With a broader focus: Ultra-conservatism, like the ???trickle down??? concept, has much the same characteristics as found in illegal pyramid schemes. They are equal in that only a few people really benefit, that they are driven by self-interests, are infected with greed and dishonesty, are sold with attraction to people???s self-interests and greed, and depend on taking advantage of the majority. The fraud they can perpetrate results in the collapse of the infected systems (i.e., corporate corruption, Wall Street, mortgage industry, auto industry, religious extremism,,,) and can eventually even bring down the total economy (what we are close to today). Without the regulations, enforcement, controls, checks and balances needed to keep conservative methodology from being the run-away service of the powerful few, greed, dishonesty and self-indulgence naturally take over. As long as the focus is on total deregulation, completely open and fair-trade markets and on the unchecked pursuit of benefit for Special Interests and a select few, without real protection, consideration and concern for the majority, the natural result will be what we are experiencing today. This criticism is not liberal thinking advocating a large ???tax and spend??? government giving to a dependent population or advocating protectionism but rather is pragmatism, is simply reality demanding moderation and a centrist thinking that actually benefits everyone. The other choice is to continue down the road we have been on, with only very costly temporary delays.

What an idiot. Became a senator first and then worry about your stupid name. A fool who mindless hold on to their pride and name is the most dangerous kind.

Biased alignment v objective discernment: Can pre-committed voters make rational decisions? There is real value in the conservative philosophies of ???the least amount of government is the best government??? and that ???government should only do for the people that which they can???t do for themselves??? however, as we are currently experiencing most everywhere (corporate corruption, Wall Street failures, housing foreclosures, auto industry meltdown, religious extremists,,,), there is responsibility inherent in all of that which demands that there is liberal protection against the exploitation of the many by the few and for equitable and fair treatment providing real opportunity for everyone. Those who think smart, work hard and take the risk deserve to reap the rewards, however there needs to be real regulation, control and enforcement to insure that greed, dishonesty and/or self-indulgence doesn???t take over and allow the powerful few to take advantage ??? simply, balance is required to prevent ultra-conservatism, which promotes advantage to the few, and also to prevent extreme liberalism from creating a large ???tax & spend??? government, which inhibits real growth. Ultra-conservatism without the checks and controls provided by reasonable liberalism is like the pyramid schemes which advocate something that can???t work and will only benefit a few while victimizing the majority. We are currently being required to reactively address the failures occurring in many areas, with more to come, that are caused by an imbalance and a failure to be objectively proactive. Continuing as is, without responsibly and objectively recognizing the need for balance, could just be condemning the whole system to a catastrophe. As Collin Powell has intelligently articulated, (paraphrased) we really need more moderate, centrist and independent thinking to insure that the cancer doesn???t continue to infect and grow.

I think that he knew what he was getting into. Thiis poor soul is so interested in this Senate seat that he was Campaigning even when he gave his version of what happened via TV the other day. He seems obsessed with getting this position.. I don't think that it would be in any democrat's best interest to have a special election. I am not sure that he could win in IL's special a general election for this position. He is too anxious and gives the impression that he is owed this Senate seat. Fact is that he he has the wrong name and does not seem truthful.

There is nothing new under the sun in Chicago. In the 1960 Presidential election - Daley made sure Kennedy won by a landslide - a suspicious 450,000 vote majority in Cook County- and Kennedy won the Presidency by a slim 113,000 popular vote nationwide. For the first time in decades, someone is actually looking under the rug in this swamp of political corruption. Lots of possibilities here - the tantalizing tape transcripts, plea bargains from those who are involved - which may lead to admissions and accusations by those who don't want to be left holding the bag, and as we are seeing - a re-tooling of the agenda by the left wing political writers - who, with feigned indignation, are now slowly turning their guns around toward all of the phonies and unscrupulous hacks spawned in Chicago. The President-elect is handling this quite well now and hopefully he will survive this get back to the business at hand. If any of his people in the new admninistration are involved, he will have to make a declarative statement by firing them in order to preserve the integrity of the office and demonstrate that the stink of this kind of thing didn't follow him from Illinois. Politics in Chicago will not be purged of corruption and rise to a higher standard, however, - you cannot teach a pig to sing - it is a waste of time and annoys the pig.

Love that last line. Obama showed bona fides when he immediately fired that campaign aid for saying Hillary would do anything to win. He should and probably would do the same with any aid who acted improperly in this case. All criminals should be punished. With Fitzgerald in charge we can believe that the investigation will be thorough. With his comments so far, is it not as inferrable as anything else that the contacts could have gone like this:

We would like to discuss our support for Valerie Jarrett.

What would Obama do for me?

      He will appreciate your choice.

You must think all of us are stupid!! We know how the game is played. This happens all over the country. I sugesst you investigate every congressional and senate seat, local or national. I hope Jackson gets this seat. It is all about money and power. Aside from the mess he will work hard and OBAMA wanted him to have it. PERIOD. Give it to him by holding a special election. HE Will WIN!!. We need more African Americans in the senate. It is his turn....

