A "Map of Violence" by a Brazilian think tank found that the problem of youth violence, including the murder rate for 15- to 24-year-olds, is concentrated in Latin America, because of its gangs and rampant drug trade:

37Murder rate (per 100,000 people) for young people in all of Latin America. That's three times higher than North America's, 17 times Asia's, and 30 times higher than Europe's.

92Murder rate among young people in El Salvador, the study's worst offender, followed by Colombia (73).

7Number of spots held by Latin American countries in the top 10 of youth murder rates. The top five: El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela (64), Guatemala (55) and Brazil (52).
