Maybe we could have both preachers stick their tongues up each others anus, so we can all be brothers. I mean gay people are just everyone else right?

Billy Graham has prayed for and with presidents many times over the years, as have others. He has written on these matters. Mr Graham instructed us to learn the way amd means of the gospel. This understanding is faith based an is the clear truth for the whole human race. In the end our mistakes will be explained to us. Then we will all know what faith based truely means.

For me the issue is not about two men or woman who want to get married. The first thing I think of is hypocrisy. Daily Christian families are divorcing and not once do I hear anyone or any church jumping on the band wagon to stop this or change the Constitution to stop this practice. Like homosexuality, divorce is condemned in the bible. In fact it is pretty clear on the subject of divorce. But alas, these are the same people that scream the sanctity of marriage but have no qualms about divorce and the effect it has on children. Why you say, simple. The bottom line is money. I would bet half of the congregation in many of Christian churches are filled with divorced and most likely remarried people. How many of these people would stay in the congregation if the church started to attack them. Not many. So there goes all that offering money. Personally, I think the gays should start there own referendum on divorce. There should be a constitutional amendment to protect us all from this ungodly practice. After all it is the sanctity of the family we are trying to protect here, isn't it?

    HEY ! SEABISCUIT.

YOU SAY " HATE BEGETS HATE " AND YOU CERTAINLY PROVE YOUR POINT IN YOUR COMMENTS.

YOU ARE AN ANGRY GAY .

    I GUESS !

THERE IS A LOT OF HARM DONE BY GAY BEHAVIOR AND GAYS ON THIS BLOG DENY THAT HARM.

    AIDS IS JUST ONE WRONG.

STRAIGHT PEOPLE NEED TO WALK A HEALTHY COURSE ALSO.

I AM NOT A BIBLE LOVING PERSON; BUT, I DO FOLOW THAT FROM CHILDHOOD TRAINING.

GAYS WANT STRAIGHT PEOPLE TO DENY THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS WRONG ------- WHY ?

SOME GAYS WANT TO CONTAMINATE ADOPTED CHILDREN, TO SCREW UP THEIR MINDS .

The gay outrage is fully justified. There is no doubt in my mind that Jesus of Nazareth would have some choice words for Rick Warren if he were here. There are much wiser, much more holy men that Obama could have picked. But remember the stakes Obama is playing for -- actual meaningful change -- and the sad realities of our world today. For him to do measurable good, he will need the support of the conservatives. That is going to mean picking some battles -- and some concessions right up front. LGBT folks, I'm sure Obama has your best long-term interests in mind. Look past this to future things it might help enable. First we have to get everybody back to the table. We've had eight years of moronic, unproductive hard-headed behavior, and people have just stopped hearing each other.

I think this whole discussion is good but also pointless. If we can have Warren (against gay lifestyle) at the beginning and Joseph Lowery (in favor of gay lifestyle) at end, then what is the problem? Looks like a step towards unity and inclusiveness to me. Don't you think?

Anyone who thinks a person chooses to be gay is someone who has not lived with the discrimination against gays and lesbians. Why would anyone choose to be discriminated against, to hide their love life from their loved ones, to not be protected under the law when you raise a child with your partner, to not be able to leave your partner a safety net when you pass away because she/he cannot collect your social security, like heterosexual tax payers. People kill themselves everyday because they cannot accept who they are, because they are told by ignorant people that they are sinners. Ignorant people who cannot see past their own vanilla existence, need to finally relize that we come in all different shapes, sizes, colors and sexual orientations. Chances are every human being knows someone who is homosexual. They just haven't been told. So, to all you fellow gays and lesbians, come out! Let the world know that there are many more of us than the world is aware of. We are doctors, professors, teachers, politicians, athletes, actors, and everything else under the sun. And, contrary to the ignorant belief that who we are is a sin, we were made this way, and we just want to be protected under the same laws that all the other taxpayers are protected under.

unorthodox, have you read the ten commandments. I'd say thats where it condemns both polygamy and polyandry.

    • Posted By: unorthodox @ 12/20/2008 8:39:23 PM

The commandment you speak of is against adultery: intercourse by a married person outside of marriage. Intercourse with one of one's wives if one ia a male, or with one of one's husbands if one is a female, since it is with somone one is married to, is not adultery.

Are you people aware of the fact that there was a world of brilliant scholars before Christianity was invented and there is a religious world outside of Christianity today if religion is the issue. But also are you aware that some of the greatest figures in history were gay: Plato, Socrates, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci for instance? Do you like Michelangelo's Sistine ceiling painting of the creation of Adam for instance???????? Warren doesn't allow gays into his church and what is so offensive to gays is his comparison of gays to sex offenders and pedofiles. I am not gay nor black nor a male. But I know from so many of my friends that people do not choose to be gay. This condition chooses them!!!!!