  • Posted By: Junglejim123 @ 12/12/2008 4:09:47 PM

Jarret was either tipped off or she made a sensible decision to withdraw her name and go to the White House . Jesse Jr can stop apoligizing - most of us do not believe him but who cares ? He isnt going to be a Senator in this lifetime. You cannot tip tow thru the sewer without getting dirty and Obama did not have sucha short career in illinois as this writer suggests. there is something dirty there - hidden in his records which he had sealed, and in his school records which he also sealed. The President elect - who campaigned for transparency - whata JOKE - yea transparency UNTIL it involves him. G-Rod will sing in time and we will get a full picture and possibly learn where Obama was really born and how to prove it.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 12/12/2008 5:17:52 PM

"there is something dirty there - hidden in his records which he had sealed, and in his school records which he also sealed."

You can just feel it in your bones? A little birdie tell you? What about all the certainty that everyone had about all those other smears and fabrications during the campaign, that so many were so certain of, that got debunked?

That's not intuition you're hearing, it is hope. A need.

This is so funny. If this were Bush (or any other Republican), every one of you so-called "journalists" would be in overdrive right now trying to find any little tie to the Governor to bring him down before he even got started. Since this is the "Messiah," you're practically tripping over each other trying to make sure that everyone is clear about the "fact" that Obama had nothing to do with this - that he is completely innocent. I just love the "objectivity" of the press.

    • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 12/11/2008 5:27:20 PM

Nobody picked on Bush, in fact he has been pretty unscathed so far as to what he and his cronies deserve. There is time for exposure, we will deal with one president at a time. With what we do know, Bush is somewhere in the lower side of the Nixon neaighborhood.

The perss kinda suks, but Bush has gotten a pass so far, he deserves so much more, and hopefully will be held accountable, and the rest of his loyal operatives.

      • Posted By: Robvme @ 12/12/2008 12:07:40 AM

I think you missed the first few months of the Bush adminsitration. He was called unpresidential, they slammed him for the S&L bailout, his own business failures, is drunk daughters and his own battle with alcohol, his unique way with words, that he wasn't very presdiential looking, and even called the anti-christ. Bush has been beat up on every topic and every issue since he has taken office. The difference is that he has stuck to his guns, right or wrong, and admittedly, much of it wrong, but also some good too.

        • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 12/12/2008 1:33:30 PM

You know something, what you are saying here is true of the press. They do go for the cheap shots, tabloid crp 90 percent of the time. And he didn't turn out to be the anti-christ, I for one did not think he was even close to that capable.

But I do read what you are saying. One thing I always thought about BWBush. He had this false bravado that really didn't suit him. He surrounded himself with the wrong people who had agendas that were probably not his cup of tea, but he was vulnerable to their persuasion by the fact that he was at their mercy for the first few years. He surrounded himself with the wrong people. When Rice came in and started to have more influence and the others started to fade, he started to be more of what I hoped he would have been in the first place. Unfrotunately, there were so many mistakes by then that his posture was totally defensive and cover up. Sad, he could have been a good president, just was too vulnerable and had too many in his inner circle that had their own agendas and knew that Bush would be blamed for implementing thier wild ideas not them, so there was no checks and balances.

        • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 12/12/2008 12:01:56 PM

Ya, that tabloid sht about his daughters and all of that other stuff is what I hate about the press. When they focus on that crp and miss the real substance and the screwing over of this country, that is a huge problem

Bush is like a kid that was given a gun and a badge, and he is the new shewif in town. He should have ben given one bullit to keep in the pocket of his shirt, like Barney. Unfortunately, he shot our country in the back like Cheney shot his friend in the face.

"The difference is that [Bush] has stuck to his guns, right or wrong, and admittedly, much of it wrong, but also some good too."

Wish he'd stuck to those guns a little less.

Unless and until the party and its members give up this paranoia that the MSM is nothing but left skewed and the cause of Bush's and the party's problems, the party will never recover.

The MSM whupped up on Bill plenty, and certainly seemed more ravenous then than vs. Bush.

Oh, so Jackson Jr. and yourself both support some kind of political nepotism? How about letting the people of Illinois vote? You contradict yourself. Jesse Jr. has paid to play. Waiting his turn, calming his dad, etc... all favors. Just because you can't tie a dollar value to a service or a convenience doesn't mean that it isn't corrupt. And stop trying to be an Obama apologist. He is indeed the fruit of the long history of corrupt politics in Illinois, Chicago, and Cook County. Give us a break. If the media was responsible at all they would have force more disclosure and forthcoming from Obama's dealings with not only Blago and his predecessor, but with Bill Ayers and Jermiah Wright. But no..all of you were enamored by his charm, charisma, and well spoken nature. Qualifications be damned let's just gift our political positions to who the previous administration thinks deserves them. Great argument. Maybe we should just outsource the Loop to India and have a call in number. I be they would do a better job. By the way, I hear Hillary's seat is up for sale to another unqualified candidate from the Kennedy family. I bet she thinks she's entitled too. She waited her turn didn't she. Afterall her daddy was shot, that should be qualification enough.

