and the republicans attempted to rule rather that Govern and the results is a withered and dead party. Just like the roman Empire, it will never rise again.

Mr. Hall, you and G W Bush are twins, aren't you. If you ever wake up you will realize it is Bushes policies which you are promoting that got us where we are now. If you do wake up, relax and go back to sleep.
It is not Bushes policies that I push It is the policies of the constitution that I bush Bush is as much a socialist as anyone. Anyone who walks into the house of representatives with Paulson and Bernake with a threat to steal from the public is far from a capitalist If he is anything he is a Tyrant The constitution says our monetary system should be under the gold standard not a privately controlled fiat system. We have been living under socialism for many years and all Obama is about is more of the same just at a grander scale
Mr. Fineman, B. Obama used "Change" as his theme for state politics in Illinois and says that he is the person who is responsible for the "vision" that others are to follow. I have not heard anybody say 0if Obama was the one who chose "Change" as a his themes or if this was recommended to him by someone else. Also, I have not actually heard if Obama is the person who put together the vision he says he is responsible for or if the vision is comeing from someone else or a particular group of advisors. Are you able to find out?
To the moron who thinks that a true patriot doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks: where have you been for the last 8 years? You probably voted twice for the village idiot and are proud of what a heck of a job he did. Your precious capitalism has failed along with the US "supremacy". Obama will solve some of our immediate problems but I'm afraid there is no help for pin heads like you.
Obama is doing absolutely the right things to get us back on track. If we don't regain at least some of confidence the world had in us, then we will only be hurt worse. Those who have small views of partisanship (or the stupid comment elsewhere here about Ayers in the Transportation Dept....drop it, will you?) won't be getting all they want because Obama is focused on more important, strategic goals that will help fix much bigger problems. Good for him! I'm very pleased so far.
If you are talking about regaining confidence then I can guarantee Obama is going in the wrong direction. If you want the economy to Be great again then you need capitalism not socialism. Capitalism can stand on its own socialism cannot. The only way to support socialism is through capitalism. This has been proven throughout time over and over again. The fall of Rome was do to the fact that it went from a capitalist society to a socialist society. Get it through your heads we need less government intervention in our lives not more. AS far as the rest of the world goes I could care less what they think of us as well as any true patriot should. WE should be worried about ours and our own first then after and only after we are a stable country again would or should we help anyone else in the world.
It is simply hard to understand how giving money to companies or tax cuts to the wealthy will ever help our economy. When you think about how our economy actually works it becomes apparent that businesses succeed and grow and the wealthy gain more wealth simply because people spend, because the general population has and spends money and thereby stimulates the entire economy, allows business to grow and even provides profits for the wealthy. Just giving money directly to those at the top, whether businesses or the wealthy, has clearly proven to do little for the over all economy or for the majority of Americans. The objective that makes more sense is to get more money into the hands of the average person who can then participate to spend and stimulate the total economy. Saving businesses, which have proven to be irresponsibly and poorly run, by injecting tax payers??? money, may have some short term effect but it is simply asking to have to throw more money at it again later. And giving tax breaks to the wealthy tends to only make the wealthy wealthier. If the desire is sincerely to stimulate the entire economy, to benefit everyone, then the goal needs to be to make the average American more secure, free from exploitation by greed / dishonesty, and with more spendable income and just more confident that their status will remain stable. Any rationalizations that say otherwise, for instance the ???trickle down??? theory, are fraudulent and offer only deceptive solutions that benefit just the few. Our economy is more of a ???bubble up??? function and what is needed now is more stable consumer spending with higher employment, better security and without giving tax dollars to those at the top while just hoping somehow they will do something to make benefit then ???trickle down???. Anything our government does now should be focused on accomplishing that and on rejecting any rationalizations to justify otherwise, which are focused on benefiting the few. They have clearly and repeatedly shown us exactly what doesn???t work and to continue to do the same things, expecting different results, is totally stupid. Voters need to recognize and reject those who advocate / rationalize continuing with more of the same thinking. When the focus is on the wealthy, only the wealthy get real benefit; when the focus is truly on the average American, everyone wins!
