There's a political bargaining chip ready to be used; i.e., if you want more and better equipment, USE IT! Use our top gear to hit the border strongholds, eliminate your internal political games, and get on with it. as the guys in Portland say "just do it!".

So Anaj, Pakistan army last 1200 lives and unable to capture even single high level leader of Taliban or Alquida?? Wow!! thats great achivement in fighting 4 years againest Terror. India was trying to deal with Pakistan with diplomacy for 20 years. Pakistan doesn't want to act on terrorists. So what other option India has other than to strike terror camps in Pak. USA is doing that anyway in Pakistan. So what happened to Pakistan's Nuclear bombs and what happened to world's 5th largest military??

Well , while i respect other views , jbut i reserve the right to reject them as unfounded and baseless. I am alright with the opoinion of Charanjit Singh , because he is programmed to have those views being an Indian.

But for the rest of the readers I would just like to comment that it is the PAKISTAN ARMY that has suffered the most casualities in the WAR on TERROR , with numbers as high as 1200 .On the other hand , Britian with only 100 casualities in Afghanistan boasts to be at the forefront of this war.

And the Pakistan Army is working in a completely differnt scenario too. We have to differntiate b/w our own men and the militants , on one hand we are ensuring minimum civilian casualities and on the other engaging the terrorist outfits. While Allied forces in Afghanistan are on a foreign soil where they can go on killing civilians dubbing them as ALQAEDA and the Taliban.

Secondly , when our government put forward a proposal to mine or fence the border with Afghanistan the Allies donot agree on that too. This shows our sincerety towards the cause. The border b/w Pakistan and Afghanistan is very porous , with families living divided on either side of the border. And for centuries people have been moving freely until now. This border can only be effectively guarded thogh fencing as the US did in case of it's border with Mexico to ward off illegal immigrants.

It has been established now through researches that almost 90% of the insurgency in Afghanistan is involves local Afghans and only 6% can be assumed to be coming from across the border. So why so much emphasis on this 6% while neglecting the major chunk that is inbred.

Then there is the political context , the british and the US masses can't even see the casualities of their professional soldiers in Iraq, let alone fellowcitizens and are demanding withdrawl. Earlier i thought that soldiers are supposed for war , but I was mistaken. But on the contrary they are demanding the Pakistan Army to keep on fighting and continue laying down lives not only of their fellow colleagues but also of fellow citizens in the garb of collateral damage.

Cutting short, the Pa is rightful in demanding all these weapons because our lives are precious too and we too have a political govt. that has to toe the public sentiment.
And it is absolutely right on the part of the Pakistan Army to demand it's allies for sending more gear.

Hey Mr. True_Indian what a rubbish advice you are propagating., that India should conduct surgical strikes. Why don't you forget that Pakistan is not Afghanistan. It is a nuclear state , with the fifth largest army and an equally able Air Force. This piece of advice is synonomous to an invitation for playing with fire.

  • Posted By: True_Indian @ 12/19/2008 3:29:06 PM

US should stop funding Pakistan which is a terrorist state. There is no control on the terrorists in Pakistan as there are open links between army, ISI and Terrorists. Pakistan was claiming that it was fighting with terrorists for more than 4 years. How come there are open terror camps running in POK and Lahore?? How come these Let terrorists are managing their bank accounts openly in Pakistan? Now this house arrest drama. Pakistan is saying that Let and Jeish terrorists are in house arrest? How many times they will put them under house arrest? what they are trying to achive by house arrest? LeT leaser was put under house arrest in his own home which is having 15 floors. News papers published that he can meet any visitor and he can conduct his activities as usual. So Pakistan wants to fool the world. Now every one in the world knows what is Pakistan all about and how sincere it is in the fight againest terrorism. India should conduct surgical strikes and remove these terror camps as the US is doing in the north.

Pakistan claims it built the nuclear bomb. Pakistan claims it developed its own long range missile technology. And now Pakistan claims that it is unable to fight terrorists because America didn't give it night vision goggles and 8 cobra helicopters!

Every month news pictures show Pakistanis burning the American flag, yet they have no ego in asking for aid from America.

  • Posted By: jbz7879 @ 12/19/2008 9:50:28 AM

pakistanis should concentrate on getting more themselves and not depending on the americans who deceived and deserted them in 1965 and in 1971

they should have learnt their lesson by now

americans reflect the worst imperialistic and colonial tendencies in history which makes ancient rome look like an amateur,
how can any one trust people who lie to their own people

For God sake, when the Americans are going to learn that Pakistan is the enemy - not an ally ?! USA keep calling Pakistan an ally on the war against terror groups;Taliban/al qaeda. But has Pakistan done anything to look like an ally ? Of course not. When hundreds of supply containers for US and NATO are set on fire on daily basis by Pakistan's spy agency, ISI, how can you call Pakistan an ally ? From 2001 upto now America has showered Pakistan with money and military aid but Pakistan instead of acting like an ally, it keeps retraining and regrouping the Taliban to fight the American and NATO forces in Afghanistan. The 9/11, London bombing, Balli massacre, Mumbai attacks, all have Pakistani hands in them, how can you call Pakistan an ally ? Pakistan has grown into a blood thirsty Satanic state which seeks happiness in shedding human blood, our blood. The United Nations, the United States, European Union, NATO, the G8 and the Arab League, all must come together and confront this Satan with a united force. If we want to win this war on al Qaeda/Taliban,we have to bring Pakistanis to their knees. Today, Pakistanis terorrise us with Suicide Bombing and Kalashnikov, tomorrow they will certainly hit us with their nuclear.

