For god's sake people. We have much worse pirates than these guys, by far right here in the USA. As the saying goes, some will rob you with a six-gun, and some with a fountain pen. Just because Madoff and Drier and the scoundrels of Wall Street didn't shoot at anybody doesn't make them better people. They are much worse, because they have alternatives, while these guys don't. These pirates are pretty classy. They treat their prisoners well, don't take revenge on those who fight back. I I were a Somali, I'd be a pirate too.

Would it have helped if I'd used capitalized letters? Its really just common sense; eventually, yes you can get enough warships to effectively patrol those waters. But that will cost a lot of money to a lot of countries that have better things to do with their naval forces than babysit commercial vessels. And like I said, China needs to grow up and learn to deal with its citizens' criticisms before they try to assert influence on the rest of the world.

    Dear Sir,

Is your capture of ships then political or for the money? From fisherman to pirate is a leap. What was the moment you decided to make such a drastic career change? What changed you? Do you see yourself as a political pirate who intercepts weapons sent by outside countries which interfere in African conflicts? Thank you.

    Dear Sir,

Do you capture ships for money or for political reasons? Do you see yourself as running a blockade to prevent outside countries from interfereing and sending weaponry into war-torn African nations? From fisherman to a pirate is a pretty big leap: What changed you? What lead to this extraordinary career change?

Additional warship patrols will accomplish little. And the last thing we need is China expanding its influence. If you disagree with me, try living in China and speaking ill of its government or leaders. What needs to be done is exactly what this man said: Restore Somalia's government, give the citizens legitimate and safe jobs.

Additional warship patrols will do nothing to stop the Somali pirates. And the last thing the world needs is China's influence to expand. If you disagree with that, I suggest you go live there and try to criticize anything the communists do. At any rate, the only way to stop the current pirates is to help Somalia re-establish its government and economy, provide the citizens with legitimate and safe jobs.

It looks like it's going to take Chinese intervenation to put this mess down once and for all. The pirate's tune will change once Chinese warships arrive.

We have pirates here in the U.S. They just wear ties and steal money with computers. They are called CEOs. Their punishment for getting caught is to be given money by the government. It is a low risk/high profit occupation, this American piracy. Steal millions from investors, then walk away with the money to another pirate ship. The Somalis could learn something here.

It???s good to see those who have been exploited fight back the old fashion way.

We need a little bit of that piracy here when it comes to dealing with the con-men on Wall Street who brought us to the brink of economic ruin. But who are getting bailed out to the tune of many hundreds of billions of dollars when their compensation accounts for more than 60% of costs; while the poor hardworking workers in Detroit are expected to sacrifice when their wages only comprise 10% of costs.

I think we should get in on the action; Spain and England did it for hundreds of years and the world loves them.

The US Ambassador to Kenya (Hempstone) wrote a classic warning about Somalia in 1992 before the US deployed troops. Everything he said in his letter (Published in US News & World Reports and the Washington Post) came to pass. It is well worth reading again.
