How about reading the "whole" book....not just the sections that pertain to the point that you're trying to get across.

Beliefs, especially religious beliefs, are so hard to change, even hard to challenge without the sky falling for those who hold those beliefs. After all, religious beliefs are taught to most of the "faithful" at 5 years old, way before a person has any cognitive capacities to think through what they are being taught. They are hard to challenge because along with the teaching of beliefs is the "rule", "Don't question your beliefs." BUT that doesn't make beliefs truthful or correct. Look how many VERY serious and evil "mistakes" Christian religions in the U.S. have made. They supported vigorously, using the Bible for justification, SLAVERY, the oppression of WOMEN as seducers and inferior to men, SEGREGATION. All of these beliefs were based on scripture. We are slow learners. We are doing exactly the same evils against gays, lesbians, and transgenders with another abusive interpretation of the Bible. What happened to the message of love, inclusion, and judge not- -less you be judged.....only God the Father is judge? Why do Christians find Love so hard and the judgment of those who are different so easy?

Sjhess: as a "brainwashed, evil, hater and stupid" catholic, I do believe in separation from religion and state. It is a very stupid thing to combine them both. The problem is, that you fall in the same game and tactics of the ones you "despise": yoyu go bashing religion like if were really into it, and only defend your side. Quite hypocritical when I come to think of it.

You see, I believe that "marriage" is a word that it has a different meaning depending were applied. State should define marriageas" the union of two persons' values, properties and interestests until ended (divorce?)", and religion has the right to keep his rules.

Problem arises when any of the two groups try to break in eachs territories. Religius persons trying to make their ways on the Contstitution, making their religion the law, and therefore, making the US a theorarchy; and when gay persons are trying to invade a religions customs and mock religion, and marring in the religious' temples or places of worship.

I've also hate the fanatics who use a noble book as the Bible or Quranto wage war and spread hate. But go calling names and attacking religion is the same thing those fanatics are doing right now to our Bill o' Rights.

I wish that the state and religion never mixes, and that gay people have the same legal equality heterosexuals or closet-hiders anjoy. After all...God never mentioned that homosexuality was a sin, because he never wrote the Bible. The Bible it is the word of God, but translated to the confusing, defective and ignorant language of Man.

Newsweek, Thank you very much for writing the article on The Bible and Gay Marriage it was a breath of fresh air for me. I was so happy to read it. What everyone seems to lack the understanding of is once religious people are allowed for control other people and how other people should like their lives it become and endless cycle of control. Religious People have an agenda and want to control more and more. They are never satisfied with the amount if control they have.

I don???t believe in religion but I do believe in god. I despise the religious cherry picker that puck out words from the bible for hate, and use the bible as a weapon. Let???s not forget religious groups have wage war in the past. I would say here in the US the religious right is at war to gain control of the United State of America. The religious right claims other groups have an agenda but it the religious right that is the problem and the farthest thing for being the solution.

Religion is the biggest scam in the world, the religion industry sells a product they will never be held accountable for, and no human being on this earth can prove it right or wrong. If religion is so beneficial to everyone why do some many people live in poverty? Like I stated above its and industry and people all over the world are sold a product that makes them feel good based on basic control concept similar to being brain washed, its called guilt, hate and fear.

As to why people are so stupid as to not understand that religion sucks off of society and provides so little in return. When has religion build a Bridge, or a Highway in the US. Our forefather wanted a separation between church and state and today I know why more then I have every known before as to the reason why.

The Bill of rights Amendment 1 clearly states ???Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion???. This amendment was to keep religion free for people to practice how one what???s to practice religion. This amendment also keeps people free from the evil of religion being place upon their lives. This amendment keeps people free to truly purse their own happiness with or out religion.

As a California resident, I have seen the awful and unfair mess that Proposition 8 has brought our supposed liberal state. I enjoyed this story! It is about time that someone actually quoted verses from the bible. These days hardly anyone actually follows the bible literally.

I also agreed with the writers who said that there were more verses that condemned divorce. When I heard these religious fanatics, who had claimed they wanted to protect the "traditional" marriage. The only way to protect this supposed "traditional" marriage would be to ban divorce. Great story...Thanks Newsweek!

The idea that the Bible, in any way, endorses homosexuality is laughable. But when you want to make a point take anything out of context and you can make the words mean anything. For example the Bible (given the proper picking and choosing) mandates suicide. Perhaps the people who feel that gay marriage endorsements exist there, should read the instructions given by Jesus to his apostles...

Jesus said to Judas "That which you go to do, do quickly"
    Then Judas hung himself.

Later Jesus said, "Go ye forth and do likewise."

Maybe those who think that Gay marriage is endorsed in the Bible can also see themselves free to follow these words of Jesus?