I have to comment that I completely disagree with the authors assesment. Its NOT the equipment that is needed, but the will to do the job.Whats the reason for USA to be *** on the supplies?Because some "very clever" generals were diverting the resources to anti-India maneouvres rather than focus on the war on terror.General Musharraf played this game of hunting with the hounds.." very well until the USA got wiser. Now it seems they got the articles author to write what they WANTED-Give us supplies, otherwise all is lost.Who is the loser?First-the foot soldier who has to work in inhosptable terrain,second-the common man in the Urban areas who will become targets of the terrorists as a result of inadequate clearing operations by the Pakistani soldiers,third-the the US government or any other donor who falls for this story and contributes to the Pakistani army to aid the war on terror.Whos the gainer-The fat and clever generals who pocket resources, cry for more and maintain Pakistan as a breeding ground for terrorism for their own existence.

Yeah, the problem is WHERE the Pakistani military uses what we give them, and what our gifts allow them to do besides focus on the Taliban. Basically, it's a pack of lies.

Pakistan is a great nation and there are many things to write home about. There are problems, is there a country that has no problems. Even the greatest nations went through a turbulent period where every day there were questions about their very existence. Can you forget that United States of America nearly split into confederates and the unionists? Only with the great leadership of Abraham Lincoln and some luck did America stayed together after the confederate army was defeated at the Gettysburg. And look where USA is today. We must tell our people that there is hope at the end of tunnel. Look what we have achieved in the last 60 years, a country with no infrastructure to speak of and which did not even have a needle to bind papers at the time of independence is now feeding 170 million people.
Yes there is corruption and bad governance but does that mean that we tell our people everyday that your country is going to finish tomorrow. Lets give them something concrete steps to think about and work on, lets give them some ideas to survive and prosper and this is my belief that if we keep doing our work as opinion makers than eventually the word will get through and we shall see our great country of Pakistan at the top of ever positive endeavour in the world. Let???s take our country back.
Please visit my blog at www.real-politique.blogspot.com to get some ideas about how we can achieve that. Please also leave your own ideas if you think that my ideas need improvement.

Au contraire....Killing other Muslims is a long standing Muslim tradition! The political systems of Islamic countries are based largely on the ideas of "last man standing", "might makes right" and "legislation through assassination". The Islamic vote comes in 30 round magazines, and anyone who says differently has not studied their history.

Don't forget that we are approaching December 17th the anniversary of the liberation of Bangladesh, which ended the bengali Muslim genocide. The Pakistani Army calls itself a ' Muslim' Army, but it had no compunction in butchering 3 million Bengali Sunni Muslims. Shias and Ahmediyas are fair game in Pakistan, which is why Iran is anti Pakistan. Please google 'Bangladeshi Genocide 1971' and read whicever links that you trust. The sad part is after claiming the world record for murdering the highest number of Muslims , the Pakistani Army claims Islamic credentials. How can they be Islamic

Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Mr Saeed says, "Allah has told us to make atom bombs. America is telling us not to. Who should we listen to O Muslims, Allah or America?" Mr Saeed continues to urge all Muslims to give of their assets and themselves to the cause of jihad against India. "Kashmir will not be solved by talks, not by American arbitration, not by its division but only by jihad, jihad, jihad!" He said jihad was once used to save the Christians and that the murder of Hindus is not only justified, it is nearly a holy duty. "The Hindus were terrorists yesterday, they are terrorists today and they will remain terrorists tomorrow. We are right in seeking revenge from these spawns of evil."

Such fiery sentiment may all be bluster, one analyst points out to TFT. "However, (Mr Saeed's) point about allegations of cross-border infiltration not been provable in a court of law, or justice as he called it for some symbolic reason perhaps, is interesting. He is either bluffing, simply making these statements to rile the public. Or he is actually pursuing action aware of how the law works and circumventing it."

Mr Saeed, a former engineering professor, is of keen mind. The mosque address, even in taped form, is not permitted under law (see Maintenance of Public Order law, Article 16) and sources in the government claim Mr Saeed had "promised" not to make any such statements following his release from house arrest late last year and would stay muzzled. Sources close to Mr Saeed say, however, that no laws are being broken: "He is entitled as a citizen of Pakistan to freedom of speech under Article 19 of the Constitution."

Article 19 states: "Every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression ... subject to any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the interest of the glory of Islam or the integrity, security or defence of Pakistan or any part thereof, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, [commission of] or incitement to an offence."

Pakistan doesn't need more military gear. She needs to improve the economy, provide more jobs and development for the country. Unlike the US, Pakistan can't afford to waste money on the military spending. (Even the US is now feeling the pinch on the never-ending military spending). The Pakistan government is more interested on military ware just because the amount of momney is huge that a substantial amount could be diverted into personal coffers without making any scandal.

Note that more jobs will make the people pre-occupied with earning a good living rather than robbing around and involving in crimes. Instead by spending more on military, the government in robbing the country. The Pakistan government is being self-centred, short-sighted and foolish. But this kind of government has been the nature of Pakistan that she has never had a real strong and stable government since its inception. That is why the US is going to invade Pakistan soon because the Pakistanis are pre-occupied with other things. The US will be able to control the oil flow from Iran to China, India and any trade through Pakistan. The US will be able to use Pakistan as a base for whatever missiles poised to China, India, Iran, Afghanistan and Russia. The Pakistanis will then be bombed and women and children will be at the mercy of the US army. The Pakistanis must start waking up!
