    that is exactly my point

eft very true but legalizingprostitution would do much the same thing as legalizing booze did to prohibition and the mob ,they both died out when they legalized alcohol

my apologies frankly, i misunderstood your comments
i lived in Geramny for some time. where prostitution is legal in most areas. crime against women in the industry ther is FAR lower than here, and while legalizing prostitution will not solve human trafficing, it will remove one outlet that trafficers can sell their victims. the most effective way to reduce a crime is to reduce the profitable market for it.
it is a matter of economics far more than morality

if sex was treated as a commoditie instead of a marital priveledge there were be less divorce and more safe regulation as well as health benefits(how many of you married people actuallt went and got an aids test done befor you got married or had your spouse go get an aids test to gaurantee they didnt have a disease when you first slept with them(i not only went and got an aids test i took my current wife and had her get an aids test also befor i would agree to sleep with her ,these days a marriage license doesnt gaurantee you wont get a disease atleast if prostitution were legal even the prostitutes would be getting weekly aids tests and it wouldnt be as akward for regular people to go get one (because of my ex wife cheating on me with several different people and i said people because they were not all guys i was tested every two months for 9 yrs just to be sure

EFT read my lips, shug. My only argument is that legalization WOULD reduce disease. It is NOT a given that it would help with the associated issues of violence and human trafficking, which isn't limited to "sex work". Moral behavior is not at issue here,

"The idea that you give yourself to someone for a set amount of money leaves a bad taste in my mouth."

I bet if the amount of money was substantial enough, that taste would get sweeter for you wouldn't it?

I would not want MY daughters doing it, nor would I want my sons to become boxers. Both are risky jobs that amount to abuse of the practitioners' bodies. However, I would not force my belief system on somebody else. In all likelihood the reason there is slavery associated with prostitution is for the same reasons that organized crime became so big during Prohibition and nowadays because of the war on drugs. Legalize prostitution, control where it can be conducted, be sure they stay clean at their own expense, and tax it.

    Ladies,
Look down at your left hand ring-finger. If there is a diamond on it, then you are a prostitute!

Ah, the stereotypical view of the prostitute: frightened, vulnerable, walking the dark streets at night and lorded over by a crack-addled pimp, abused by the john....conveniently overlooking the women who are sex workers on their own terms, who enjoy their work and would just like to be able to work without feeling persecuted and constantly being lumped in with trafficked children and abused streetwalkers. It would absolutely be safer for all parties involved for prostitution to be legal. Prostitution and human trafficking are not the same thing; money passing from the customer's hand to the whore's, safe, clean sex, and a taxable income seems perfectly valid. Ms. Maron noted that places with legal prostitution have more reports of rape and abuse, not less--did it occur to our author that perhaps the number of attacks hasn't increased, simply the number of reporters, now that sex workers in those places don't feel as demonized for doing their jobs as they did before? Until we get over the stigma attached to sex workers and the people who purchase their services, though, this positive change will never come. Americans love sex, but only if it's dirty and full of shame.

Yeah, that stereotypical image of the prostitute, used to justify making it illegal. Does that call girl that Eliot Spitzer was seeing fit that stereotype? Two consenting adults there, doing what humans have done since the human race evolved out of the trees and started to live in buildings. It's a crime to charge 4K an hour for sex, but not a crime to sell yourself in marriage to the highest bidder and garnish his wages if he doesn't keep you happy.

    and frankly:
if it occurrs in a regulated evironment with weekly testing, is that not safer than what we have now? would that not reduce diseases?
when was the last time you were tested weekly? that would make sleeping with a prostitute SAFER than sleeping with YOU!

that is the point i was trying to make

  • Posted By: bubba1939 @ 12/20/2008 10:50:50 AM

any guy anytime for the price of a couple of drinks at a local bar can get laid for free.. that takes some personal interaction like getting to know them etc. the use of a prostitute would be impersonal , just like a service call from a tradesperson .. let them make a buck it will keep them off welfare..by the way im seventy years old and still have never needed there services

  • Posted By: G2G37 @ 12/20/2008 10:49:18 AM

    etfonedhome,

Prostitution and trafficing are related. Legalizing prostitution would help reduce the trafficing in America because of the availability and access to legal assistance would be more viable. Plus, in a regulated industry it is much harder to conceal more blatant acts. Look at Prohibition. Once repealed, the Mob had to find other avenues in which to make a buck.

LOVE the term "sex worker"! kinda legitimizes it already. Legalize it and we'd better start educating our kids about sex because it's still sex with strangersfor all the wrong reasons. a gamble with body and soul.
it's the diseases, stupid. i don't know where you've been and I only have your word for it that you used protection. eeeew!!!

  • Posted By: etfonedhome @ 12/20/2008 10:46:07 AM

    hanger
so legalizing prostitution will do nothing to help those that are being forced into prstitution?

  • Posted By: cowboy2121 @ 12/20/2008 10:45:27 AM

its funny how american woman all want to scream prostitution is wrong and illegal the whole time they are married and getting money from their husbands for the same thing the prostitutes are doing only difference is the prostitutes only have to be paid once for it and the wives get paid every day and if the husband doesnt do what they want then they withhold what?(sex) so basically sex is a commodity and american women dont want to give up their gold mine ,they want to keep prostitution illegal so they can continue to charge the husbands every week for what they might do 5 times that week if he was real lucky and they dont want to have to do without the money for that week that nature plays its role
