Mars1isAlive: Well, first off - quit the fighting. Economics - bah humbug. There's many, many other resources to acquire funding our society besides war. Destoration is the only outcome of this old-time mentality. And "we", us Americans, should not be the only one helping countries resolve there issues. It's all countries responsibility also. I am shocked that such behavior is still tolerated in our world today. It's pathetic. I mean, after all, we're in the 21st century now, right?

If Newsweek can waste space giving people shipping guns and landmines into war torn Africa, then maybe, the pirates too deserve their 15 minutes of fame. But in this case, it's actually complicated. The only judgement we can pass is finding the lesser evil among the two- the shipping magnates. But they still are evil. For shipping oil and other non deadly things, it's understandable. But for the Ukranian ship carrying tonnes of deadly weaponry, guns, tanks, landmines, rpg's, into the heart of Africa, God forbid. They are not different from the pirates. It's just a case of two devils fighting each other .

Obviously who ever was interviewed is a naive person. Doing harm to the environment and attacking innocent people on these vessels isn't going to make Somalia a better place. Get a clue people! Instead of blamming the world for all the problems in their country unemployment etc... do something about it in a positive way. Just because one village idiot is missing and is heard doesn't mean the whole country is one. Take personal responsibilty and wake up!

It's all about economics, at the end of the day these so called Pirates go back to there filthy streets in there shanty towns with no running water or proper sewers to be had. This situation is about acts of desperation and self preservation. How can we realy help others in need?

$$$soldier.....Thanks, but no Thanks....my arabic brothers and sisters not once brought harm to me...Bush Jr. did. Besides, these days I get so overwhelmed from visiting my favorite cousin in the VA hospital....wheeling him outside the premises to catch a breath of fresh air....I remember when my cousin could overtake me in one on one basketball...these days I find myself overshadowing him....larger than life....Davey and Goliath....my cousin had both legs amputated....Yeah, I these days I notice that punks are living and thugs are dying....Have fun with the IEDs, during the interim, punks like me will strongly voice support to Presidentail Elect Barack Obama to bring the US TROOPS home to their families....afterall, there's NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

It's all dirty business and very inhuman. From the pirates attacking ships to the shipping companies and countries ferrying guns, tanks, bombs and landmines into Africa. These weapons have become the curse of Africa, maiming and killing millions, changing regimes like knickers after bloodbaths. So in this case there's no hero or villain. This battle between the pirates and shipping magnates is a battle between two devils.

I can't believe a supposedly respected entity such as Newsweek would waste space giving any of these bastard "pirates" any kind of forum at all. It's basically giving the "pirates" a shot of legitimacy, when the only shot they truly deserve is one between the eyes...

$$$SOLDIER: Yes, unfortunately in our world today, force is a requirement. And it's unfortunate that "our US men and women" are having to fight this world battle ourselves. And I agree wholeheartedly (and it doesn't matter what party you practice politically)... OBAMA DOES ROCK and is the new change in our world much needed today. He's the beginning.

Keep yourself safe! And YOU ROCK! ;-)

    Linda in Alaska!

You guys back home rock.Wish we could swap for a day and eat some decent food, lol. Honsetly speaking, one must preempt violence with outrageous force...or in this case, audacious force!
    OBAMA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please Mr. Nordland, if you attempt to write in nautical vernacular, the correct spelling of the term for the top of the side of the ship is "gunwale," not the phonetic spelling of "gunnel."

$$$SOLDIER: In Iraq, eh? Well then you know first hand from your experience. I feel for you, brother. And our troops are always in my prayers.

But again, we must try and resolve our issues other ways then violence.

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you and everyone over seas.

Crime Does Pay....it pays for guns, handcuffs, batons, teflon vests, bullets, overtime pay....When you are the victim of crime eventually you become a product of your environment. The Somalians have been raped for so long and their land plundered by corrupt foreign investors that now they are fighting back. Crime does indeed pay....one boat + cargo = ran$om. For the Pirates it is called L I F E...that is, to say, Learning Is From Experience.

Crime may pay for a while, but it's not the answer. These people should not be made heroes or lionized. They are what they say that they are; EVIL. It is BS that they cannot feed themselves any other way. Tell that to the Somalia that works down the hall from me. When he was 16 he left his family and walked to Ethiopia where a Christian charity sent him to America as a refugee. He went to school and now has a good enough job that he's sending $ home. This is the same problem the world over (the US included); people want the easy way out. Laziness and selfishness always breeds evil. Coddling them does them, and the world, no good. You may as well hand them your entire bank account and then say "Hey, here's my virgin sister, have a go at her."

Yeah, it's great. Merry Christmas! Go OBAMA!!!!!!!!! Nuke the pirates.Genetics that bad should be killed off so we can all get back to making money the old fashioned way; legal theft from inferiors.

CAPT. CANADA: The world issue at hand today is NOT only US's responsibility. It belongs to ALL countries, period. ALL world leaders need to resolve this world tragedy. I mean come on, the US is always there to rescue other countries. OTHERS need to step up to the plate now, and share the responsibilities.

$$$SOLDIER: You are narrow minded, and obviously can't think outside the lines. I'm military brat material. And my father, my uncles, my ancestors were a "soldier" way before you came along, sweetie. Your mentality is what keeps our world at arms. Try to expand your small minded thought process, if it's possible. Grow up.

$$$soldier.....don't talk about killing nobody, nothing, noone...unless you ready to die yourself! Bush Jr. was and still is a hot headed advocate like you, but he dodged his calling to active duty and quick to send a bozo like you on a death mission. Black bags don't discriminate....are you ready, willing and able to journey into one?

  • Posted By: $$$soldier @ 12/23/2008 2:48:22 PM

When it is time to shoot.......shoot, don't talk. Poor pirates.........give me a break. Shoot them.DUHhhhhh.
