I agree with you, t.l. Way to speak the truth, dude.

    nd15c,
I was half joking about the condenscending remark. Thought you might have picked it up. No I totally agree with you. Most of what is in the media about Christ is bouge at best. I mean that's a politiclly charged statement either. You can't seriously expcet to have somebody talk intelligently about something they (clearly) know little about. It's insulting to Christians (or at least pathetic) and sad for people who buy into it.

You know, upon reflecting about this a few weeks back, I came to a conclusion. Regardless of the media or what President does what, we (as followers of Christ) already know how the story ends. Things will get worse before they get better. There isn't a way around it. The world will strive for peace and tolerance while same time being intolerant of those of us who believe in the Truth. We will be rejected and the world will be given over to its' ways. Hmmm...only God knows when that time will come...

Its funny how many media outlets and Oprah being one, commented on how important this election is. How important the Presidency is. I guess it wasnt important before? How sad. Our country has a legacy. It has tradition that transends race and party alignment. I hope that President Obama keeps with the tradition. Its not a black or white tradition that is ment to offend. Its not a symbol that is intended to offend either.

And I believe I apologized. Let me ask you this; confronted with a negative situation are you prone to just punch someone out or discuss the "situation" at hand ,and then if you still cannot come to a compromise, take precise action? That's Obama. As for me, I live in the southeast, Florida actually, and our unemployment rate has now reached an unprecedented high and 43% are on some sort of welfare, so I wouldn't advise anyone heading our way looking for a job and a house. MIssissippi, also in the south, is the poorest state in the nation. I am a single parent, formerly employed as a Civil LItigation Paralegal/Case Manager with 19 years of experience and I lost my job and then my house 2 months ago. I'm working (leaving welfare for those who cannot work), but I am making 1/4th of what I have made for the past 19 years. Merry Christmas.

I am Christian and will tell folks that I sit in the middle, more moderate than anything when it comes to my personal views. Not too conservative, not to liberal. And yes I did vote for President Elect Obama. And deciding factor for me was that he was the only candidate that talked about education. I am a teacher in a low economic school where my students barely eat or are bathed. So education and job stability, as well as his family values and the fact that he came from almost nothing, and by the grace of God and the love, support, and encouragement, of his grandmother, and her raising him, he was able to to become President of the United States when no one thought he could.

    DSTeacher,
Question: You say you are a Christian. Good. Did you vote for Barack Obama? If so, why?

This is not to be seen as an attack. I'm simply curious. I have friends who did as well and want to see if the same type of thinking is cross-cultural.

This forum has discussed too much about race. No issues or substance. With freedom and liberty any person can rise to be the President. I guess the minority never thought it would be a reality? So what youre saying is the American dream can be true? So you didnt believe it until it happen? Thee of little faith? Many of You voted for a person because he is of color. This is a great country based on the concept of the founders. Please focus on the issues. Focus on your local politics. The national policy should be one that protects our borders. Takes care of our children thru education and the health of our elderly.

Not trying to be condescending, Christ Follower. Trying to see things for how they are. I can readily admit that Fox News is as full of garbage as Newsweek and MSNBC. I tend to dislike "News" organizations that can't see past their own propoganda. The fact that Newsweek targets Christians specifically just means I am keenly aware of them. They do a story on Jesus or Christianity with a big cover spread a couple times a year and then hammer 'fundamentalists'. They do it even more often in an election cycle. I just regret that most people are mindless sheep and will believe whatever they are told.

The statement regarding Rick Warren in which the reporter asserts, "Warren has said extremely ignorant and offensive things about gay people, and the gay community is understandably upset that Obama has given him this prestigious forum." is misleading and biased.
First of all, as politically incorrect as it may be to say this, the Bible expressly forbids the practice of homosexuality. It also forbids gossip, slander, drunkeness, any sex outside of marriage, dishonoring our parents, and aziness (to name a few). Unfortunately, none of us want to hear that message-especially because we are all guilty!
As a Christian, it's not my place to pass judgment, but it is my place to warn. Scripture tells us that we are to be "watchmen on the wall to shout when danger is approaching." Sin, in any form, is dangerous. It separates us from God and brings heartache into our lives.
The plain and simple truth is that Jesus died for sinners - ALL kinds of sinners. He loves us that much. He knows us by name and cares for us.
For a Christian of Rick Warren's caliber to remain silent would be a grave injustice to any who need to hear the simple truth of what Jesus has done for us. Don't show your bias and your ignorance by slamming him. Perhaps it might be a good idea to learn more of who he is and what he intends.
Often, Christians are accused of being close-minded. Why don't those on the other side, who are busily hurling accusations and name-calling not ever even suspected of having closed minds? I submit that your obvious bias and ignorance tells much more about your own bigotry than Rick Warren's.
    Think about it.

