Shouldn't we have a breather from election talk? we just had an election, I know there is some withdrawal but for goodness sakes...this is getting old.
and there is NO WAY the GOP elects a brown skinned guy over Palin....I dare anyone to challenge this.

Good question, but I think Jindal has a shot. He's smart, so he won't alienate the remainder of the GOP that can actually think. As far as the base goes, they might just love the way he prostrates himself before the Idol of Bubba.

Hell, they loved Clarence Thomas, and he hasn't disappointed them yet.

At least Jindal can provide a VALID Birth Certificate, making him a legit candidate,....something a well known dumocrat activist attorney has been suing to get obama to provide, for quite sometime...!

NO WAY the Republic (yeah, I'll play that game too) party will ever choose a non 'born agin' over a 'Real American'!!! The party of the angry white man is just too hide bound...they cant help it.

Let's get down to the real reason why Republicans love him. First, he has dark skin, and that's so in at the moment. Secondly, he's a Christian. His parents were dirty heathens, but he "saw the light". (If he were a Hindu, we would not be having this discussion, period.) In the end, Bobby is just a smarter version of Sarah Palin, but still a TOKEN. Obama wasn't a token, but got to where he was because he said the right things, and people looked up to him. Until Republicans stop trying to find out "what will sell", they will never triumph.

I live in Louisiana and I believe that Bobby Jindal is the best thing that has happened to the state in a long time. For about 2 weeks after hurricans Gustav Bobby gve twice daiily updates on status and progress of recovery and recovery supplies for the state. His knowledge of details was astounding. He pushed through ethics reform his first few months in office. The debates over the ethics laws changes revealed many politicians felt they were part of a privilidged class. The teachers union did not back Bobby because he wanted teachers pay increases based on perfomance, not accross the board raises. The teachers are against this even though the state is having to take over poor performing schools. He is doing well for the state, but he in his wake a lot of upset people who did not want change.

    • Posted By: lj4adotcomdan @ 12/15/2008 6:25:50 PM

Underdog: Jindal removed his office from the public records law and made it harder for people to be convicted of ethics violations (meaning they are more likely to get away with it). Is that the ethics reform Jindal promised? If so, I don't want any part of it.

As someone from the state of Louisiana, I would like the gov. to stop traveling or whatever and get to work here. In Louisiana we still do not have one single Katrina cottage built, we don't even have a plan for what one will look like if is built. The money at this rate will be given back to the US government in Aug. 2009 because it has not been used. I am hoping someone in another state can throw a hint and ask him infront of the press "When are you going to get a Katrina cottage built?". We the people of Louisiana cannot seem to get his attention on this matter.

As someone who lives in Louisiana I want Jindal to keep traveling the country. The citizens of Louisiana who voted him in deserve to see the real person that he is. The more he gets national attention, the more the media spotlight will FINALLY shine on him and show the world who he really is. Those of us who have known who the real Jindal is from day one will be vindicated. THEN we will have a chance to try and elect someone who really cares about this state and not his political career. Because the more Jindal stays in this state, the more harm he will be able to bring to this state. So far he has eliminated transparency on the office of the governor and made it harder to convict people of ethics violations. How much more do you want him to do for this state?

  • Posted By: CRbirdie @ 12/15/2008 12:00:11 PM

Ok, so I don't get it. I live is southwest Louisiana and I don't understand why the Republicans are so enamored with Jindal. He's done nothing note-worthy in the state. He does like to put hiring freezes into effect which cripples workers who are in place trying to do their jobs (Yes, I am an employee of the state.) But other than these constant hiring freezes, I can't point to one thing that makes him stand out. Unless, of course, you considere his skin-color. He would be the Republicans' token 'not white person' so that they look as if they are inclusive and actually care about people. I mean, they did it to Palin. She was their token 'not white male'. Jindal would be no different. And yes, I do believe the Republican party is that slimey and will go that low. They are evil, vindictive, and corrupt and care only about money and power. They don't give a flyin' hoot about this country or the majority of the people living in it.

CRbirdie: One thing that made him stand out was that he eliminated his office from the public records law, leaving Louisiana dead last in transparency rankings by the Citizens Access Project. He also made it harder to convict people of ethics violations by increasing the burden of proof. Another noteworthy thing was his ability to hoodwink the media and have them buy his garbage hook line and sinker without the desire to ever do any meaningful fact checking. He was also able to convince Louisiana voters that if you opposed him then you MUST be part of the "corrupt crowd". Again, the fact that he pulled that off is quite noteworthy.

