AS EVERYONE WHO READS THE BIBLE KNOWS GAYS ARE A STENCH IN THE NOSTROLS OF GOD AND WILL BURN IN HELL
Oh so are you!
Mr. Crain is an appeaser. In all of human history, when has appeasement resulted in anything other than the destruction of the appeasers?
Excellent observation and completely spot on!
I am so glad that he picked Rick Waren for the job! I am a Christian. I don't believe in changing the traditional defintiion of marriage to include homosexuals or any other combinations other than a man and a women. I do believe in civil unions and marriage between to people who love and care about each other and want to celebrate that in a ceremony that is not defined under law. i don't believe in hate, bigotry, or intolerance. But I also don't believe in labeling others as such when their beliefs run contrary to your own. The homosexual community seels like a bunch of spoiled children to me--as long as they get what they want and you agree with them you are OK--disagree with them and they cry and throw a temper tantrum. Let's not forget that Rick Warren probably represents the traditional views of about 50 to 60% of the American population. Gays are perhaps at best 5 to 8%. Oh sorry, forgot this was a democracy! Get over it gays of America! He's saying a prayer--that's it! I know you can't have your way, so sorry. Live your lives in peace and quit telling other people how to think. I have gay neighbors, we get along fine. I stay out of their business and they stay out of mine.
I'm a Christian and I believe in the word of God as the definitive truth. Sexual Immorality is applied to all men (and women).
Are LGBT people evil? Of course not! They are no different from a heterosexual man who chooses to sleep around with different women. Are they both living a sinful lifestyle? Yes! Everyone has their point of view. So lets see it from Gods view point?
Romans 1:18-32
God's Wrath Against Mankind
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities???his eternal power and divine nature???have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator???who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Waht comes natural to you may not come natural to others. everyone has their own gifts. so if the heterosexually life style is natural to you, it does not come natural to me. just as if some are left handed and other are right handed. the verses you are quoting were directed to the roman church. if you look at what was going on when paul wrote the letters to the roman church. because of the rullers of rome the people were turning against their nature to apease their ruller in exchange for power. it was not uncommon for roman senators to have a male prostitute to show their rulle that they shared his lust. so paul was simply telling the roman church not to turn against who they are to apease anyone.
Aye, Crain speaks truth regarding the "exlusionary" unity of Renna and her ilk. I did not support Obama in the election (I attend the Church founded by Jerry Falwell, with whom Renna seems not to completely agree)- but I've been cautiously optimistic about some of Obama's statements and Cabinet picks. Regardless of my vote, he will be my President, and I pray he continues his Cabinet (and judicial) appointments with the fortitude he's shown so far -- I'm as excited as Renna is disappointed that Obama's not become a puppet of the leftist fringe. Let us all remain in prayer for his wisdom as he leads (James 1:5).
Yes but, you people have had 8 years of having YOUR puppet of the Right, George W. Bush - who is by the way is irresponsibly leaving an economic and military disaster behind him for Obama and the rest of us to deal with...So if Obama were to unite behind the liberal left if would merely be the pendulum naturally swinging back to the left.
You people have had your chance and YOUR president screwed it up. Like Bill Clinton before him, Barak Obama will have to clean up yet another economic/military mess left behind by yet another member of the Bush family.
Chris Crain: "But he (Rick Warren) was not .equatin" gay marriage with incest and polygamy."
Rick Warren: "I???m opposed to having a brother and sister be together and call that marriage. I???m opposed to an older guy marrying a child and calling that a marriage." (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZMf9mPB_nE)
If you are going to argue something, Mr. Crain, at least have the facts.
Quietplease:
Actually, the Bible was written by men who were inspired by God. It tells the incredible story of God's love for His creation and His plan of reconciliation for those who trust in Him. By your comments I'm guessing that you might be a disciple of Christpher Hitchens or Sam Harris, but I happen to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and the Bible is my guidebook, or compass, for life. You may choose not to believe it because of perceived intellectual or emotional reasons, but I happen to have an intellectually satisfying faith. The Bible is my authority and I trust in what it says. Whether you trust in your own faulty reasoning or that of Hitchen's or Harris, I'm sorry that you don't have such an anchor for life.
RationalOregon:
Without God you have no absolute source of morality. Incidentally, "Treat everyone fairly" is a concept found in the Bible. If you happen to believe in "treat everyone fairly" as being a part of your unwritten moral code then you might just want to tip your hat to the God who put it there for you. You may also ponder how it could exist there without God if you are the product of evolved primordial ooze. Funny thing!
Bareau:
Marriage is God ordained and is the basic building block of society from the beginning. Therefore, faith has everything to do with a marriage license. That is if you value the continuation of civilization.