      • Posted By: Robvme @ 12/12/2008 12:01:18 AM

No, the point is that we had two lousy candidates, one that we loved and one that was easy to hate, but for all the wrong reasons. We really know nothing about Obama except that he has weasled out of every hard quesiton with the help of the media is a fact. Now that said, the American people have spoken. I hope that Obama delivers and more importantly, I hope the congress develops some back bone. Make no mistake if you are Chicango politician, you are not squeaky clean, but then who is?

        • Posted By: 40YearR @ 12/12/2008 12:13:50 PM

There have been both Rs and Ds who have blamed their problems on the press. Never saw a politician the press wasn't willing to go after. That sells. Fix 'News' did its best, as just one example. They had to spin yarns or engage in the guilt by association to have anything to talk about. Only the ultra howl radio was delusional enough to pursue those things. If others had anything real to work with, they would not hesitate. Scandal sells better than considered endorsement or praise. Fitzgerald pulled no punches in the Scooter case. As a federal prosecutor in a republican administration now prosecuting a democrat he is unlikely to not pursue this scandal fully. I see no reason to presume that he was not as straight forward in his comments about this case as he was in the Scooter case. The rest is just cynical guilt by association. People who engage in that lost the election and are in the minority.

    HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

For all of those BUsh supporters who are prejudging the presidency of Obama. Before we move on to that, we need to make sure those in the office of this presidency currently is held accountable. You can not move beyond and distract from what has been the most colossal mistakes the world has been witness to, the presidency of GWB.

With your continued BUsh support and the support of his incompetence and attempts at prejudging Obama, you are not distracting from the accountability that needs to take place. You signed onto that and you are as responsible for the needless deaths in Iraq over the lie that wa propogated in the first place.

The blood is also on your hands, and you are as guilty as him and his cronies. You will not disract us from seeking justice, you will not change the subject. There is no moving on to play your ignorant games. You are accountable and are guilty, and cannot hide from it.

So please quit attempting to change the subject, you are transparent and guilty!

Ya, *** the democratic congress who had no spine, they are responsible as well. I don't play these weak a$$ democrat vs republican games. Crooks are crooks, incompetence is what it is. Bush was way in over his head and it took 6 years for him to finally start to take control of his job, and get 'some' sense about how bad he was fuking things up. By then it was too late.

Not every decision he made was wrong, just some very critical ones, and they were driven by some people with brains and bad judgement.

Blagojevich is so grandiose, bordering on delusional - how could anything he has to say be taken as the truth? It seems obvous that this man heard promises where none existed, because he was so desperate to hear them, or because he assumed everyone else operates from the same morally bankrupt place he operates from.

Let's give Jackson, Jr the benefit of the doubt on this one - Blagojevich has already demonstrated that he can't be trusted.

Nixon won a landslide after Watergate calling it a fabrication of the left wing. Bill and Hillary called it a vast right wing conspiracy. I'm not seeing reasons to presume that the press will not go after anyone if it would sell.

With Bush it would be totally believable, that is for sure. In fact, he would probably be behind it. The Chitown scumbag's corruption is gross, and he is an idiot and should be prosecuted to the fullest, but Bush should be exposed, adn shackled. Bush and Cheney should be wrapped in flags and given a gun and sent to Iraq to pay for thier role in just that scandal alone. Not to meantion everything other embarassment they were in charge of creating.

50 years ago, white folks wouldn't sell a black woman a seat on a bus, and today a Black man can buy a seat in the Senate from a ...jovich. By some measures, that /is/ progress.

Sounds like you're really missing those good ol' days.

Obama knew about "The Chicago Way"and did nothing. JJ Jr. is a close friend and was co-chair for Obama. Rezko ties Blago and Obama. Obama worked for Blago in 2002. Obama endorsed Blago in 2006. Don't tell me Obama stayed above the fray. You made the man, the people elected him, now we have to live with it.

You have proof that Obama was somehow involved (even though he had nothing to gain)?

No? Oh, well, then. He must be guilty, because he's Black, right?

Quit playing the race card CORRUPTION IS CORRUPTION!

        • Posted By: Horrible Bastard @ 12/11/2008 2:20:37 PM

And you're after Obama's wife because...oh, yeah. Because she's Black.

You sound like a RACE BAITER HB.......

          Thank you, Caring

I think HB is attempting to figure out why Obama is being prejudged. Is it predjudice because he is black? There are people out there that are looking for any reason to trash bama, and one wonders what their issue is, sionce they have no proof of anything, is it because they just don't like the way he looks.

So there is no "race" card here, and that is not even the meaning of "playing the race card". There are too many angry Bush supporters out there that can't really get out of denial that they supported the most inept incompetent puppets in modern history, and an embarassment to our gerat country.

Obama has not even spent one day as president and he is already getting blamed for all sorts of sht. So you tell me with some proof. We have proof of the current president,.

If im not mistaken, you are the only one to pull race into the issue.... have a problem with race do we?

I agree wholeheartedly, you elected him and now yo are about to embark in a game of dominoes. Usually, when something is this corrupt there is more than one going down. I hope his wife is the next one to be indicted.