  • Posted By: ChristFollower1 @ 12/20/2008 11:59:39 PM

    Hmmm...that's pretty insightful, nd15c. I sense some condenscending tones....but insightful none-the-less.

to das100- IT IS YOU WHO IS IGNORANT, NOT ANYONE ELSE. President Elect Obama has nothing to do with what President Clinton, President Bush, or anyone else you named did. Your problem is that you are unable to let go of the past in order to move forward. One day you will. My statement is my opinion, not quotes from anyone- Paul, President- Elect Obama, but mine. My comment had nothing to due with your rude, and outrageous views. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine, but you WILL NOT project your ingnorance on me or anyone else that is commenting on this site. No need for you to comment further in regards to anything I say, for you will not get a response from me. Please note that me and my Christian family will be praying for you and yours. May God continue to bless you and yours.

Posted By: jo97t @ 12/20/2008 11:41:37 PMhow sad this forum is. Here are the facts and please depute them if you can:
1.the president was elected by a pretty solid majority vote, plain and simple. Which means if you dont like him, you are in the minority, deal with it.
2.eventually, you will die. (so will I), and so will your racist ideologies. Just like the ones before you. The world will keep getting better and more unified. Nothing you can do about that.

I think Its time for you to look up that time machine on craigs list.

DUDE ..........DO YOU REALIZE HOW CLOSE YOU ARE TO ALMOST QUOTING WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS WILL HAPPEN IN THE LAST DAYS ............. IT WILL BE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE THE ANTI-CHRIST IS THE REAL GOD AND THAT HE MINORITY ARE TROUBLE MAKERS THAT GOD DEALS WITH BY SUBTRACTING THEM FROM THE EARTH IN WHAT THE BIBLE CALLS THE RAPTURE. AND THEN YOU REFERE TO THAT DEATH TIME MACHINE ......... DUDE THE CLOCK IS TICKING AND ALL WHO ARE NOT FOR JESUS CHRIST AND HIS WORD ARE ENEMIES OF GOD

Oh how I love online conversations...everybody has opinion. I'm being serious.

  • Posted By: nd15c @ 12/20/2008 11:53:56 PM

Ahhh Newsweek. The biggest propoganda machine of the left to affect conservative Christians. Always running articles and op-eds about how you can be a Christian and be Pro-Abortion and Pro-Homosexual Agenda. You'll only pick off those who don't believe the Bible and don't believe that Jesus is who He said He is. And I don't know whether such people can be considered followers of Jesus, can they? So getting them out of the corporate body of Christian faith is doing the church a favor, isn't it? Silly Newsweek.

You called me ignorant. Which war(s) had a draft? I know which one did. Its not a vision of war its a vision of princible and action. My fear with Obama is reasoning with people such as a "Hitler Type". Someone that does not believe our vaules of liberty and freedom. Such as the leaders of Iran, Syria and Venezuela. The Democratic Party has that problem with conservatives. Carter and Clinton tried to negotiate with people that don't like us because of our freedom. Obama will stand down or follow the Bush Doctrine. The recession has been in place in the Northeast and out West for years. The South and Southeast is the destination place for people around the country that want a job and a house.

DSTeacher .............SO MANY IGNORANT DUMMIES ......DUDE YOU ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID. THE ONLY RIGHT THING YOU SAID WAS THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD , AND EVEN THEN YOU QUOTED THE WRONG PERSON,................IT WASN'T OBAMA WHO SAID THIS ......IT WAS OBAMA QUOTING THE BIBLE..........THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID THIS ABOUT GOD............'CANT WE JUST ALL GET ALONG' HELL NO WE CANT AND WONT .......KNOW WHY ........ BECAUSE CLINTON IS A LIAR , TED KENNEDY IS A LIAR , AND POLOCY IS A LIAR AND OBAMA IS NO DIFFERENT ...........ALL A BUNCH OF DEMOCRTIC , DUMMYCRATES ...........ALL LIARS

    Crpuryear,
I was reffering to you applauding Melorenee. Her comments weren't great. I used your name as an association. I did not read any of your other posts. I apologize if I was mistaken, however, if you were siding with a comment that was ignorant of Christians...then I just assummed.

bertoli5, my christianity is strong and intact and I have in no way bashed a Christianity, nor would I . My earlier post was this:

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged. Everyone has their own interpretation of the Bible and that is their right in this country. Just one of the rights so many have fought and died for. As for whether or not President Elect Obama practices Muslim ways, when has it ever left HIS lips that he does. So far, only those against him have accused him. As a nation we should be concerned about our President's religious beliefs because they will greatly influence every decision he makes as the world's most powerful man. If you, whomever you may be, are religious, then take solitude in your religion in your way that our President Elect will make the correct decisions. For those of you whom are purely racist and that is your issue, then get the **** over it. I am a 46 year old white woman, who spent my informative years growing up in MIssissippi, who voted for this man and after every decision/choice he has made thus far my confidence in him grows stronger. It is damn time this world woke up and accepted the fact that outside has nothing to do with the inside. CLOSED MINDS ARE THE PROBLEMS OF THIS COUNTRY.

So I ask you, does that make me a Christian basher?
