The Evil Solution

These pirates are human beings just wanting to survive in this world just like all of us. With their fishing grounds violated with illegal fishing and dumped with nuclear waste from industrial countries, they are left with not much option in order to be productive. Sending battleships, capturing or killing these pirates would not solve Somalia's problem. WFP's effort to spoonfeed Somalia is good up to a certain point but It cannot be a permanent solution either. I have written letters to the United Nation and other government leaders, unfortunately, these leaders would just do what they best - unproductive and wasteful solutions. Are there ways to resolve this issue? Yes. First solution is for these government leaders, United Nation is to learn to listen. Second, understand the humanitary side of the Somalians not only by giving them food but making them productive. Protect their coast - fishing grounds. In the absence of a stabilized government their coast is wide open for other countries to deplete their fishing resources. Prevent industrialized countries from dumping nuclear waste. Help them install a stabilized government and allow them ways to protect their resources in order to be productive in their own ways. This would reduce their dependence on food handouts provided by WFP.

How can some of you logically suggest solving volience with more violence? Escalating the issue won't solve anything. There "pirates" have resolve and violence won't stop them. Why is it so hard for us to try to bring peace to the natioin or AT LEAST perserve their soverignty? Corporations as well as pirates plunder their seas of fish illegally. They have taken up arms in part to stop this and make a living. Why could'nt the "Free World" with all of its power stop the plunder of this small country? Yet most of the posts assume its their fault for being patriotic? I'm not saying i approve of their use of piracy but what else do they have to protect their country? The Free World's top priority is money and morality takes a back seat. If you think otherwise your kidding yourself.

To defeat the pirates one must be ruthless and think and act like a pirate. Enough of the nicesties, we have rockets, bombs etc... Blow them out of the water. We and the other countries need to step it up and be on the same playing field. letting them go isn't helping anyone. Just like the Mexican illegals - letting them go, they try and do it again.

Blowing up the ships seems to be a popular solution according to the post so far. But what about the the Captain and Crew of those ships that are being held captive aboard them? How can you just kill them along with the terrorists? What do you say totheir families? Patience and toughtful planning is the way to do. We have to use pirate methods to take over the ships again.

Just another form of terrorism, heck let's just face it and admit the way to win the "war" against terrorism is to fight this 'intelligence' on it's own level. Blow the thing up, who cares.............want rockets? We've got plenty to send straight up your a**.

People do desperate things in desperate times. As a young man, you can suffer with hunger, but to watch your family starve? that can cause a young man to get desperate. Stop the raping of the seas, our population is our of control,is it to late? have we done ourselves in or is there hope? children are a blessing, but let us bless fewer of them. We are all one people, and we no longer have the luxury to think we are seperate or isolated. we have to take into account that if one suffers we all suffer, because we are all connected.

pirates should be tried and hung on the spot!! innocent workers held and/or shot trying to make a living is wrong. the UN needs to patrol and investigate claims of illegal dumping and fishing and hold wrong doers held accountable with trade sanctions.

To cathygene : Ted Bundy and pirates are killers, yes. They are not the same. They wouldn't do this for a living on a large scale if their fishing waters weren't taken. What are they 'posta do.