Also let's read Mathew 7: 13- 29
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
SeanL--the 1 commandment you referred to only prohibited adultery, not polygamy or polyandry. That intercourse with one's wives if one is a male, or husbands if one is a female, is not intercourse outside of marriage, and thus not adultery
Harleyishere suggest that we Bible thumpers;) should read Mathew 7: 1-11 Good point!
Matthew 7
Judging Others
1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
6"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
Ask, Seek, Knock
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
As a straight person who doesn't believe any minority should be the target of discrimination, I am strongly opposed to the selection of Rick Warren. He is a horrible role model for the children in my family and I have already told them that the TV will be off during his presentation. Rick Warren is ignorant of the true scientific data surrounding the creation of homosexual individuals. Rick Warren lets his own personal preferences get in the way of true loving, non-judgmental Christianity. Where is the "Ye who is without sin, may cast the first stone? " What happened to treat thy neighbor as thy self?" Unfortunately, there are so many people in the U.S. that want their personal preferences to stand in the place of Christianity, that they have flocked to Rick Warren and made him a "Christian" leader. I don't want my children to see the Christian religion trashed, just as good Islamic people don't want to see their religion trashed by terrorists.
Furthermore, homosexuals are the currently targeted minority group when it comes to discrimination and to select someone who is willing to participate in targeting homosexuals, when there is so much pain within that community, is an extremely poor choice on Obama's part. People who are discriminatory in nature don't care who society selects as the targeted group, they only care that there is a group subject to their bashing. Spin a wheel on the discrimination game board and it can land on almost any group -Jews, blacks, women, immigrants, gays. Obama's goal should not be inclusion of discriminatory people who advocate exclusion of others, but of true inclusion. He should select people who are inclusive of all people.
Finally, the United States constitution guarantees the equal treatment of homosexual people. Homosexuals can not be denied rights under the constitution, nor can they be treated "separate, but equal" under the constitution. Either every heterosexual and homosexual couple gets married, or every couple is entitled to a civil union. Society can pick the terminology, but it must be the same terminology for all couples. To allow someone to speak at an important government function - an inauguration - who thinks he can trample the constitution just because of his belief system should be of great concern to Americans.
If Obama really wanted a conservative to participate in his inauguration, he should have selected someone who dedicates his or her life work to advocating other conservative positions such as a strong defense or a small government, not discrimination of minority groups.
I agree with you on your discrimination comments.
"If Obama really wanted a conservative to participate in his inauguration, he should have selected someone who dedicates his or her life work to advocating other conservative positions such as a strong defense or a small government, not discrimination of minority groups."
There is no one to choose who wouldn't have raised complaints, but what I don't want at the innauguration is a conservative religious leader instructing us all on defense matters.
People! Obama clearly said during his campaign that he opposed gay marriage and that he is a Christian. Why are you all so surprised and insulted? Can't the man choose a pastor for this job and just be done with it. Wow. Like your reply 40YearR.
Religion has no business being involved in a marriage license
OH MY, THE GAY COMMUNITY IS MORE INTOLERANT THAN CHRISTIAN-EVANGELICALS! (AN INDEPENDENT VIEW)
I have witness time and again the intolerance of Christian-Evangelicals and the Republican Party they support. And nothing is more annoying than self-righteous Christian-Evangelicals and the blatant cases of hypocrisy they belligerently try to explain away.
ONE RECENT EXAMPLE OF CHRISTIAN-EVANGELICAL HYPOCRISY
The Christian-Evangelicals slammed Britney Spears' mother for allowing her other unmarried teenage daughter Jamie Lynn Spears to get knocked up. However the hypocritical Christian-Evangelicals took the opposite approach with self-righteous Sarah Palin and her unmarried teenage daughter Bristol Palin when she got knocked up by the son of a 'Drug Pushing Wasilla Hillbilly'. The Christian Community and the Republican Party raced to the side of both Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter to spin the issue around the fact that Bristol Palin did a good thing by not to aborting the child. HELLOOOO!!! Jamie Lynn Spears did not abort her child, but that didn't stop the Evangelicals from tearing into the Spears pregnancy.
HAS GAY COMMUNITY GONE BELLIGERENT?
But the level of intolerance by the Gay Community for Rick Warren's Invocation invitation at the Obama/Biden Inauguration has 'stunned me' and my friends. We have examined this thing and turned it inside out. And no matter how you cut it the level of intolerance by the Gay Community has surpassed traditional levels of Republican and Evangelical intolerance so much so the Gay Community has become downright cantankerous. I'm not sure if the Gay Community has noticed, but the good will Independents have for Gay causes is currently under a stress test.
