For the Mormon Church or others to cry victim is like my throwing a rock through a window and then hiding behind a bush and crying how they are looking for me. If the Mormon Church, or any other, wishes to throw themselves into the political spotlight; they become subject to the scrunity of public opinion that comes from voicing an opinion. The greater question remains whether religious organizations have the right to fund political campaigns and maintain their 501(c)3 status. Where do we draw the line?

I blush to think that such an intolerant and unsustantiated excuse for a look at Biblical views would pass for journalism. My editor would fire me if I wrote such a ridiculous piece blasting the majority of good family members and citizens of this country the way this article has done. The marriage of one man and one woman which began with Adam and Eve and is held up as the family (blessed by the Lord with blesings of children) is our guide and 42 years of marriage with four wonderful blessings have shown it to be true. We do not remake God's Word to fit ouir views, we obey His Word because He loves us and wants the BEST for us, for which we love and worship Him. "The Lord is the everlasting God, The Creator of the ends of the earth, He will not grow tired or weary and His understanding no one can fathom." 40:28 God loves the gay sinner as much as any other sinner but He asks them to sin no more. Jesus will receive His bride when He returns for His church.....

How sad to see such a biased, one sided article. Neither the feature article nor this essay from the editor's desk show any evidence of having read much scholarly discussion of this issue, e.g. Robern Gagnon's "The Bible and Homosexual Practice." Shame on you for such sloppy work.

If they read the Bible instead of exclusively reading their liberal peers' papers then they would understand what scholars of old knew...God hates homosexuality as much as any other sin. And that marriage between a man and a woman blessed by God has been shown to be the example that we should follow.

How sad to see this article. If the truths of the Bible can not be believed then what truths are there? No wonder there are so many lost people, when this kind of silliness is published ... and under the guise of being a 'religeous' peace. Shame on you! You have completely disappointed me in publishing this article -- I will no longer be a Newsweek reader.

One man one woman was God's standard. All other is evil placed on us by evil people. Homosexuality is detestable in
God's site. He turned them over to their reprobate minds - this includes Miller and Meacham. God's Word
never changes. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Modern twisting of the Word of God is evil,
brought to us by evil people.

Lisa Miller and Jon Meacham appear to be idiots that should've actually read the bible before writing or talking about it.

Newsweek has left the realm of journalism and crossed over to the world of schilling for a cause. Shame on Newsweek for allowing such a flimsy and stilted argument to be printed in its pages. It must be wonderous for Mr. Meacham to sit on his perch and cast aspersions on those who believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. It certainly makes his job vastly easier to label such believers fundamentalist and "worse than intellectually bankrupty" than to actually dig for the truth and report it. In reality, the only intellectually bankrupt people I can find from this episode are Meacham and Miller. Miller's article and Meacham's screed are nothing other than an outright schilling of gay marraige, which the majority of American's disagree with. They cannot get beyond their liberal guilt over the passage of Prop 8 and are now engaging in their public mea culpa to the minority of people that believe they have complete ownership of this issue. Shame, shame.

The real intellectual bankruptcy is to argue that something is so merely because a NEWSWEEK poll confirms that a portion of young people think it is so or a NEWSWEEK article assembles a group of theologically liberal and ideologically driven scholars to give their assent. The true intellectual approaches an issue realizing that many things are much more complex than they first appear. Mr. Meacham will find compelling arguments for the authority - dare I say the historical and moral reliability - of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament if he is willing to dig a little deeper into the world of biblical scholarship than the Jesus Seminar folks they parade on PBS specials. Gay marriage is indeed a tricky issue that is worthy of vigorous and civil debate. There are many serious and intellectually rigorous Evangelical Christians who have much to add to such a debate. Why seek to nullify their participation by twisting Scripture and labeling them as Fundamentalists? So much for tolerance.

No matter what one thinks about contemporary journalism???for, against or somewhere in between ???this liberal resort to using the "fundamentalism smear" is the worst kind of journalism. Given the recent history of America's media, to argue that something is worthy of serious consideration because it is in Newsweek is more than intellectually bankrupt--it is unserious, and unworthy of the legacy of serious news media.

Had either Mr. Meacham or Ms. Miller attended the event, they would know that this event did not happen as Wheaton College, as they report. It happened at the Wheaton Evangelican Free Church--which is in the same town, yes, but otherwise unconnected. While it is interesting to try to tie Billy Graham's alma mater to the current struggle within the Episcopal Church, it's just untrue. Please correct, both online and in print.
