Allegedly, Rice asked you to arrest a former ISI chief, Gen. Hamid Gul. There have been stories that Gul is tied up with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. I remember Benazir talking about how bad Gul was.
Hamid Gul is an actor who is definitely not in our good books. Hamid Gul is somebody who was never appreciated by our government. She [Rice] did not go into specifics, if I may share that with you …

He has not been accused in the Mumbai incident … I think he is more of a political ideologue of terror rather than a physical supporter.

What do you need in order to move faster? Do you need real-time intelligence?
Of course. For instance, a lot of people are [saying] that they knew about this attack. I've heard that the Russians told the Indians, but I wish the Russians had also shared it with us.

The Indians are asking you to send them people to bring to justice, right?
[We] don't have that kind of relationship yet. America and Pakistan have hardly gotten to the position where we can interact and exchange information.

So you will not send anyone to India?
No, that is a decision to be made by the Parliament and not by the president.

Do you control Pakistan or does the Army control Pakistan?
Democracy controls Pakistan … All the players today understand that democracy is the only way.

So if you say there will be no first strike against India as you did will the Army listen to you?
Of course. It goes without saying.

Do you think India has a problem with its own Muslims? Were Indian Muslims involved [in the Mumbai attacks]?
I am not pointing fingers as I want to improve my relations with India … I want to be a friend of India and a friend of the world and [a foe of terrorism] because I am a victim myself.

There is always room for improvement on every side. There is room for the world to help me with the present situation in Pakistan, where poverty is a friend of the terrorists. I need to become economically better so I can employ these youths that [the terrorists] are employing.

In the end there is no point in India and pakistan bickering and fighting constantly as we all are wasting our energies leading us to no where. It is in interest of both countries to stop wasting their time and energies fighting with each other and encourage cooperation, friendship , creating jobs, trade to make lives of our peoples better. Life is too short to waste in such kind of perpetual hatred.

ferozj makes sense. boforce is LOL. Religion is a personal matter like in America and other Western countries. I think in Pakistan it is religion which has enetered politics that has made the mess Pakistan is in right now. Hindoo activism in India - one can call it in many ways but mostly it is reactionary and their are some bad elemnts like narendra modi and few others that are using religion to gain political advantage. To a fair minded person what happened in gujarat was wrong. Wrong in what first muslims started and then hindoos did.
But what happened in mumbai was completely wrong. When India has given evidence to Pakistan it is also in Pakistan's interets to close down those terror camps and also to hand over the terrorists brains behind mumbai terror attacks. Also Lashkar Janghvi is behind marriot bombings and also behind recent car terror attacks in lahore. Pakistani civilian government should be supported so it has full control over its military and isi. This religion based hatred should stop permanently.

Shah Rukh finally you have seen how we are selves are suffering from the extremism brought about by years of conflict imposed upon both countries and the region by others be it the US, Soviets who ever. This scourge can only be tackled collectively and without prejudice and with keeping in mind whats best for both India and Pakistan. Collectively India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh can be an economic power house with 30 percent of the worlds population and talent in the region.

We must begin with enhancing people to people contact which will automatically translate into economic and cultural comity between the people who essentially all come from the same background.

Religion should be set aside as that is a personal issue between man and god.