EVANGELICALS HAVE NOT SCREAMED ABOUT REV. LOWERY
Today the Republican Party and Christian-Evangelicals are bitterly licking their wounds and disoriented from their recent loses. But through all their frustration with the Obama-Biden win, the Christian-Evangelicals have NOT castigated PE-Obama for his choice of 'gay marriage advocate' Rev. Joseph Lowery for the Benediction. How ironic.
THIS IS AN OBAMA/BIDEN CELEBRATION, NOT A GAY CELEBRATION
Maybe the Christian-Evangelicals have not freaked over the Rev. Lowery pick is because they recognize something the Gay Community has not acknowledged. And that is this is Obama's Inauguration. This is not a Gay Community Inauguration. Because this is Obama & Biden's party, they should be allowed to include who ever they want to their party. So the Gay Community need to take a chill pill and stop telling other people what minister they can invite to their own party.
I really enjoyed your comments. I do disagree with the evangelicals and Jamie Lynn vs Bristol teen pregnancies. I think most concervatives would prefer that neither girl became pregnant. The reason being it is hard to be in that situaltion, it would be preferable for children to be born to couples who are married and ready to be parents. I don't feel that all conservatives think that because they hold these views that they believe no sin or disappointment will come into their life. I think the major issue with Bristol Palin was the really mean spirited backlash by liberals and that she is a young girl and it was wrong to treat her that way, not that one was a better teen mother. I feel like the liberals that were attacking the Palins seemed to take the stance that conservatives think they are immune from things like teen preganancy and are better than liberals because of their beliefs. That is really a gross assumption. As a conservative, I agree that it is best that children are brought up in a two-parent stable household where the couple is financially able to care for their child(ren), I also am aware that it does not always work out that way and you do the best you can. I don't judge someone as unworthy due to a circumstance like teen pregnancy, regardless of their parent's political views. I felt that liberals, in that case, were saying that. It is offensive .
The bible was written by backward, ignorant men who believed in slavery, racism, hatred and used religion as an excuse for their stupid practices. Religion poisons everything it touches. And you people who constantly use the bible as their answer for everything are just as ignorant.
Here here...well said
Quietplease: As a christian I have one question. Have you read the Bible ( old and new)?
freedomrocks wrote; Hello, the people of California spoke on Prop 8. It is an abuse of our election process to try to repeal it. It seems like too many minorities are willing to do anything to get their way. Like other instances where they will keep recounting the "votes" until they get their way. I am sad for our rights as Americans. It is ok to oppose gay marriage. Get over it!
The only way black people were given any semblance of equality in this country was by judicial decree. Blacks and whites were LEGALLY DENIED MARRIAGE until 1967. And then the "definition of marriage" was changed. Got it? It's about equal rights for all, and equal rights should not be granted by a SLIGHT majority for the rest of the populace.
Prop 8 was an appeal you idiot. So by your own logic we should enjoy our Constitutional rights as upheld by the Supreme Court just as you do. Boy you're disgusting....
If I have learned one thing the last couple of days, its that people are different and the lliklihood that someone will think exactly as you do, is nearly impossible.
Comparing racial equality to sexual deviant equaliy is like comparing apples to turds
To "QuietPlease"---Go ahead and try to start civilization from scratch and let us know how you begin.
Is it really a supprise that Oboma picked Warren to speak (pray), Obama him slef does not beleave that gays should have the right to marry. He belives that civil unions with the rights of married people will surfice. i whished Obama would have chosen wisley, sadly i think he chose with his convections. does he really support the gay community I think not.
i have been christian as long as i can rember and it pastor and christian like Warren that have caused me to loose my faith. on this matter, isn't it funny that the people who do not claim to be christians are themselves more christ like. growing up i never knew anyone who was gay and i was raised in a christian home so being gay is not a learned behavior, then you have to be born that way and if that is the case it does not stand to reason that god would condem gays to hell. after all God does not make mistakes.
being gay is such a small part of my life and if all the so called christians are sinners as well then they will be there beside me in hell. but that is not the case because it is not up to you or me to choose who will go to heaven it is Gods. it is a good thing because there will be a lot of good people left out of the promis of his glory. so if God can forgive your sin why can't he forgive mine.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL WITH LOVE AND TOLERANCE I HOPE I SEE YOU ALL IN HEAVEN
Funny thing: those who object to X or Y or Z (action / belief /differing religion), can't seem to agree on exactly what "god" says or means with his words and laws; can't seem to agree on what is and isn't a sin...and yet they expect everyone else to agree with their particular religious interpretations and follow "their god's" laws. This is funny because if I don't like what one religion says I can just go pick one that I do like...yet the opposite side of most arguments, the rational side, usually amounts to "treat everyone fairly," and there is no way to really misinterpret that. Umpteenmillion religions on one side...and fair treatment on the other. Funny thing.