  • Posted By: GomezAdams @ 12/20/2008 8:37:31 PM

Obama picked Warren because of his moral leadership in the world: The subjugation of females and the termination of their reproductive rights andObama and Warrens shared views that homosexuals be denied the Right of "Civil Marriage". Obama wants it both ways. To say that he is "pro gay and lesbian rights", while being aginst gay marriage. Obama is a fraud.

As the human genome is mapped and understood, and as previously noted, examples from the animal kingdom become scientifically documented, what excuse will the fundamentalists use? Lets make some up in an attempt to pin down the source of their hatred: how about 'god didnt make 'those' genes. or how about 'its a choice regardless of the fact gays possess different genes. Of course Im assuming those pinheads even know what genes are. Hatred of those who are genetically different will be a crime in the future

    • Posted By: chelovek @ 12/20/2008 6:47:58 PM

I just saw a clip of an interview in which Rick Warren told the reporter that, even if it could be absolutely proven to him that being gay is genetic and not a choice, his position would not change because he believes that the Bible says it's a sin.
People like Rick Warren are obviously hopeless and any attempt at dialog with him is a waste of time and effort.

Just as it would have been pointless for Jews to try and dialouge with Hitler or the nazi German citizens...You simply have to ascert your rights as a citizen and push past those who claim they have sole ownership. It's exactly like the Taliban/Muslim men creating religious/civil laws telling women what they can wear, to keep women from working, voting, girls from getting an education, justifying 'honor killings...Selfish, self serving laws, it's all the same thing.

Brother, you took the words right out of my mouth!...
I responded to a post from nypeach a few weeks ago( in response the cover story on gay marriage) and this was somewhat the same argument I made in response to their saying that there was no evidence of homosexual behavior in nature, to which I took them to task, saying that MUCH evidence had been gathered since the Christian caveman days of Anita in the 70's and 80's....Poor grasshopper, had much to learn, they all do

and John Lennon "in Heaven" is singing: IMAGINE ...
    Again & again & again & again ....
as He reads all this language used by You all ... and this Hate ?! Where does it come from ?!
    Peace on Earth

Ever heard of the phrase angry black man? There's a reason for it. That's where the hate comes from. Hate begets hate, violence begets violence, the more we allow men to beat each murderously in the ring the more dangerous our playgrounds will be for young boys and girls. We are denied our connection to Christ Conscienceness where we are allowed to embrace in brotherly love, by a homophobic society, it's not homosexuality that's in the closet, it's love. And that's why we're so angry and they are so hateful. They started it. They can live with it. We want our tax paying rights and we want them now. Sorry if we're not so nice, but if that's freedom's price, we don't mind.

I am not African-American. I am not Gay, I am offended by Warren and his pick to be any part of a day, even the week, that has generated more good feelings in this country than we have had for...well let's see, maybe fourteen years!! I am an Athiest which might account for being offended by Warren but there are pastors and others of faith that don't offend me. Warren is not a person of 'good will.' I think that disqualifies him from participation in this particular celebration.

    • Posted By: Romero @ 12/20/2008 8:18:13 PM

When you said you were not gay, or black and started saying that having Rick Warren giving the invocation offended you, I knew you were an atheis before I even read it. If the world was left up to you and yoiur kind we would have anarchy. I voted for Obama and supported him financially and worked on his campaign. If the gays and atheis are allowed to take over the democratic party I will most definitaly switch to the Republican Party next election. I have read much on the newspaper by people who most likely rearly read the Bible that being gay is not a sin. Jesus did not have to teach about homosexuality, he was a Jew, he followed the Jewish law, he would only teach with that which he did not agree with. He came fullfill the Law, not break it. O how misinformed christians we have today. The Bible teaches that in the end days teaching will come about just to please the people, and not necessarily God. I do not hate gays, I just do not approve of their sin. Will I socialize with a gay person? Yes as long as he does not demonstrate his sin in public, and keep it in his bedroom. Before you decide to give the gay community their partnership relationship the title of marriage, you better do some critical research as to how most gay men define marriage. It does not have the normal hetersexual definition. Most if not all of their marriages are open ended. In other words each partner can go out side of the marriage and have sex with who ever they find attrative and willing to have sex with them. The female relationship is different. I think most people are uniformed as to the sexual habits of male homosexuality. I encourage those uniformed libral democrates to research the issue before you support it. I agree gays should be given partnership status with many of the same rights as marriage, but please do not call it marriage. To most people marriage is seen as a very committed relationship, not an open relationship. I know you are going to say that there are marriages today, swingers, that do the same thing. However swinging is not considered normal relationship, but a perversion (sin). The majority of marriage are not made up of members that are swingingers.

