The author Akyol uses every opportunity to denigrate Ataturk and its legacy. Belonging to an Islamic Fraternity which has fought secularization and democratization of Turkey since the very first year of the Repuclic, Akyol does not suprises me when he airbrushes reality to romanticize the reactionary movement and to denigrate the 'secular progressive' movement -he is very similar to Bill O'Reilly.
When JFK sent the federal troops to Alabama and Missisipi to enforce the democratic rights of African Americans, the pro-segregation governors of the Southern States called JFK undemocratic. Believing Akyol and his Fraternity were for democracy is no different than believing pro-segregation racists were for liberation. Interestingly enough, pro-segregation racists used the word 'liberty' many times to advance their agenda, which was to limit others' luiberties, just like AKP uses the word 'democracy' to justify the undemocratic actions of their religion-based propaganda.