Sounds like an accurate description of the Southern Democrats that have been ruining the city of New Orleans and the State of Lousiana since long before I was born. Edwin Edwards, the Morials, Sheppard, Jefferson...the list could go on for days.

I think Bobby Jindal is just what the Republican Party needs. He is young, articulate, well-educated, has more politcal experience prior to his election as governor; and done a fantastic job with Louisiana during his term; compared to a one term Senator that won the Presidency, namely Barack Obama. Bobby Jindal is southern, christian, down to earth and reaches out to the minorities and youth; bespeaking the positive sides of the Republican Party. In the next four years, I think you will see other minorities taking a hard look at the "over the top" excessive liberal Democratic Party; and see that being conservative Republican only means holding values dearer to your heart. You can still be middle of the road Republican and make a positive difference in this nation. Bobby Jindal shows everyone middle of the road and conservative Republicans can come together under one banner and work together. My bet is by 2012 and definately by 2016,, the Obama facade will be worn thin and people will be more than ready to roll up their sleeves, and start looking for more accountable leadership.

    • Posted By: lj4adotcomdan @ 12/15/2008 6:18:54 PM

With Jindal you will get less accountability. He ran on a platform of transparency in government but he removed his office from the public records law. That is sheer hypocrisy.

    • Posted By: Yuseff @ 12/15/2008 3:57:44 PM

What? The Republican Party has a positive side?

  • Posted By: nolachick @ 12/15/2008 9:49:08 AM

Piyush "Bobby" Jindal is the "change" Louisiana has been looking for and sorely needs. He's young, intelligence, energetic, and willing to work for a better Louisiana. I think it's funny that the liberals are getting their panties in a bunch by articles comparing Jindal to Obama, as though Obama invented the word "change." Don't worry, Jindal won't steal any of Obama's thunder for another 8 years.

And, "..a lavish Southern drawl"???? Really!?!? Has the author ever actually heard the man speak?

    • Posted By: lj4adotcomdan @ 12/15/2008 6:17:24 PM

Change Louisiana needed? How do you figure? How was it "change" when he eliminated transparency on the Governor's office by removing it from the public records law? How was it "change" when he increased the burden of proof requirements to convict people of ethics violations, thus making it harder to convict people (and allowing them to get away with their unethical behavior). You can have all the ethics laws you want, if you cannot convict them what good does it do?

    • Posted By: Yuseff @ 12/15/2008 3:59:20 PM

I like Bobby Jindal. I think he is intelligent and sincere but electing a conservative Republican for president really does scare me.

  • Posted By: dbrady @ 12/15/2008 5:47:03 PM

"none has attracted as much speculation, curiosity and unapologetic hype as Jindal"? Um, Andrew, have you ever heard of Sarah Palin? See Alaska, governor.

Has anyone told the republicans Bobby Jindal is not white

  • Posted By: mittzdad @ 12/15/2008 1:09:30 PM

The very thought of equating Jindal with Obama shows how shallow the GOP thought pool is right now: "Let's see; he's young, not white... YEAH - he's JUST LIKE Obama!" Our President-Elect is a very singular individual - neither the GOP or anyone else can "create" another liike him. At least for now, the American public has rejected such tired, jaded politics. Jindal may well be talented, sharp or possess any number of other laudable qualities, but he (and anyone else) will have to run on their own merits - not as a clone of somebody else.

"Jindal may well be talented, sharp or possess any number of other laudable qualities," - and that's what makes him different from the empty suit in the minority costume that just got elected

AWWW Did your poor MCshame lose. Too bad. Obama this Obama that Kool aid, empty suit bla bla bla. I whish you butt heads had scrutinized Bush like this when he took office 8 years agao.

The funniest thing about that "8 years ago" argument I keep hearing: Without dems voting for Bush the second time, he would not have been elected again. Hilarious.

These pukes have not done anything for their own states. Why should we hire them to work on a national level?Obama will be a complete disaster like the district in Illinois he left behind after doing nothing for the people. This country is begging for a real leader and Harvard is not a good recruitment place. Until we take the money out of politics it will be a corrupt place to bad for American democracy.

  • Posted By: ATurnerIII @ 12/15/2008 2:22:15 PM

As a black American, I am insulted when white America's response to a black is to "find their own black or minority". It only begs the question, "Why weren't they looking for minorities before?" When I worked in Corporate America, I witnessed white managers attempt to align a black supervisor with their position whenever then got into conflicts with black employees. Personally, I think this type of behavior is cowardly and disingenious, whether it's done by whites, blacks or whoever. The Republican Party is 99% white. That is evident by their recent National Convention. If you want to support diversity, do it sincerely and BE A LEADER, rather than reacting after you've lost power. Dispicable.