How can we have an inclusive nation if people the gays object to are not allowed?

    • Posted By: Fedupwithlies @ 12/20/2008 8:09:40 PM

No, the question is;How can we have an inclusive nation if every time gays and lesbians object to something that denies their existence yet again, the people on the right tell them to shut up and sit down....Melissa Ethridge had it right, GAYS AND LESBIANS across the nation should STOP PAYING TAXES (ESPECIALLY PROPERTY TAXES THAT SUPPORT THE SCHOOLS OF THE RIGHT WING/REPUBLICANS WHO CONTINUE TO LEGISLATE AGAINS THEM - UNTILL THE STATES THEY LIVE IN EITHER ERASE THE GAY MARRIAGE BANS THEY ENACTED IN O4 OR THIS YEAR OR ADMIT GAY AND LESBIAN CITIZENS HAVE THE SAME CIVIL RIGHT TO MARRY AS HETEROSEXUALS HAVE....

You know, I truly respect President Elect Obama's desire to have different voices represented... Perhaps a member of the KKK or an anti-semite will be invited, too... What? That would be ludicrious? Then why it is okay to have a religioui
s bigot there who seeks to dehumanize and devalue gay Americans? Oh, that's right, its still okay to belittle, joke, bash, and hate gays in this nation... Some even say Jesus told em' to do it... They just love to look to the Bible for guidance... of course these dear "Christians" have no problem with the parts of the Bible that might affect them like selling their daughter into slavery or being stoned for working on the Sabbath... Why not? If the Bible is the infallible word of God, I say lets start stoning people... We can start with the heterosexual adulters and work our way down... Again, Jesus told us to!

    • Posted By: Fedupwithlies @ 12/20/2008 8:01:03 PM

Or lets stone the ones who drown thier children in the bathtub, or send their car into a lake with their kids inside, or who mureder their daughter (in Floridah) and dump the body in the weeds...You people on the right do NOT have the monopoly on moral or political judgement you claim to have...after all, Germany was a democracy and Hitler was a Christian...and it was YOUR ALLEGEDLY Christian President George W. Bush who created the current economic/military meltdown that you've supported for the last 8 years, now there's a good reason to stone someone...YOU PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT ARE GETTING THE ECONOMIC SCREWING YOU DESERVE AND IMPEACHED Bill Clinton for...HOPE YOU ENJOY IT! LOLOLOLOL!

Thanks for reminding us that the people who would quote the Bible to oppress gay people are slectively choosing which verses to take take literally. The real problem in the US is that we've tolerated a culture of religion and religious leaders who are completely ignorant of the history of the Bible and theology as a broad discipline. Anyone in this country can claim to "speak the word of God" and ignorant people will listen. Weak-minded and spiteful people love it when people in positions of authority give them permission to be mean and hateful. All it takes is one or two ministers esposing hate or some doctrine of exclusion and suddenly you've got a crowd of sad lonely people following them to act out there own psycho-social pathologies.under the banner of religion. I find it amazing that so many Americans will describe a God who seems like an immature spiteful junior high schooler, rather than a divine presence.I think this says more about their own stunted development than anything about truth or divinity.

There are so many better choices than Rick Warren. Obama made a mistake. If there is one area of weakness that Obama seems to have it is identifying a religion or religious message that mirrors his call for unity and inclusiveness. Lord knows Reverend Wright certainly wasn't a great choice and Rick Warren is no better. I hope Obama can stay focused on the economy, energy independence, health care and other pressing issues. I don't think he exhibits very much wisdom in the realm of religion and faith.

I sympathize with the Gay community over equal rights issues like marriage. However, they can solve the legal problems such as common property and hospital visitation and medical decisions with civil remedies. When my long time girlfriend had cancer, we solved those issues with surrogate status and a will- there was another impediment to our legal marriage. Regarding Rick Warren, Obama is a Christian, and he needed to reach out to the Christian community to reward them for their support, and assuage others for the fear that the McCain campaign stirred with the phoney Muslim issue. So, lets give Barry a break, here. While I agree Gay Rights is a civil rights issue, I am sure that its time will come eventually. I'm not suggesting they should wait 250 years- but this is a relatively new issue for older voters. I'm sure that with the passing of the older generation of voters, all will be made right. Younger people don't have the fear of Gays the last generation has. Patience, folks, patience. In the mean time,
