Why the race card? It's not necessarily about race...It's Illinois politics! Crying the race foul just shows that you can't defend their accompishments or lack therof. I remember what Sr. was like in the 60's and 70's, but I don't consider it racial...I just think he's scum. Why isn't it ever considered racial if Bush or LBJ, or Nixon or Clinton are scrutinized? They have a race, too...It's just not the RIGHT race. Sorry, no compassion from me, here. A crook is a crook. A spade is a spade!

Most of the nonracists I know wouldn't use phrases like 'A spade is a spade!' in such a context.

Got what you were saying, but the "spade" part kind of threw me...

Isn't there a possibility that Blago only mentioned Jackson's alleged pay to play offer as a way to raise the stakes on some other candidate? Perhaps it never happened, no "emissary" ever came to him, but he simply made up the whole thing to wield leverage over whomever's rep he was talking to at the time? People do that all the time; "I've got a better deal elsewhere" "Such and such is offering more than that...", etc, even when there's no such deal/offer. I don't doubt the possibility of such dirty politics from Jackson or any other politician, Chicago based or otherwise, but perhpas Blago was bluffing... just sayin'...

Illinois is my home state and it saddens me to see all of this happen. I'm surprised but not shocked because Illinois politics is cutthroat. Jesse Jackson Jr. is a great congressman and I hate to see him get caught up in all of this. Like his father, "the Rev" Jackson Jr. has a penchant for public service but is not a grandiose media hog like his father is. Jr. has a name and popularity but not the money. Even if he had wanted to Jackson Jr. doesn't have the million dollars cash plus half million in contributions to give Blagojevich. Now there are many in IL politics with both the inclination and the money to spare but Jesse Jackson Jr isn't one of them.

I remember when G.W. Bush was elected the first time, and Jesse Jackson Sr. had planned a protest against him. Somehow, the "news" that Jackson had a young child outside of his marriage sprung up. Now with G.W. Bush leaving the Whitehouse, one of his federal prosecutors suddenly brings to head an investigation that names Jesse Jr. specifically ,though for the record, saying that he is not under investigation. Am I just paranoid, or is there a vendetta being played out against the son of the offending father. GW is funny that way. Remember Iraq's Hussein insulted
GWH Bush, and you see where that got him AND us. People in Illinois and the feds have known about Blagojevich for years, Why now? Blagojevich does not seem to be the brightest bulb in the pack, so couldn't this have been done sooer?

hopefully, the apple falls far from the tree. JJ Sr couldn't wait to give his support to Dollar BIll Jefferson, the thief from Louisiana

    Thou doest protest too much.....

Blagojevich is so grandiose, bordering on delusional - how could anything he has to say be taken as the truth? It seems obvous that this man heard promises where none existed, because he was so desperate to hear them, or because he assumed everyone else operates from the same morally bankrupt place he operates from.

Let's give Jackson, Jr the benefit of the doubt on this one - Blagojevich has already demonstrated that he can't be trusted.

I'll say this much: When American policiticans screw up, they don't screw around. This is like watching a locomotive going off a cliff, pulling most of the train over with it.

No one on the governor's lst should be given any consideration - they may all be complicit in tryig to buy the seat. Give the job to a non-politician classified as an independent.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 12/10/2008 8:57:27 PM

Maybe Nixon and Agnew should have been replaced by non-politicians classified as an independent.

If a senator is going to be named maybe they need to name a non-politician to the post. That might be the only way they have a chance to get someone honest and decent. The Governor should resign tomorrow or be impeached if that is possible in Illinois. Just get rid of him period.

This Illinois governor story presents a very corrupt and greatly disappointing situation that has to be truly upsetting for Illinois taxpayers. It makes one wonder once again, what do we have to do to be able to trust our elected representatives? I lived in the Chicago area for many years and, as is being reported, it is true they seem to have more than an average amount of corruption but, as we have literally experienced, there is also enough to go around on the national level and really any is just too much. The question then becomes, how can voters make informed decisions to keep these individuals from ever getting into office? There is no sure way of course but one thing that strikes me is that the individual personalities really always do give indication of what they are apt to become; they aren???t born the day they take office and any dishonesty, self-indulgence, lack of having any conscience, and/or a bold, arrogant aggressiveness will be apparent to anyone who wants to look. And then, once these things are recognized, to then expect anything else from them would be totally naïve and probably stupid. Like they say, ???you can???t get blood from a turnip??? and by the same token you can???t get honesty, responsibility, conscientious behavior, sincere concern for others and/or unselfish conduct from a sociopathic personality as you simply can???t get something that just isn???t there. And for sure you really can???t trust anything they say, no matter how appealing it may sound or how much it may directly address your own concerns. The fault isn???t connected to any one bias, not Republican or Democrat, not conservative or liberal, not Christian or non-Christian, not any ethnic, race, gender, religion, natural-born citizen or whatever, as it is strictly an individual personality trait demonstrating their propensity for the problems. It was apparent in this Illinois governor and it was completely apparent in GWBush as it really is in SPalin. The point being that it is absolutely necessary to put more emphasis, more concern/weight on determining the quality of the individual than on how much they appeal to our own biases, which, especially with the sociopathic personality, likely is simply their deceptive effort to manipulate our opinion. To put it more to the point, the voters really have to be more sincerely conscientious, more diligently responsible and truly more unselfishly objective. In the final analysis, the problem is really the voters to solve.

A classic example of one party in power too long leading to corruption. Pittsburgh has had democrats in power longer than the Soviet union existed. The economy is shot any people have moved away. RI has a similar problem. San Diego I think has the same issue wit Republicans that you have in Chicago with Democrats.

We need competition from viable third and forth parties. The press has not done its job. why does this come out about a month after the election when its been going on for years? We should have had a split government so there would have been some honesty.. now we'll be in trouble because the "mainstream" press according to those who look for objectivity is biased. you can google the results from the last election for example.. unfortunately its been this way for decades.

The truth is i am not a great fan of Bush but this reminds me or what happened to Carter. Quite similar.
We wasted 30 years and did nothing after the first oil/economic crisis i bet we do again.

What is troubling about Jessie Jackson Jr.:

    1. Hires a lawyer.
    2. Advises he won't answer questions after news conference in which he says he did nothing.

People who have nothing to hide-- should speak out.
